I went to go see this movie with a group of friends that could only tell me it was about college students in a Cabin in the Woods and that it was a horror movie. I'd never even seen a trailer for the film so I had no idea that there were puppeteers or humor in the movie at all. I don't normally do that but let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised (surprised doesn't even come close) at what it turned out to be. I've never walked out of a movie with such a satisfied, giddy feeling accompanied by a sense of 'what did I just watch'. I now own it on Blu-Ray. I don't think I can recreate the experience I had in that theater unless I just stop watching movie trailers, which means this experience is destined to be a unique one for me.

Cabin in the Woods is the Galaxy Quest of horror movies. Meaning it's a genera bender. It's not the greatest movie, but I liked that the 5 teens were actual people before they were drugged to be their stereotypes.

Why does everyone think that if you don't like it you don't get it. No. You just don't like it. Not everyone is an idiot. You can understand the satire and not think it's fun or interesting, maybe you don't like that, maybe you just don't like horror films in general. I like the movie, that doesn't mean everyone else does, people expect different things from film.
@smurfk214410 жыл бұрын
That's the point with The Cabin The Woods. If you don't like horror movies in general, you will see it as an stupid movie, with a stupid story. The movie is based around the references to other horror movies and critiques to horror genre in general. If you are not passionate about those kind of stuff, you are loosing the point. It's like i would watch a random documentary about a subject that i don't know anything and i don't care too much about it either. It would be useless for me, but might be great for other people. Just if you take the main story, and you believe that the "creators" are some kind of gods, the movie just loose all it's point and seems silly.

Surprised there isn’t more in depth analysis of this movie on KZbin, maybe it’s just in the sweet spot of too new to be retro and too old to be relevant. I’m not sure if I liked this movie. I’d like to hear more analysis of it. The heavy use of CG near the end definitely hasn’t held up well… And I do feel like the movie would have been better if it either leaned into horror more or leaned further away from it. It’s in a weird spot where it’s not really a horror movie but has enough graphic content to put a lot of people off of it.

Most of the people don't really understand the purpose of this movie. The great thing about it is that it was not considered a parody when they advertised it and doesn't spoof other films thus has its own story. Well, people looked forward to watch a thrilling, logical and serious horror film. Horror films aren't logical. They lay down rules to break them for another reason to show even more blood. This movie played around with that on a very parodistic way even too subtle for people who take the genre way too serious to understand it. They get upset and confused so the movie did the trick and deserves a big thumb up!
@GideonGleeful9510 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's like Tropic Thunder in some respects. It's a genre parody, not a parody of a specific thing. Not that there's anything wrong with doing a parody of a specific thing, as long as you don't just make references to things and do nothing with them.

I am wondering if the movie this guy has seen is the same I saw. It was just awful, I truly believe the writers thought everything they wrote was pure gold, this kind of attitude is what makes it so pretentious. The movie has some twists I've never seen before, but this is only the case because every single twist is just stupid. It makes no sense, it is neither scary nor funny. It tries to make fun of horror cliches but failes so hard. There are quite a lot references to other movies... and every single one was one hundred times better than this crap. I've seen so many movies in my life and this movie still manages to be one of the worst 10 movies I've ever seen. I just wanted the movie to end I wanted everyone to die quickly, I wanted the director the writers and every single one involved in this movie to die. If you are one of these persons who liked this picture you should probably get checked for an brain tumor. this movie is a disgrace to a whole genre... DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. Well jeremyjahms has obviously no idea what storytelling is there are lots of movies which are insluting the intellect of the audience and he liked them. Don't get me wrong I like to watch movies which are "just" entertaining and not very intellectual if I'm in the right mood... If you decide to watch this movie anyway better get a lot of alcohol maybe that will help

I thought it was good, not great, though. The genre-parody (#spoiler) was nothing groundbreaking in the same way that I don't see Scream as groundbreaking. Good parody, but nothing epic to see here. And there was a degree of (intentional) cheese in this film that I found detracted from even the comedic elements. Truth or dare? Dare. BoyFrost Huh. I actually did not see it that way. At all. But I still loved the hell out of this movie! It was an *incredibly fun* movie experience and definitely deserves the Awesometacular title. It's perfect.

This movie was terrible. Nothing horror about it, the story was horrendous. I actually disagree with your rating for once.
@trustworthytim476211 жыл бұрын
The story was given to you in pieces, not puked in your face. The build up was slow, but it all adds up in the end. There was good dark humor, and it was unique. Have fun with the same movies and plots for the rest of your life, buddy. The rest of us will take creativity in what little forms we can get it.

