I told my teacher that i believed human actions were caused by there past, all actions are reactions. as in where the action that your doing right now is caused by some event in your past, so its like a chain (this is the EXTREMELY simple version of it, also i believe this in life as well). also im thinking that if this is true, there should be an original spark. he replied saying that i could be thinking of the chaos theory.
@lucianocastillo694 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s alright to try to control what might be in the future, but know yourself, could you handle the failure that might come? What is it you’re trying to control? My reasoning is due to the fact that every skill that I have right now has been learned because I saw something I would like to control. Those things inflicted chaos in my mind until I decided to go through the process of learning how to control these things: Gym, Art, Business, Relationships. Also when I say control, I’m referring to things that I need to respond to, or things I would like to create, this is utilizing chaos, “being present”, flowing/responding to what happens in an effortless manner because I learned the skill/how to control something that before would give me high stress.
@Raina43012 жыл бұрын
Psychologists use the term “ being present” or “ being with what is” as if we all know what that means. In fact, it is, to me, a technical term, and a skill, which for some of us has to be carefully taught and learned. If you have lived your whole life trying to figure things out in your mind, not being able to learn from experience due to lack of information in your upbringing ( catholic), or trauma, then it is a huge feat to learn this. 2
@lucianocastillo694 Жыл бұрын
I think learning how to control the chaos will take you out of “being present” as you will face failure, but only for a brief time until you’ve honed the skill on the subject you’re trying to control. “Being present” is dependent on how you react to the moment that chaos occurs. If you know how to respond or how you’d like to respond, you won’t have anything else in your mind but the response itself, once the skill is learned. That’s being present, when you see the chaos, not thinking about it’s unpredictability, having nothing else in your mind but a structured/ordered response to chaos. This is be applied to sports, gaming, driving, conversing, art and literally everything in life.

The quote at 6:41 I find particularly interesting. I don't believe an attack is a direct result of being generally cautious, but likely is a resulting social mechanism from the situational, psychological display of the person. Puffing out your chest doesn't directly deter predators on the street, but it does alter the possible attackers' perception of you to the point where they are less likely to approach you. "This is why I'm hot; I'm hot cause I'm fly, you ain't cause you not" -MIMS

I can see both sides, I don't think being scared of something automatically makes you extra vulnerable to it, but if some thugs are walking by not necessarily looking for trouble and they spot someone who is clearly scared they are more likely to be aggressive towards that person. The wolves pick out the weak type of thing.

I'm not moved by the legend that a butterfly's flap can create a typhoon, it's like an Australian guy fart and then a hurricane is generated in the USA

with the correct algorithm, and computation speed, accurate, long term, pinpoint predictions can be made possible.... the longer time has elapsed during the calculations, the less accurate the prediction will be. the element which causes the decrease of accuracy, is simply time itself.
@TwelfthRoot28 жыл бұрын
Also, a dampening effect can increase the time duration window (even make it infinite if dampening in large enough). But if you have a small probability inherent in a system then you'll never be able to predict it long-term (e.g. biological systems)
@amv0621848 жыл бұрын
TwelfthRoot2 what exactly is dampening?
@TwelfthRoot28 жыл бұрын
anthony vadala it's what causes a system to tend towards stability (if it exists in the system). In the case of butterflies and air, the dampening is the viscosity of the air. In the case of waves in water, the dampening is surface tension (it causes the energy of the wave to decrease with time by transferring energy to heat the molecules). So for a butterfly's flapping to interact with fluid motion a far distance away (say 100 miles), its effect on the fluid must overcome the ability of the fluid to dampen the butterfly's effects. Technically you could say that the system is still chaotic (is extremely sensitive to initial conditions) even with dampening, but it's less chaotic because the butterfly effect has been weakened by damping.

@@TwelfthRoot2 Wouldn’t dampening change the authenticity of the original trajectory of the chaos?

