Fishman rare earth blend can send out two signals, one magnetic and one microphone without the need for phantom power. That is the route I am going from now on.
@MattaPhillipsmusic2 ай бұрын
I would say the phantom power requirement is enough to keep a lot of people at bay. They will have to make some sort of modification to allow for use with preamps. As it wouldn’t work with a venue DI, being that it doesn’t run on phantom, adapter or 9v battery only. Also I get the premise with the clamp, but the fact that it serves no purpose but to anchor to the guitar, it would still be affecting the tone gripping the top, vs it being completely internal like the trinity system. It sounds good, the choice of power doesn’t make much sense to me. It runs the risk of potentially frying something if the person at the mixer isn’t familiar with phantom. I would be interested to see if it would hold up in a full band mix.

Can't see the problem. Nearly all acoustic amps and mixers have phantom power option
@MattaPhillipsmusic2 ай бұрын
@@chrisminer5884 false. Fishman offers the loudbox performer with 24v phantom only, which would still not be enough power for this. The larger Bose L1 pro 16 at $1900 has it, JBL prx one at $1800 has it, neither EV standalone systems have it. Most looking for an “affordable pickup” aren’t shelling out $2k for the system that will work with it. How does it work with the adapter? Plugging the pickup into an adapter, to plug into the system? It’s a lot of work for a problem that didn’t exist before 2024. 2032 and 9v batteries still work just fine and as long as you mute and unplug, it takes forever to kill one.
@jakobstumpf3912 ай бұрын
I don't understand why you would need a DI if you already had a balanced signal with XLR Out. Phantom Power only limits the use of the guitar with 80s Powermixers. Anything else, you plug in and go without a DI. This solution gets rid of two problems: shit acoustic sound and needing a DI which ALWAYS degrades signal and needs Phantom Power anyway.

It sounds great, and I have a co-worker who has a Taylor who wants no part of installing permanent in his Taylor, so he uses a sound hole pickup, and it so misses the natural sound of the Taylor. Since I primarily play at church, I'm not sure if we have phantom power, but we might (I would have to ask the sound guys). But for the right purpose, that would be a great pickup. Not sure it's practical for me, but it is great for the right person and the right situation.

@alanlevin1672 ай бұрын
The output jack is a standard Fishman 'SwitchJack'. This costs $30 right now and can be a pain to wire up if you have to do this yourself. For this unit, they did it already! Figure this into your valuation of the device. Also, accessory Phantom Power units start at $30. However, one problem is that most Phantom Power units only have XLR, low impedance outputs. If you use a traditional guitar amp with 1/4", high impedance inputs you now have a problem. Not insurmountable but a problem.

This is a great sounding pickup. Can you clarify if this is actually a pickup or just a microphone? It looks like a magnetic sound hole pickup with a mic that blends but there doesn’t appear to have any blending capability and it certainly doesn’t sound like a mag pickup.

Subjective Opinion on Phantom Power The lack of phantom power is a subjective concern. Practically every acoustic amplifier includes phantom power, and in rare cases where it is absent, affordable adapters are available. However, the main advantage of this “disadvantage” is that you will never need to replace batteries or recharge them, monitor battery levels, or experience microphone distortion when it runs low. Quality Comparison Cheap Chinese microphones cannot deliver the same sound quality as the NV TONE Swan. This is studio-quality sound, right in your home. Additional Benefits One overlooked advantage: the NV TONE Swan includes a 100% copper audio cable, 16.4 feet in length. No other manufacturer provides a cable longer than 6.5 feet. With this extended cable, you won’t need to buy an additional one, and you’ll have the freedom to move around your room comfortably while staying far from the speakers. Price and Quality Unfortunately, price doesn’t always guarantee quality. Regarding Ukraine All microphones are stored in a U.S. warehouse, and the product’s only connection to Ukraine is its origin. Global Shipping Worldwide delivery is meticulously planned to ensure safety.

Everse 8 has phantom power, but why does the pickup need it? Because it’s not battery powered. Too many things holding this pickup back for the professional musician. Lyric is static mic, sticked at static plase, Swan is differrent by flexible neck. That gives You much of sound variability. PS - battery is more worst than better - when battery became lower than 75-70% your sound would changes... and oh yeah - weight, i think phantom power is better than replaceable unit

Use a volume pedal to stop feedback if that does happen and make sure to face your guitar away from facing the amp or any PA speakers. Also sound checks are your friend.
@JohannesLabusch2 ай бұрын
People who play acoustic guitar in a full band will have less of a need for pristine acoustic sound, and will probably be better served with a different system. This is clearly geared toward people who play in smaller, predominantly acoustic groups, or soloists. Maybe it would be a good idea for the makers of Swan to invent a soundhole plug that will accomodate their invention.

Nice sounding pickup. Would have been nice to know that minimum thickness on the sound hole and possibly a maximum. The other thing is I do not do installs with my eyesight. Since it isn't carried by a dealer, it might cost me almost as much to have it installed. Third, I am accustomed to a K&K or K&K Trinity not needing phantom power. I don't think my Loudbox has it. I went with the stand you reviewed, but I will wait on this. I will soon find out how that stand does in the cold as we have snow on the ground now with more later this week. Thanks.

Thanks for another great video! Interesting stuff, I really like to see companies looking for ways to solve multi-source pickups at affordable price points. That said, I and many others have long since passed the threshold of paying for the best, reliable tone (Fishman REB, Anthem, Hifi Duet etc), especially when solving the multi-source challenges. When you qualified in this video "great... at this price point" - I'm out. We guitarists spend so much $$ on our passion, this is an odd place to value-engineer, right? Plus, the phantom power thing is a large issue that will follow this product through its lifespan. Phantom power management is widely misunderstood and folks will have issues when attempting to play live. Example: I have one DI with phantom power pass-through, the JHS Colour Box V2, which is a $450 piece of equipment.

Great thumbnail! Just want you to know the good news of the Gospel. The bad news is that you and I (everyone) are sinners. And since God is Holy He doesn’t put up with sin. So sin leads to hell. The good news is God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins on the cross. This means Jesus paid the debt we owed but couldn’t pay. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV). So if one repents and places faith (trust) in Jesus Christ they can be assured of heaven. I love you and so does God.
