Nathan C milbury is an idiot but i agree with him here. now if ur talking about who u rather watch? u have the right to ur own opinion but if u were the GM and have to chose between those 2 u gotta chose crosby. theres a reason why other players/coaches vote for crosby as no1 player year after year. is it unfair to judge a player by cups won? of course but then again thats life. u have to partly be judged by that factor as the ultimate goal of a franchise is to win the cups. thats what hockey is all about. with the partity nowadays and when a player is the captain taking the biggest part of the cap u are supposed to be the biggest factor in ur teams results. and the reason why a guy like crosby is considered better is because he makes his teamates better, he plays more responsibly. u would say the same if we judged by cups if ovechkin did win 2 cup and crosby none. funny how i know ur a pro-ovechkin based or ur comment. it has more to do with it

I don't think Milbury showed a bias here, they asked him who could compare to Ovechkin, and he said Crosby. Statistically, that's true. I also think he defended his choice quite well, which Roenick as much as condeded. Whatever you think of Milbury, I think it's the original poster who's showing a bias here. And by the way, Milbury's choice is looking pretty good tonight, after Crosby scored the goal that gave Canada the gold, isn't it?

Ovechkin is a one trick pony, not even close to captain material. At least Crosby plays offense, defense ans participates on the penalty kill. Ovechkin only plays with one side of the ice. And for the record I don't like either player much.

weree2 First off genius Crosby played in almost as many games during the 2013-14 reg season, Olympics, and playoffs - around 100 total- as he did from the 2010-11 season through the 2013 season.. So I guess he's supposed to be super human huh? Surely he couldn't have been tired during this past post-season considering his anemic coach's only in game adjustment is to double shift him. Lets also not forget that Crosby skated most of that 1st series with Stempniak and Gibbons on his wing. Ya I know Crosby isn't that great at offense yet he's won 2 Art Ross, 2 Hart - maybe 2, 1 for sure-, 1 Rocket Richard, and was the only player during the 2013-14 season to put up 100 points.. Don't be dumb kid!!! BTW it's Toews not Toewes...

I hate when anyone compares stanley cup wins in hockey. It isnt the same as basketball where their is more individual plays . & how one players in basketball can change your team from dead last to number 1. No, hockey is much more a team with depth & works hard. its impossible to compare stanley cup wins between players.

cityofchamps66 Well ofcourse! Mostly because his work ethic. Right? That is why he is the best. But If ovi, put in as much work & had as much passion he could be better than crosby in my personally opinion. Ovi is stronger faster, & had a better shot. If he was as decicated as crosby , he could be a better player. Crosby is a better playmaker than ovi, but ovi can be a much better goal scorer.

@brodypurcell878810 жыл бұрын
cityofchamps66 It isnt really ifs or buts. Ovi has proved many times he is an elite player. He has done what sidney has done, the problem is his mind set. Ovi has no passion. Dont get me wrong crosby is a great player, but why does everyone pick him over ovi? Cause of Sid's work ethic. If you were to go back 5 years. When ovi had passion, He was the best player in the NHL at the time. It is hard to choose one or the other. Because crosby has a good mind set. But seeing what ovi has done, & can do whenever he feels like it. Its insane, If he gets his spark back . Id pick him over Crosby .
@bobwilson51628 жыл бұрын
+Jimmy Stewson he's not gonna get his spark back he's past his prime and in true Ovie fashion they are going out in the 2nd round. It's not impossible to compare Stanley cup wins when we are talking about "elite" players. Their one purpose on the team is to lead their team to the cup. Ovie cannot perform under that pressure. He is one dimensional and scores PP goals all season to get to 50 with very few assists. He is and remains a marketing fan boy produced by the Washington management. I don't care how many goals he scores. There's apparently way more to the game which everyone can agree to.

Are you sure about that? In the 08-09 season the Capitals had a better overall record at the end of the season. If the team around Crosby looked better it's because Crosby makes everyone around them a better player. Don't get me wrong Ovechkin is a top player but he's not the type of playmaker that Crosby is. You say it's obvious that they were better simply because they played better in the playoffs. Any hockey fan knows the playoffs are a different breed.

Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup and Canada won the gold medal. If we switched Crosby to team Russia and Ovechkin to Pittsburgh nobody knows who would perform better. Would Pittsburgh still win the cup? Would Washington? Realistically all we can do is evaluate their skill-set's and right now Crosby is the better two-way player and point-getter while Ovechkin is superior at playing with physicality and scoring goals. As far as who I would want on my team? Well that would depend on my roster and system more than anything.

Both of'em are amazing players, great talents. But they are different - it's evident, isn't it. As a Russian I am a fan of Ovechkin - but this doesn't mean I underestimate Crosby. BosoxnationI972 i think you have a little bit wrong there. in no way did "boudreau's system stress team defense" it was almost the exact opposite! boudreau was successful because he let all of the Offensive talent just run wild. i love ovechkin (look at my profile pic) but i have to agree that he doesn't have leadership qualities and isn't the type of player to build a team around. i sees him as more comparable to kane because he is a one dimensional bag of tricks winger which look great on the highlight reel. i think crosby is more like toews because of work ethic etc... another thing about leadership, its probably really really difficult to be a leader on a team when you don't even speak the native language of that country. its similar to crosby trying to be a leader in the KHL, language barrier.

