I had not heard of this artist until now. He sounds very good. I'm trying to reconcile and understand part of my heritage. My grandfather was Malecite in part...when I was born, he took a good look at me and said: "You can't hide the truth from god." or in French:"On peut pas cacher la vérité à dieu." Rest in peace Pepe.

I have always loved this song since hearing it as a gift from some Mi'kmaw brothers and sisters traveling through Tennessee sang it as to honor our Ayuni Grandma Dunn for hosting a sweat and feast for them.

Brings me tears... how beautiful it is to listen to revitalizing languages. I heard of you through an Elder at a work meeting here at UBC. I hope to relay this song in future meetings.

Great song that immediately enticed me to get my base and medium hand drums out to add my deep, heartfelt, and soulful accompaniment to the powerful conviction, strength and tenor of Jeremy’s voice and mix of a vibrant accent of a piano enabling me to close my eyes and join in with my own indigenous expressions of rhythms, whatever, whenever, and wherever they may allow me to just-be and to radiate my nature in absolute awe. Thank you to my friend Arlene for the share.

I remember back in 1991 when George Paul taught this song he wrote to me and several others over the course of a few days. This of course was the beginning of the Eastern Eagle Singers drum group. Always remember that time.

Wow, in the only sweat lodge I ever was in, I learned that song, the one with the way a ways. I can still sing it now, nearly 30 years later. The elder told us never to sing it to others, that it was only to be sung in a sweat.
@jeannietaylor7560

I'm sorry you were given information that isn't the way. The creator of this song wants it sung far and wide. He never once said that it was only to be heard in sweatlodge. The original songwriter goes far and wide to sing it loud and proud. He encourages all people wanting to connect to sing this with their every heart's desire. This is the truth because I heard it straight from his mouth to my ears. Sing it loud and sing it proud. Not to diminish in any way what the lodge-keeper was trying to convey, he was doing all he could to protect the sacredness of this song. It's the Honour song of the Mikmaq people but since has been adopted from nation to nation so that we can all heal and live with Honour. I understand the protection mode. He respects is so much as should everyone.