I’m not a fan of Buddhism or any ism, but mindfulness techniques, correctly taught, is a system for getting back into one’s sense scape, and being able to feel it in a methodical way, as sensations. This will eventually ground one in the body, and allow one to be “ present” in the way that animals are.

The end quote starting from 7:45, is something I hear a lot: Live in the moment, and don't try to change what is beyond our control and so on. There are two ends to every truth, and in the other end of this truth, is the opposite argument, which I think is a lot more relevant to our current situation, it goes: Take control over the chaos that we have created and act now before we discover what the concept of chaos really means...

Chaos theory is confusion through remoteness to reach a goal. This equation would be (c=r=g). This is an algebraic equation for chaos theory. In psychology people who are "wired" are affected by chaos theory. To eliminate chaos theory an evaluation of (c=r=g) would have to be done.
@theblackopslegend112 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is true, theoretically altering the past would change the future,yet we don't have the info to prove that its false right now, so for now most people are assuming that it's true. As for controlling chaos, there was a famous quote bye Einstein that i believe in: "god doesn't play dice". i don't believe in a god but i still get the meaning. there is always a reason behind an action (reaction), nothing happens at "true random", and chaos has reasons too. We just need to find the reason.
@user-bi9wm2cw8b3 жыл бұрын
We are internally wired to be sensitive to what community thinks of us because it’s an evolutionary adaptation. To be thrown out of the tribe as a hunter gatherer is the equivalent of the death penalty since you’ll have to rely entirely on yourself for survival without receiving help. Conformity to the tribe keeps you accepted as a member and keeps you alive. In the individualist modern-day societies that we live in, that hard wiring isn’t necessarily beneficial for survival anymore as one could do just fine all alone

To make it simpler: one event creates a chain of unpredictable events. Say someone invents a chocolate bar. It is impossible to predict whether or not people will eat it, and if they like it. You van find out if they did like the chocolate bar, but you couldn't predict it before you find out. One more thing, how did I understand this and interpret it to make it simple?

6:41 I can only agree with this statement to a certain extent. There could, for example, be a divergence in types of people's cautious responses (i.e. avoidance or confrontation of the problem, both psychologically and physically (although there may be 3 or more definable groups)). One of these groups of people could simply have cautious thoughts and mostly possess changes to their gate and other body movement. As proven in studies with actual psychopaths and real victims (defined in the book "The Wisdom of Psychopaths), there is a significant, definable reaction of psychopaths to victimized vs. non-victimized people and their differences in walking. On the other hand, another definable (although maybe smaller in size) group could be the people who actually confront the problem with reasonable, effective solutions. They go the gym and get buff, they buy a taser, they buy a pistol, they bring grenades and nuclear bombs with them everywhere, they take safer routes, etc.

the more raw data that is utilized with an algorithm, the larger the window can be afforded (time) before the accuracy starts to dwindle... say a super computer contains all the accumulated knowledge ever recorded by man, and it utilizes it to make predictions... the window would be very large but if it had all the data from every moment in time that has ever transpired, from every perspective lvl, that window would be massive, and it could calculate long term predictions on a massive scale, with pinpoint accuracy.

To Be with what is….good idea, but for someone with little ego structure, where is one to ground, to orient to true north? Do you have a system for achieving that? Because I have not seen this addressed in psychology. It is always “ assumed” that one knows how to be with what is. But if you are traumatized, and getting out of your head and into your body you will encounter pain and chaos, and go back into your computer brain and try to figure out how to be safe.

well location in the universe has no real meaning as we only know our location relative to other objects in the universe. and most recent models of the universe suggest that there is no definitive "center of the universe." but yes, our trajectory relative to all other things would be changed significantly should there had been a slight change in initial conditions

So if human actions are, as you say, reactions to the past, would not it be possible to control the future outcomes, if someone were to find a way to alter the past? I think this theory is wrong as it allows for the possibility of control over the chaos... I think that by saying that actions are reactions to the past you are just trying to rationalize (=control) what you can't control, the chaos...
