One thing that bothered me is why Jamie's mom (and her dad) doesn't seem to remember her when she comes back at the end. She doesn't realize the friend that helped her catch a killer back in high school looks just like her teenage daughter? She questions why Jamie has a bloody face. Meanwhile her best friend's mom clearly remembers her...
@andrelemi

Well that was a long time ago and they wouldn't consider their daughter to be that girl from their past. Her best friend's mom knows who she is and was always thinking about her, so it's different.

I honestly paused this video early on to watch this movie because you said it was streaming. I fucking loved it. The lead was great, I enjoyed the jokes on the 80s, loved the pink mist callback. It was a great time, a bit silly, but with like a fun premise. The actors portraying all the 80s kids were delightful. I rate this movie as a rewatch and recommend.

My thing with the film is that I believe she went to a completely different reality from the one she left. For instance, we saw that when she left things kept moving along without her obviously. I believe in her original reality she’s missing and her friend is still dead. She changed so many things when she went back that her new future is different from the one she left, like telling her mom different things and killing both killers. So now she literally can’t go to her reality anymore because multiple people that are alive in her reality are killed in the past changing everything in their town. One sign of this is that the amusement park she comes back to isn’t lit up and taken care of like the one she came from… it’s abandoned. I would’ve liked to see something about this in the film. Her mom at least should’ve recognized her a little and maybe made a joke about how she looks like someone she knew or is wearing something like someone she knew.

Questions: 1. Wouldn't young Pam die after flying off the quantum drop when Jamie opened the door? 2. How was Jamie charging her cell phone in 1987? 3. When Chris was killed in the quantum drop and adult Pam came back to life, what were her memories? Would she remember her friends' murders the way they originally happened or would she remember the time travel version?

I wouldn't say I loved it, but I had quite a lot of fun with it. The time machine bit was dumb, though. They should have just done a Happy Death Day, not bother explaining the pseudo-scientific mechanics of how it all works and just roll with it. They were definitely caricaturizing the 80s from the perspective of an up-tight Zoomer, and that did provide a few good moments (I loved the dodgeball and pot browny moments), but the fact the movie held up a mirror to the protagonist at all is commendable. It was entertaining to watch the 80s people tell her how much of a dork she is. Kinda felt like a mix of Back to the Future, Happy Death Day, and either Halloween or Scream. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it to everybody, nor do I think it was spectacular, but it was a genuinely good, fun movie. Worth checking out if you have Prime and want some dumb fun. My favorite horror comedies are probably Tuck & Dale vs. Evil, Scream (much funnier than I expected when I saw it), Cabin in the Woods, Happy Death Day, and Evil Dead 2.

They made a mistake by having it be a working time machine rather than something mystical outside of their control. The genius mentions that they don't know how time travel works, but then proceeds to explain how it works, and that is exactly how it works in the movie as well, also, since she had a working time machine at the end, why not just travel back and stop things right away? It was fun, but could have had a tighter script and dialogue - They leaned extremely heavily into the 80s tropes, which was fun, but it did feel as if the writers perhaps weren't teenagers in the 80s.
@bverji
@bverji Жыл бұрын
How I felt as well. It was a cute idea, but just not well written/made. I thought the "genesis creating a time machine" didn't work either. It seem to be leading that it was going to have something with the crystal and then just shifted. It had some moments, and was funish but really didn't work because as the video suggests the movie couldn't decide what it was, which as you point out lead to a loose script and dialogue. I am not so sure I agree that they leaned heavily into 80 tropes though...I didn't feel like it did enough an instead of contrasting the 80's and 2020's they just forced all the 80 students to be dumb.
@FloatingWhales
@FloatingWhales Жыл бұрын
@@bverji Well the stupidity(simpler times motif) is what I meant with leaning heavily into the 80s tropes, but yeah actually they could have done more with the setting itself. For example some anachronism was also the shorts at gym, which was confusing to me, from most 80s stuff I have seen, the men and women both have the short shorts. Not to mention the entire tv-antenna wifi signal. Anyhow, good concept, execution not so good, but skip a few scenes+th ending, and you'll be reasonably entertained

Speaking of Time Traveling and Slasher movies, I just got a great idea. I haven't seen Totally Killer, so this might be the plot though. But imagine a slasher movie where, similarly to this one, a slasher kills a bunch of people and then disappear. The two only survivors of the attack bonds and later starts dating and get married and have a child. The child grows up and accidentally time travels back to that previous slasher era, and realizes that SHE is the slasher. So she now have to either go on a murderous rampage, or her parents will probably never meet and she'll cease to exist. Basically a psychotic version of the first Back to the Future movie.

I really liked how little effort went into the time-machine. They gave just enough to make it believable in the movie's world, and didn't spend any extra time trying to explain it or how it works. "My mom started making this machine back in the 80's but gave up, and now I'm picking up where she left off" is just enough, seeing as the movie's tone is already a little wacky.

Idle Hands is probably my go to more fun y than scary comedy horror flick. I've seen it a hundred times of I've seen it once, and the jokes still land every time...plus Jessica Alba lookin all yummylicious doesn't hurt any!

I appreciate Jeremy because unlike "certain reviewers" he still reviews movies he didn't like and will tell us he didn't like them.

I think sometimes the comments are missing the point of his reviews and they just move to the "rating" For example this one has a "better if you're drunk" rating, but the actual review is more or less positive. Jeremy's reviews are good cause you can tell what you'd think about the movie itself. For example he'd say "I hated that this movie didn't do ___ and did ___ and didn't ___" and based on that you can say "oh, well, i actually want the opposite from him, so I will like the movie" - or vice-versa. Idk why people always think that reviews are gospel. It's a person saying if they liked the movie or not, and it's totally ok to dislke or like a movie. Other reviewers act "holier than thou" as if their opinion is the truth, when..well, it's not. Reviews are NEVER the truth, and always an opinion.

@@taylorransen7401because he doesn’t want to shit on others’ work too much now that he’s a director himself? And he does review movies he doesn’t like, he just isn’t as harsh in his wording anymore. It’s a shame, cause a lot of his old negative reviews were fun, but eh, what can you do.

I really liked the look look of the killer, definitely max Hedrum- Duke Nukem thing going, which ends up making sense. And the 16 stabbing obviously was 16 candles a Molly Ringwold connection, all in all, I to thought it was a great flick

If you're looking for a new release to review I would love it if you checked out It Lives Inside. It's an indie horror that I worked on 2 years ago. It went through some reshoots that might have changed what it was supposed to be. I was surprised when it got a theatrical release, and I feel like there's been worse movies this year that got more attention.

It Lives Inside was pretty good! I saw it last weekend. It felt a little too targeted at 11th graders for my taste, but I’d give it an 8/10. Extremely impressive camera and audio work.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is not only a perfect horror comedy but also one of the best horror sequels ever made (to me). The poster is the Sawyer family sitting like the kids in the Breakfast Club poster. Also Dennis Hopper? Watch this movie!
