Like how in baseball in extras - the inning begins with a runner on second...... sheesh

Luckily the only reasonable time to have implemented 3v3 OT or shootout has come and gone now that we're down from 24 teams playing and like 20 games in both locations per day. The chances of an early game affecting a later one is lower and lower with each concurrent round.

Shootouts allow poor teams to win without playing. Watch football (soccer) and teams can set out to defend from the kickoff rather than compete and still win. Portugal won the 2016 European championship with this mentality (among others). It's terrible for the sport and rewards low skilled but well drilled teams.
@thejoulesthief6841
@thejoulesthief6841 3 жыл бұрын
Football/soccer PK shootouts are kind of required.The limited substitutions don’t help that the guys on the pitch can’t rest and continue playing. And the area that needs to be covered is gigantic compared to hockey where end to end to play take huge distances of sprinting. Important games in football/soccer HAVE to end that way for those two reasons. Hockey playoffs should play OTs since there’s *at least* a little rest and shorter distances. And because it’s completely fun to watch.

Same here. It was funny until you learn what's actually happening and what the long term impact is - especially from getting back out there one shift later and getting knocked around even more. I don't have any sympathy for Milbury or any other old timer who gets aroused over injuries... 16 years old I took an elbow to the head that knocked me out cold. I sat on the bench and missed a couple shifts and then went right back out there. I was praised for it, for being tough and I felt proud of it. Knowing what we know now, that's no longer toughness, that's lunacy. If they're "a product of their time" then how come our attitudes can change? These dinosaurs they need to get the axe.

I 100% agree with you, however you have to look at NBCs point of view. Are they going to want to risk airing him again after all that outrage? People aren’t going to forget this (even though I think his comments were taken way too extreme by some people). This is a good time for maybe both sides to part ways rather than an actual firing. Both are under a lot of pressure right now with this situation (Milbury under more pressure obviously than NBC)

I grew up in a rural, farming area. Domestic violence was almost non-existent and if any man, or woman, was violent, they didn't get any support from the community and were soon gone. Were people born in the 1950's and before more 'forgiving'? I'm not so sure.

In that 5ot game, there were a few times my wife asked me if that commentator (Milbury) had just woken up during the match. Due to there were point where you'd hear him randomly make a confused startled noise, like a 'hwah?' just out of no where. He guessed he either fell asleep or was doing a wordsearch and got called out

As a NYR fan since the 1960's I've had my fill of Milbury. I doubt he incurred many C's, as he never did the heavy work from his 2nd pair D spot, did not drop the gloves when challenged but was quick to jump and pummel skill players, Europeans, and fans, for whom he used a shoe. BTW, he was also a lousy coach and GM. I'd not shed a tear over his final demise.

I remember him just going off on johansson on the bruins. no fucking reason either, just laying into him on mic every time he got the chance. johansson was having a solid game at the time as well and mikes sitting there talking about how slow, fat and blown out the guy is. That shit baffled me because of how well mojo played for the bruins and how much he seemed to be liked by the team to just hear someone being torn down to the foundation and shit on while playing well...

It’s idiotic the NHL puts Milbury on NBC not just NBCSN with the intention of “selling” the game. The NHL was playing with fire with this clown. Also, during the TB/CBJ overtime Gord Miller said Milbury was eating a steak dinner during play. I’m sure NBC loves that.

As someone who grew up in city that a junior hockey team (Belleville Bulls) I have heard plenty of rumors especially in high school of the female students and even some of the female teachers having sexual relationships with the players we called them "bull riders". It got to the point that it was obvious that something was going on when players of which some were not the most academically gifted were given "special treatment". I am not sure if the team ownership was given the schools money sort of like what goes on in NCAA football and basketball etc..

NBC will learn that controversy doesnt sell if people start complaining to their advertisers. Sadly the ratings cant drop as much as needed to use that as a hit as NBC is literally the only national coverage there for the playoffs and sportsnet needing to rebroadcast them during these playoffs.

I hit subscribe and clicked on the bell. Milbury must go, not just for a reprehensible comment, but based on the fact that previously he was arguably the worst G.M. in NHL history. NBC should have never have hired him. Now, if we can purge the old Islanders' Gorton's Fisherman logo from the NHL consciousness.

if he just left out "women", and just said that the bubble kept out the distrations.. he'd have been fine.. and I grew up watching him (swearing at him as his Bruins always seems to beat the Sabres (still do in fact)) and I remember that era... I remember getting concussed myself playing football in the early 80's and just getting up and going on... not like today as we know more now...still, the players of today would not have liked playing in the old times where if the leg is still attached, you play.. broken or not (exageration but you know what I mean)

The thing is it seems as though the NHL coverage in America is not taken as seriously (gets less ratings/coverage compared to the other major sports leagues) as compared to Canada. Therefore one can make the assumption that NBC doesn't take certain comments made by thier employees in this case former disgraced New York Islanders's HC/GM and former late 70's/early 80's Boston Bruin player turned HC Mike Milbury seriously. Let alone the quality of the coverage done by the network (night and day compared to NBA on TNT). I am still unsure of the "standards" set by NBC when JR got fired for what he said (he has since tried to sue NBC for wrongful dismissal and discrimination based on sexual orientation) yet Milbury has said plenty of things that would normally get anyone fired.

I completely agree with Milbury getting heat for the comments on injuries and penalties being ridiculous and, for lack of a better term, outdated. I'm not a fan of him myself, but now after changing how I see things, I'm not bothered enough to want him off the air - same applies to Pierre McGuire. I don't know entirely how to feel about the backlash for those recent comments. In this case you have some people who claim to be forward and progressive who just see what he says in one phrase and run with it, and you also have people who bring up similar comments from his past as proof that he won't change or be understanding. I'm not saying to not bring up what he's previously said, I'm just trying to understand and talk about the situation from this one specific comment. From what I've understood, because I'm now trying to assume the good intentions in all people, he was referring to the players not being distracted by outside circumstances to play their best and used women as an example. I laughed since I've seen it first hand, and you've brought up that it's everywhere in Juniors, Shannon, and you're right. From what I've seen, sometimes it can start as early as U16s. Point being there is that I see it too and understand what you're talking about. Now this is where I'm going to be tough on this generation's social progress, and I know it's not everyone, so if you know this is not you, then I'm not talking about you. I did not participate in the drinking, marijuana, and tinder dates that my teammates did, because I focused on improving my hockey skills, and I still have that focus. Why do I bring that up after saying I'll be tough on society? It was and is not worth my time to improve my skills AND snitch ALL my teammates for having fun and not bettering themselves at hockey. I let them be. That should be ok and over with, but watch some call me apart of the problem, which has happened. I don't want to be authoritative with people because I would hate for someone to control my life and my choices. Let people make their own choices, face consequences, and think on their own. People want to be left alone, especially if you assume the good in everyone. Like you said too Shannon, petitions do nothing. In this case, it's NBC's decision, and it doesn't matter if it was influenced by the outrage or not. This is why I'm not bothered by those recent comments, how he and guys like Pierre are on air, and with the Junior Hockey culture I've witnessed.
