Answer to the last question is Tron Legacy, generic hero story but the way the world is presented and how the sound track enhances it makes the movie feel so unique.

And that was the reason why it "bombed". I really liked the movie, and also enjoyed another Disney release that "bombed", "John Carter". Both movies were released during the phase 1 of the MCU, and while the not original MCU movies were braking bank, the "original" (not so original, but less known to the global audience) stuff didn't deliver the expected return. And that's the problem with movies these days. Movie studios are now risk averse Wall Street traded companies, that burn millions of dollars, expecting huge returns. And that is ruining the industry. Tron Legacy made 400M, John Carter 285M. These shouldn't be considered "bombs", that's still a lot of money. Sorry about the rant...

Top Gun: Maverick (same director, I believe) is kind of the same thing. Very simple premise we've seen before, but the way it's filmed and what they did with the planes and the characters made it feel very fresh.

I'm 36 I saw this movie yesterday in theaters I was the only one innthe theaters who wasn't a senior citizen lol I thought it was adorable how so many elderly couples came to see this movie and you can hear them talk to each other about it. What I loved about this movie is that it never really straight up tells you what year it is, based on the furniture, clothing, vehicles in the yard, and what's going on you can pretty much pick up like ok we in the 1900s, 1930s, 1950s, 1980s, 2000s which which I absolutely loved. This is one of my favorite movies of the year it's such a beautiful movie about life.

They do tell you that it's 2003 during the New Years scene. And the news of Pearl Harbor on the radio indicates that it's 1941 (the inventor also predicts 1942 will be a good year). But other than that, yeah, it's pretty vague.

I love the ending. I have numerous personal experiences with family members going through dementia, and I can safely say that this IS an accurate depiction of what happens when they finally remember something close to them. It's like they come back to life, regain consciousness. It's beautiful in a bittersweet kind of way, and I feel like the film portrays it perfectly.

“Here” is based on a graphic novel that was really innovative in its story telling. If you google it, you can find the original version online. For a movie based on a comic/graphic novel, it is successful where others fail in sticking to the source concept. From Wikipedia: "Here" is a 6-page comics story by Richard McGuire published in 1989, and expanded into a 304-page graphic novel in 2014. The concept of "Here" (in both versions) is to show the same location in space at different points in time, ranging from the primordial past to thousands of years in the future.

A movie I always wish more people saw and talked about is The Vanishing of Sidney Hall. On surface level it's a pretty standard story on the potential dangers of rising in fame at a young age. But what makes it stand out is how it is not linear and keeps jumping around 3 different times in Sidney's life and becomes like an unconventional mystery thriller as we discover the life choices and events that got him to where he is. And Logan Lerman plays the 3 different ages fantastically! I love this movie!

Cyrano de Bergerac, made in 1950, with an Oscar winning performance by José Ferrer. I saw this as a teen in the late 80s. It’s been my favorite film, book, and play ever since. The dialogue is amazing. There’s great humor in the film. Describing ass kissing social climbers, Cyrano says he notes how they go about making friends, the way a dog makes friends. There’s drama. Describing honor, My soul be satisfied with flowers, with weeds, with the thorns even, but let me gather them in the one garden I can call my own. There’s romance of course. The love poetry is brilliant. It’s the centerpiece of the work. Cyrano is the archetypal lover doomed to miss out on his true love, but will still love her all the same. Perfect.

This movie feels like an indie auteur movie made with a highly decorated all-star filmmaker bringing a unique vision to life with all the benefit of their experience. I honestly think that's what it is, even though I'll admit that I haven't seen the film. It has that feel of an experiment, something that the director doesn't know if it'll work, but is so confident in their abilities and their vision that they MADE it work. Also? The meteor that killed the dinosaurs struck the Yukatan Peninsula, yeah, but it raised so much dust and debris and broke up enough in the atmosphere that it's not like it's the only thing that hit the earth. Give it a few degrees of give and some of the debris that came off that asteroid would have drifted northward and hit the east coast of the USA. We don't really know, but I find it perfectly fine, especially since if we saw the actual exact asteroid? The screen would've just been a bright white flash for several seconds as the energy dispersed into the environment, followed by a wave of brown dust and earth as the ground rippled like a wave. We clearly didn't see the actual asteroid, just some debris, in this movie. HOWEVER, this is clearly dramatic license anyway, because the asteroid that killed the dinos would've streaked by so fast that we'd never be able to see it. We'd just see a bright flash and a line in the sky as it passed overhead, then the boom in the distance and then another flash of light. So I'm not upset at all by this, it's just kinda fun.

4:53 I actually do think about this. In particular with the house my grandparents lived in. I spent all my summers there with them when I was growing up. It's a very special house to me. My grandmother passed away peacefully in that home in 1995. I really want to see this movie because I do wonder about these things. For that reason, I think I will like this movie despite all the negative reviews it's getting.

I just saw Beowulf for the first time a year ago and loved it. Criminally underrated and gorey as fuck. I was not expecting that at all. But damn. My favorite movie by him is Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Back to the Future is just okay imo. I love part 2 way more. I still need to see Death Becomes Her and Used Cars.

I actually think Godzilla vs Kong did this well. I know most think of it was just dumb fun. And while the story or script wasn’t exactly anything original, I just loved how the film went on. I actually got really invested in the whole story. With the whole Hollow Earth and the Apex investigation. Plus the fights were incredible!

In regards to Jeremy's question at the end I'll throw out Searching and Missing. As for this film...it's fine. I just saw it today as a double feature with Michael Keaton's Goodrich, which was miles better. This film...I wasn't emotionally attached at all and there were way too many times that scenes would transition super quickly into something else. It was jarring. Jeremy nailed it. The inventor guy definitely won the life lottery compared to everyone else in this film. I don't hate myself for seeing it, but definitely glad that I saw this film first today before I saw Goodrich.

La La Land is one I can think of. The story itself is pretty generic but the execution is so well done that it doesn’t even matter. The musical aspect of is what makes it so unique and Damien Chazelle does a great job bringing it to life.

Breaks my heart that this review makes no mention of the fact this is based on a graphic novel. (No fault to Jeremy as the marketing made no reference to this.) But man, do yourself a favor and read it - I found it emotion, profound, and really shows the strengths of the medium.

I keep wishing Zemeckis would make a Silver Age/60's set Flash movie. Dude's shown he can do a period piece, loves people (Run Forrest) running and time travel. The cornerstone of The Flash plus Barry always had the Marty McFly "golly gee shucks" vibe to him IMO & it being in the 60's could be interesting for a cop Barry teaming up with hippie Wally West Flashes

I did a review on the movie. I felt as though it didn't make sense for Paul Bettany to be the father of Tom Hanks', Tom Hanks should've been the father. Tom Hanks is older in real life by 15 years. Maybe it was because they wanted Tom Hanks to be on screen for the final shot......I didn't love how the family life was depicted, not raising your child, and spoiling a kid doesn't really bring structure to the film emotionally. Many moments were rushed so that wasn't fun. I appreciated the uniqueness of the squares for scene changes, but the fact that they briefly mentioned Covid, and didn't dive into the story of the African American family leaving so many loop holes that you could not be connected too certain character developments was tough, a bit overcrowded. It was definitely worth the 37% rotten tomatoes, I do believe that people who grew up in a house and have history with a home such as this would feel something for the film, other then that.....the entire film being in one place for the movie kind of tired me out after about 45 minutes into the film. Maybe if you just want to see a reuniting of the cast of Forrest Gump...it could work.
