Bubba's World w/ James Stewart

The King of Supercross comes in to the Bubba's World Studio! He's been a legend to anyone a fan of the sport, brought main stream sponsors in back in the late 90's, created a new style of racing and dominated the field for years with his 72 SX wins putting him 1st all time!
We break down what it was like racing during that era, seeing RC come in and accepting that Jeremy's time of dominance may be over, how hard it was to come to terms with it, the sport now and more!
Thanks Jeremy for joining us!

Great interview. Just think if james could have been this structured and disciplined when he was racing he would more than likely have broken every record, set new ones and they probably would have never been broken.

98' Minneapolis, McGrath dominates. After the race his pit area was mobbed by crazy fans, me being one of them. He and Button took their time with everybody, taking pics, signing stuff, and making sure all the fans were takin care of. Like no big deal. They weren't in a hurry to catch a flight or something. The KING!

Jeremy is authentic. I was there at Gatorback for 3 day’s camping in a tent right outside the track when he won his first outdoor motorcross National. I was the last guy in line when he was signing autographs. He stayed till the end after everyone had left and signed my Metallica hat. He was my first autograph from the dirt bike racing scene. I have since taken my son to the pits at Daytona and my son and I have got pics with Jeremy, Emig, Bradshaw , Craig, a 125’s riding Carmichael and many more. The pits were so laid back then.

McGrath and Carmichael are the reason I really got into Dirt Bikes... I happen to know someone that worked for the SX promotors in the 90's. For a several years we were able to get into the Pontiac Silver Dome while they were building the tracks... We got pit passes and had that opportunity to meet Jeremy, he was the sequential pro SX rider. He took the time to talk with us... he knew how important the fans are to the sport. Jeremy appreciated those of us that were hacks that rode local dirt and trails. Just like Arnold Palmer. Palmer was approachable, talked to his fans loved to know the hackers were playing on the local Muni course

Yamaha did Jeremy dirty. I didn't know all that. I'm a Yamaha guy, and a big reason for that was Jeremy McGrath in his prime. Man that sucks. But I'm glad Honda gave him the last few years that he needed to gain some closure on his career. The King of Supercross and the Fastest Man on the Planet together just shooting the shit. It's beyond entertaining. I feel blessed just to witness the greatness of this sport. So cool that you guys can look back and laugh on any past drama or beef. I love that. It's a learning lesson for us all. It's shows growth and maturity and it's part of the evolution of this sport. The greatest sport on earth, imo. You guys are living legends. MC, RC, RV, Bubba... you guys have had the biggest impact and influence on the sport because you were the ones that pushed racing to new levels right when when it mattered the most, when everything else was evolving with it... the technology, the performance, the gear, the tracks, the money that went into programs for testing and training, and then at the same time the sport was growing with all the media hype and corporate sponsors. It was all perfectly Divine Timing. When the sport went corporate, maybe it wasn't so fun for the athletes because it became more serious about championships, bragging rights, marketing, selling bikes, and all the money on the line... but it sure as hell made it fun for the fans. And that's what it's all about. You guys wouldn't be famously decorated and admired athletes with illustrious careers if you didn't have devoted fans. Of course you know that. Which is why we love it when you guys give back and stay relevant. You guys pushed the sport to new levels in every way; progression, style, culture, domination, etc. You guys made the sport even more badass, and that's why I've always looked up to you. You guys are special, and you've definitely inspired me in my life, so God bless you.

MC was always my hero. He was the best when I started riding, but even more than that, he was just cool, the guy. I always felt like he was just a cool guy who loved racing. I used to have dreams where I would meet him out riding and we would just go ride together, like he was just one of the guys. I'll never forget though, 2000, Pontiac 1 Supercross. I waited in line forever to get an autograph, finally got to the front of the line and got my autograph. I asked Jeremy if my gf could get a picture of us. His little PR guy or whoever came over and was like no pictures. Jeremy just looked at him and said ya sure thing. That photo is one of my greatest memories. Me and the King, and his little PR guy in the background looking pissed, lol.... Always there for his fans, and thats why we were his fans...

James is telling the truth -- he REALLY knows Jeremy's career!!! I remember seeing James at an Anaheim supercross in the pits one year -- signing autographs, taking pictures, and shaking hands. Every so often, he would slyly move his left hand across his body to the other side so a family member in a Yoshimura Suzuki jacket standing behind him could fulfill his duty -- administering a squirt of hand sanitizer while James continued smiling to the fans and in preparation for more interaction!

totally different experience than what i had with mcgrath when i was a kid growing up riding. i remember running into him, ryno, and metz out in the hills filming for steel roots. me and my buddies were so star struck to see mcgrath just out free riding in the hills so we naturally wanted to talk to him. he had just signed with suzuki for the 97 season so it was cool to see him on his new bike. however, once we got up the nerve to talk to him and tried to say "hi" his only response to us was "i don't have time for this, can't you see i'm f*ckin working?". i will never forget that and even now i'm still not a fan. he puts on a show and that's why they called him "showtime".
