With the help of Revolutions Per Minute records, I’m finally ready for my debut release. Thanks to a collaboration with Montreal-based electronic producer BUFFLO, a simple piano arrangement turns into the hard-hitting anthem that this iconic chant melody deserves. This track is all about lateral love -- respecting our Indigeneity and helping each other; so let’s get to it.
Produced by: BUFFLO
Mixed & Mastered by: Dan Weston
Artwork: Jordan Bennett
This could not be possible without the support of;
George Paul, Maggie Paul, Melody McKiver, Devon Bate, Dan Weston, Sierra Noble, Ian Gibbons, Justin Wright, Kate Maloney, Taylor Miltz, Lucas Blekeberg, Pompey
translation team: Mildred Paul, Carol Scott, Donald Moulton, Mary Moulton, Jeanette Brewer, Raymond Nicholas, Marina Moulton, Ron Tremblay, Roseanne Clark and Kyle McAurelle

2021 and I'm just now coming across this song from a video about the 215 indigenous kids who were found in mass graves in Canada in the residential schools. This is powerful and my heart goes out to these kids even though they are no longer with us. 🧡✊🏽

This song touches touches me deep down in my soul. I was in the wilderness mountian biking / camping on a lake just after sunset i was listening to this song / anthem for the first x, all of a sudden a massive swarm of may flies from a dead tree swarmed out and upward to the night sky. To this powerful/soulful song that Jeremy sings so eloquently. Thanks Jeremy, top knotch!..; )

Okay, literally, anyone who sees this, go read "The Inconvenient Indian" by Thomas King. It's chilling so far, and I'm only 40% of the way through, and NO, that title is not meant to be literal. He's being ironic. Very biting sense of non-humour, because the things he describes are...oh my Gods. There's a part where he says that, back in the day, Canadians would boast to Americans that no mass slaughter of Indigenous people had ever yet taken place in Canada...unless you count...and here he lists six different massacres that took place in British Columbia, but goes on to say that, no, none of them count as "Canadian", because they all took place while British Columbia (it's our westernmost province) was not yet part of Canada, so early to mid 1800's. I imagine he'll talk about residential "schools", but what brought this song to mind is him discussing the Mi'kmaq being, as the government of the time so put it, "relocated", and I do believe this song is in Mi'kmaq. He ALSO talks a bit about Pierre Trudeau. Wonder what that f*cker's spineless son is up to right now on what King calls the "Indian issue". I don't like Trudeau. I don't like yes-men. SHIT this book makes me mad. I assume that's the point, though. It's Juvenalian satire of a sort.

Looking forward to seeing Jeremy perform live at St. Paul's Centre in Orillia on Friday, June 8th. The great acoustics at the Centre will make this event unforgettable experience. There will be a welcome to the territory by Chief Rodney Noganosh. Come and support indinginous language usage - currently Wolastoqey is only spoken by 100 speakers!

I have a student who is wondering about the inclusion of non-traditional instruments in this arrangements. I would like to have a more accurate conversation with the student about it. Would anyone be able to chime in about using only traditional percussion vs. including other instruments?

Whoever uploaded this spelled "Honour" the American way. Which is to say, I hope it wasn't Jeremy himself who did, because we're both Canadian, and he should know better, LOL. Other than that, no complaints. I like to blast this in the morning to wake myself up .Jeremy Dutcher and coffee. Good combo.

Indeed, George and I have a special agreement with each other regarding this song. He shares in any profits of this music. (streams, radio plays, synchs etc) this is a very important point you raise about the nature of indigenous music in the public sphere though, Glenn. Woliwon!
