Finishing up my Balanced Arm Camera mount build. A bit of re-machining things I machined in previous videos, working out spring tension, and test driving it.
If you like what I'm doing here and find some value in it, consider supporting my work on Patreon: / jeremymakesthings
I promise I'll still mostly make stuff out of rusty junk and not just buy shiny things with your money.

Brilliant ending. I find watching someone else clean up there machines to be very relaxing. My camera stand bounces around like that as well. Yours came out great.

I was waiting at the lathe in line with the other guys, but because i took my time getting there I couldn't see a thing from the back row, could you do that all over again for us slow people. Ya know you have some really dedicated subscribers, one guy told me he stood outside all night just so he could get a front row seat. Another guy told me he sent his girlfriend to stand in line. Anyway we all agreed that the only reason to put knurling on something is so that the vise grips work better. Good job for pointing that out. Great video, cause it has a better view than in person live.

So I'm not the only one who has bought an extension cord for the lone purpose of throwing it across the rafters to the opposing wall? Nearly did it with a garden hose some time ago due to the hose bib being inside the garage on the wrong wall...

That arm you made is very useful. Most people would search Amazon or B&H and buy one. I admire how you just made it.

As always very entertaining and educational. Can you use some dampers to deal with the arm bouncing around? Not sure how you'd integrate these but something a la Citroen 2CV? Maybe that's too much, but you can also get some serious dampers in R/C shops for some of the bigger scale off road trucks/buggies. A couple of dozen of those and you're set.

Turn out great. To help with the bouncing, maybe add a few dampeners? Could probably even make some either out of a small air or hydraulic cylinder or completely form scratch.

This came out great! I also have always liked those lamps and I've been wanting to make a simpler version to hold my soldering tray or small tool tray over my work bench for working on stained glass or anything else where I want the whole surface free. Wasn't sure how to go about figuring out spring strength so totally gonna steal your turnbuckle idea to adjust preload. Lol'd at the tape!

Do you have Fusion 360 for modeling designs like this? Fusion allows you to use motion joints so you can test all of the possible motions in the model before making a single part. It would be a huge advantage for projects like this and no, I'm not a representative of Fusion or Autodesk, I'm just a big fan of using it for new designs. The time it would take to model it would be far less time than having to re-machine or even remake parts! Just trying to help! Otherwise, well done IMHO! :-)

I downloaded fusion, looked at it once, and went back to Rhino. Fusion is probably (almost certainly) better for this sort of thing, but I’m proficient in Rhino so it’s tough for me to put in the time to learn fusion. But I should do that.

@@JeremyMakesThings I understand what you mean. Fusion IMHO does seem to be geared more towards mechanical engineering than Rhino. Whatever works for you is all that matters really.