Obviously there was nothing horror about it because it was a comedy. That's like complaining about a porno because there wasn't any character development.

this was honestly my favorite movie of 2012. and yes I saw Avengers and TDKR. It honestly felt so unique. I'm so happy that the trailer didn't give away the plot behind the cabin.

How was it at all predictable? It was a very unique movie sort of serving as the antithesis of 'predictable horror film.' Are you sure you watched all of it? Or any of it?
@pandathegoat865111 жыл бұрын
ApartmentViews The scene I remember the most is when the stoner backs up against the window and gets pulled through by a zombie or something. Yea, TOTALLY didn't see THAT coming. >.>
@360123man11 жыл бұрын
Panda The Goat I find it funny that you're using an example of one predictable scene, and saying that an entire movie is predictable. In almost every single horror movie you'll find small predictable elements. Yet, the difference with this movie is the entire plot comes together in such an unpredictable way, that it keeps you guessing up until the last second. You walk into the film expecting a few kids to go to a cabin, and get killed, and that's it. Then, by the end of the movie, you realize this entire process is set up by the government, and it's as if every single horror movie before this makes sense. I would've never predicted, walking into this film, that every death was a sacrifice to the gods, and that there were huge control rooms containing thousands of monsters and terrible creatures. This movie is far from predictable, and to believe that is predictable would just be foolish.

***** It has its moments but that is not what its about. The movie is a deconstruction of all horror movies in the past 40 years and its done in a genius way. Obviously the entire movie went over your head.

Totally agree. I didn't expect it to be too serious of a film, but about 15-20 min into the movie, I was really liking it, and was hoping it would keep that very mysterious tone, but it just completely changed. It was ridiculous. I can see some people liking that, in fact, maybe even a lot of people, but I went into the movie expecting a creepy story, but I just didn't get that. Made me a bit sad.

I went to see this movie with my friends, and it was awesome! I mean and one of friends sat there most of the time hiding into each other's shoulder, but I just thought the whole movie was so unique. I'm probably not going to see it again anytime soon but I still loved it. Favourite horror movie is Chucky, because it's funny and I'm not scared of the dark corners of my rooms after watching it.

I agree with everything he said. I just watched this movie and if I could only have one horror movie to keep it would either be Army of Darkness, the original Halloween, or this movie. That is how good it was. Literally, this might be one of the best horror movies ever made and most people don't even know it. This movie had cojones and was also clever as hell. Completely badass. Also they didn't abuse the nudity because they didn't need to, the script was awesome. The ending was the only part that I wonder if they could have written something a little better. All in all though, it was executed perfectly. No pun intended. People who didn't like it obviously didn't understand where it was coming from. It was making fun of the fact that people do the least sensible things in slasher flicks. For instance, the athlete says "we should stick together" and then they pump gas into the room and he is like "i think we need to split up" it was clever.

Many people just don't seem to get it, what this movie is about. It's not even trying to be a scary horror movie, it's all about unique entertainment, no need to take the spooky factor too seriously. It's a funny, bloodsoaked adventure through the cellar door with likeable characters and the undeniable Whedon-effect. True Whedon fans can instantly recognize some actors in the film, who are basically ambassadors of our favorite browncoat director/writer. A perfect example how to blend horror and comedy together with some style, while saluting the horror genre and a couple iconic movies along the way. And Richard Jenkins is my absolute favorite in this flick. (Especially him dropping some Fbombs on each japanese schoolgirl for successfully banishing the ghost) :D

Well, I don't know. It's not like they have bad taste or anything. I mean, they did introduce me to Indiana Jones, and I found out about Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese by my grandfather. I just wanted to know why they don't get it. I mean, they got Inception, but not this.

the movie was so weird that the weirdness was able to hold my attention. I was thinking "What's going on. This is intriguing" but then after a while I started to have at least a rough idea of what was happening and that intrigue sort of fizzled. The weirdness and mystery got stale a while before the movie was over for me. I'll certainly never watch it again because now that the unique premise has sunk in it can't really be enjoyed twice

I saw it coming. I get the feeling they might've wanted to play it even more subtle, but at the same time that would've made the ending totally look like it was out of left field. But once I saw them say that prayer everything fell into place. Don't know if SCP spoiled me, but then maybe that's why I loved the premise much more. I have to agree with the other poster though; I thought the monsters killing was a part of the ritual. Maybe they're just dicks like that..?
