@@jacopozenomoscardo1604 - I get what you’re saying, especially compared to a modern McLaren for instance, but I think it’s important to contextualize design in its time. I couldn’t decide if the weird orange car that had the round headlights was meant to show advanced or English design, but I thought it was hideous. I’d think many cars if the vintage of the R32 are pretty hideous and it seemed almost like “boring” was something to aspire to back then.

Some manufacturers started to realize this and now they are creating modern style classic designs like new 400z new Lamborghini Countach.

14:55 - it's sort of fun that back in 1995 Clarkson was criticising Japan's ability to design aesthetically pleasing cars - I look back at the nineties now, and of the cars released that decade that I still find beautiful to this day, I think almost every single one of them is Japanese. Eg. the Mark IV Supra, RX-7, S2000, etc. The style language the Japanese were using in their car design in the nineties was exquisite: soft lines and curves, compact, beautiful silhouettes, perfectly proportioned and minimalist; no fussy details. The Skyline is an exception really, because it's so boxy and conventional looking...yet it still has a certain something that other western cars of a similar silhouette didn't have. A kind of aggressiveness, and sleekness. It's a shame that the new, 21st century revamps of Japanese icons have tended to be either dull or hideous.

Trust me that phrase is completely B.S, i owned Bimmer E93 335 10years ago, tons of issues, trade it in for a C400, luxury but boring to drive. Now i own a Lexus RX350 and a R34 skyline GTt coupe, never been happier, wont look back at those European cars anymore.

Why, or perhaps how is it even possible we are not enjoying Sir Jeremy. He must have turned it down. What this man has done for Britain and British culture……and there is of course a pounds and pence element to this…..cannot be underestimated. Demurred or not, God bless him for so many years of brilliant entertainment. Edit…. He’s not dead, by the way.
