One of the things that made Jurassic Park a smart movie was its scientific commentary. One of the ways this commentary is explained is through Ian Malcolm's chaos theory; the theory that would ultimately foreshadow the downfall of Jurassic Park. But what exactly IS chaos theory?
Well, that's what I'm going to talk about today! Keep in mind that I'm going to primarily focus on chaos theory as it relates to the Jurassic Park movie.
Thanks for the patience in between my uploads. October's been a busy month for me; Canadian Thanksgiving, family visits, my wedding anniversary and I broke my foot. I promise I didn't forget about you!

Awesome video. I was always told Jurassic Park doesn't apply to the real world, but coming from a fellow fan, I now know everyone who told me was wrong. Another example might be where Muldoon said that the raptors were placed in their pen because in a previous pen they tested the fences for weaknesses systematically. Muldoon would've expected the next pen to hold them better, but he was found wrong when he and Ellie headed for the maintenance shed

In the scene where Malcolm is explaining chaos to Satler, Grant exits the car where Malcolm remarks on no one could've predicted that. That pretty much marks the start of the 2nd act of the movie where the tour gets delayed, Satler gets broken up from the group, they get stuck on the t-rex paddock as a result and so on with each iteration. Also fun fact: Chricton's novel isn't divided into parts, but rather iterations of the dragon curve, with each iteration of the story getting more chaotic.

"Our presence needs to be one hundred percent antiseptic!" -Dr. Sarah Harding. What I thought about the butterfly being stepped on in the past and altered the future. Like in TLW. Eventually they will hunt you, if you don't watch your step ;)

I'd say a a major example of choas theory is Dennis Nedry. John Hammond didn't expect the sheer greed of Nedry to plot with the competition and steal DNA samples. Which led to the park collapsing, because Dennis Nedry disabled all security systems while he made his getaway

You took the words right out of my mouth JJP - I was going to reference the butterfly effect as it pertains to time travel as a perfect example of chaos rippling through the fabric of that particular timeline making backwards time travel virtually impossible. If you traveled back in time just 200 years I don't think you'd even have to interact with anyone - your mere presence would be enough to start off the knock-on effects leading to a vastly different present in which you may not even have been born. Say what do you think of the current thinking of some of the videographers on KZbin who are saying that extraction of dino dna is scientifically impossible and so all the creatures in JP/JW are NOT dinosaurs but merely clones and genetically modified modern animals. I don't like this - I thought our whole premise for enjoyment of the universe created by these movies was 'suspension of disbelief'.....

The line about the Tyrannosaur not obeying any set patterns or park schedules being the essence of chaos is over the top. If you work in a zoo, or observe animals in the wild, you'll see that recognizing and obeying patterns is essential to the animal's survival. No two ways about it.

I thought the stegosaurus was sick because it ate rocks next to a toxic plant and the toxicity caused respiratory issues and sores on the tongue etc.?

You're right about that; I'm just referring to what Malcolm said afterwards. He said the Stego isn't adapted to our world and he also said something like the Stego is like a human being at 10,000 feet altitude.

Speaking of sound of thunder (2005) movie of the same name in my opinion an ok movie even though it's no way in greatness in its masterpiece of the book of the same name but yeah instead of a t-rex in the novel the movie replaces this with a allosaurus IDK what speices of allosaurus it is whether fragilis or europus is beyond me but yeah I do like the addition of the lizard/baboon hybrids in the movie they had a cool look to their design but yeah Jeremy what do you think of the (2005) sound of thunder movie of the same name or do you prefer it's masterpiece the book I myself like the movie even though it does has its flaws sometimes but IDK I remember this one movie playing on the Syfy channel alot whenever it had the chance to play it.

Even if he did, the same thing probably would have happened (dinosaurs changing gender).

Most imprtant reason he didnt do that was. Couse male are more agressive and on Herd or Pack hiearchy it couses a fights for dominion. And to create Dino was expensive and also healing one is expensive so you dont want to do that.

@@asjaosaline5987 That's just what I was thinking. It's like having a female pet like a cat or dog; they have no reason to mark their territory and are a lot less aggressive, when probably trained and sociable of course.