James cage ... your totally right on this one..... Pelton needs to learn the game before commenting.... any one who played competitively knows if a team has two number one centers the opposing team can only shut down one of them with their best defensive unit leaving the other #1 center to go out against lesser defenders....Therefore if you shut down Crosby s line them malkins line will score and if you shut down malkins line then Crosby s line will score..teams often divide up their best shutdown guys from one until to 2 units when playing pitsburg. weakening the opponents defense and allowing them to get more points then without each other ps they do play together on the pp

It's impossible at this point to pretend Ovechkin is a better player. Before you could look at regular season stats and have something to argue with, but as of now it's not even close. People allow their personal feelings about Milbury to cloud their opinion of what he says. His point about Ovechkin being more fun to watch, but Crosby being a better leader is spot on, and has since been confirmed by what's been happening in Washington since then. Ovechkin's numbers are down steadily. Not only did he go from 109 points to just 65, but he went from a +45 Plus/Minus rating to a -8! This validates Milbury's point that Ovie is treating hockey like it's a day at the beach.

Nothing against Crosby, but other teams are able to stick their best checkers out against Ovechkin (and Backstrom) in a single shift. When they face Pittsburgh, they now have to use two sets of checkers to cover Malkin and Neal. Point being, Ovechkin is easier to stick to when checking because he's their only true scoring threat. Pittsburgh has 3 players that can get 40+ goals.

Who's better Crosby or Ovechkin: Its really up to you to decide who is better Alex Ovechkin: 1.335 PPG Sidney Crosby: 1.363 PPG Very close PPG, but Ovechkin you can argue has more goals than Sidney, after all, a puck can bounce off you, be picked up, be dangled thru the whole opposition, and be scored and you'd still get a point for an assist. Saw Ovi on Tuesday, and man! was his style of play something to watch even if he was playin against Latvia. Could be a big year for Ovi, Gold and a Stanley Cup. Like in the NBA, Wade and James, sure Wade got the ring but James is a guy that can get you outta your seat.

Too many concussions for Ronieck there. Ovi continues to do squat in the NHL. He was playing on a third line for crying out loud. I think the Caps should trade Ovi while they can still get something for him. Make Backstrom the leader of the franchise.

It's porterhouse steak versus filet mignon. It's just a matter of taste. Ovechkin IS more exciting, but Sid has one cup. WTF? They're both great. The NHL is loving this controversy. If you are into this, you have to watch "Sid the kid vs Alexander the great" - very interesting. A PR man's dream.

Right on JR, right as always! And we all know how well the Olympics turned out for Ovie and how bad it was for Crosby. The entire Russian delegation left Canada that night back to Russia and vowed to "never let Russia be humiliated like that again". I'm sure that was a fun meeting for Ovie!

? Crosby had the golden goal lol

Well Caps usually just have one superstar on their team whereas Pburgh has atleast 2 when they grab the cups, even Lemioux wouldn't have taken two without Jagr, Francis, Trottier, Coffey and Murphy, neither would Crosby without Malkin, Gonchar and Veterans like Sykora and Guerin. Caps have had only Ovechkin and Bondra as Superstars with a decent passer like Backstrom and Oates but that's about it.

@twistedschism716 just because he doesn't throw massive hits doesn't mean he doesn't contribute besides offence. He has established himself as a good centreman who is defensively responsible and can block shots and clear goals around his own net, as well as be strong on the puck and make smart decisions with it. Our opinion of dominant differs in what is important to the team.

When you are the team leader, no matter what sport you play in, you will get more criticism than players with smaller roles. Lebron James was probably the most vilified player in all of sports until he finally won an NBA title. Like Ovie, he was considered to be one of the top 2 players in the game, but people questioned his ability to finish and always said that he would never have Kobe's work ethic. Lebron went out and PROVED the critics wrong this season. Ovie did not! See the difference?

I just don't see Ovechkin and Crosby as the same type of player. They are both great talents and yes, as a die hard caps fan, I am hoping that Ovie brings us our first ever cup. Ovie and Rick Nash are probably a better comparison. Big and strong, hard hitting but skilled to the teeth.

Sidney Crosby scored the game-winning overtime goal in the gold medal game at the Olympics, that's something.

Yeah, but still Canada has a star team.

It's not a non-point at all. Championships help define players leadership qualities. If you want to compare goals and assists, Ovechkin is older, so obviously he will have more. But Crosby averages more points per game than Ovie, and Sid is the better player.

You realize that if Crosby didn't have his injury problems, he would have embarrassed Ovie. Oh and on the cup thing, you do realize the caps haven't made it past the 2nd round since 1998. What the caps fans can't get through their heads is that it's Defense and good Goaltending that wins the cup, not Offense. They tried that in 2010 and look what happened. If they go in vs Rangers thinking Ovie will carry them to the cup, it's gonna be the same result. Oh I'm a red wings fan and Sid is better.

@bern1417 Wrong. Dupuis managed PPG of 0.39 and 0.47 in his first two seasons with PIT/Crosby. He's done better in BOTH 02-03 AND 03-04 with MIN, also tying his first total of 0.39 in 05-06 with MIN again. Kunitz, taking into account he only played 50 games, only managed PPG of 0.64. He smoked that number in his days with ANA in 06-07 with PPG of 0.74 and 08-09 with 0.65. I've done my homework. Clearly, you have not. Therefore, you shouldn't talk. Playing with Crosby makes no difference.

OV is a puck gunner! Crosby is one of the best 2 way players on the ice. Cups is more important than scoring leaders. Crosby gets the nod

I hate when TEAM championships are used when discussing the better INDIVIDUAL. Crosby is better all around, but he is also easier to replace than Ovechkin. To me, Ovechkin is better offensively and has a lot more charisma.

I don't know why everybody fights about whether Ovi or Sid is better because usually Ovi is better than Sid and then Sid is better than Ovi, it's an off and on thing
