Love the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked - flavour bomb at a decent price (about $75ish in Australia, $65 when on special). The Glendronach 15 is great, I've had bottles of most of their core range (including their new peated expression, which is delicious). For me, the 18 year old Glendronach is incredible, it's a significant step up from the 15, highly recommend it! Great video Jeremy, cheers!

I have to say that my favorite Single-Malt Scotch has to be Glenmorangie 12. Granted, it's not high ABV, nor does it have "Unique Charecteristics". But it's delicious, it drinks smooth, and it's not all that expensive.

Indeed. Glenmorangie has a wide range of different ones, & would represent the other side of the spectrum of single malt scotch as opposed to the islays. Glendronach's are O.K., MacAllans are overpriced. And John Powers Three Swallows are the irish equivalent to wild Turkey 101 bourbon. Character & style, whereas most irish whiskey don't have either.

Rare Breed is excellent! I have tried Macallen 12 Double Cask and just can't get behind it. Also I have found that Knob Creek 9 is not a great sipping whiskey for me but it works really well in an Old Fashioned. I think I have found that I do not like over sherried/long finished whiskeys just a touch of finishing... a kiss of finishing is more to my liking. A ton of people really dig Macallen. Some sherry finish stuff gets a little nail polishy/acetone/fake sweetener aftertaste which is not pleasant for me.

@@derpilzmann I do not add water to my glass and drink exclusively through Glencairns. I tend to sip gingerly and breathe outwards from my mouth once or twice to cool the whisky before letting it go down the hatch. Afterwards breathing in through the nose then exhaling out. I can often get Woodford Reserve for very good prices over here in the UK. I always thought it was a great neat bourbon, but I'm not a bourbon expert. However, I'm very fortunate, great Scotch is pretty affordable where I am. I have a particular weakness for good Japanese whiskey though, it occupies a third space between bourbons and scotch, in my inexpert opinion.
@tommyrq180 Жыл бұрын
The three lines I use to introduce bourbon to people are Wild Turkey (101, RR, Rare Breed), Old Forester (100, 1920), and Old Grand Dad (100, 114). Start with the low end but higher proof entry levels and advance to those higher end but affordable lines. WT and OF have fabulous affordable ryes as well (WT101 Rye, OF Rye) to find out what people like before they dive into Pikesville or others (Rare Breed Rye, Sagamore, Woodinville). I don’t do the “line” treatment with Jack except for entering at Single Barrel but probably my all-time favorite available “bourbon” is the Single Barrel Barrel Proof as noted here. But entry level people choke on the proof! Also, I always include Barrell Dovetail. Why? Off-camber, available and WOW. Once people get used to the rest, introduce something like Dovetail and they understand how diverse and phenomenal things can get with a little imagination. On scotch, I’m pretty much an Islay guy, as I enjoy being kicked in my groin area by my scotch. Laphroaig 10. You can stop there. Or Ardbeg Corryvreckan (over Uigeadal) or the latest hitter, Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10. Or Lagavulin (anything Offerman). So much for my two cents! Nice video here-right down the middle, provides people a great foundation.

I was wanting to try bourbon and the guy in the liquor store recommended wild Turkey 101 and it was the most disgusting shit I've ever tasted in my life. What bourbon should I try next?
@tommyrq180 Жыл бұрын
@@ForThePeople777 I certainly understand! Wild Turkey 101 is not an entry-level bourbon for some because of the 101 proof. For some, bourbon is called an “acquired taste,” that is, you need to stick with it for awhile. Drink it in small sips, with water or ice. Big drinks can overpower the experience. You might want to try Irish whiskeys or perhaps an 80-proof Scotch (anything Speyside) which some find easier to drink right out of the gate. I find some can handle Basil Hayden’s bourbon as an entry drink. But everyone is different. Don’t throw away that Wild Turkey. You might ease into it a bit and find a way to acquire a taste for it!

Pretty solid list. All easily available in Texas of the North - Alberta 🇨🇦. I would say save your pennies and go from glendronach 15 - 21 Year and get Glenfarclas 15 in replace of the aforementioned 15 year. Lol and macallan is the BMW of the scotch world . People may hate on them to hate on them but at the end of the day they make a good product even if it’s 20% over inflated. Imo lag 16 is the smoothest islay that could be easily a daily sipper if not for the price. Ardbegs to my pallet are sweeter brighter but also spikier and saltier (not sure if that’s a word. Oh well). Give the Offermen Guinness ardbeg a go. You can definitely taste the influence and the bottle information is a cut up! Thanks for the great video as always!

It's too good and too cheap not to consume like water. The Uigeadail is the most expensive whiskey in my collection. And... it's my favorite. I drink it sparingly, because I dread not having any left. It is magic!

Uigeadail is in my top 3 all time whiskies...so good I named my dog after it!

Some that I recommend are Johnny Walker Black Label for regularly blended scotch, Crown Royale & Forty Creek Barrel Select as my Canadian picks. For OG tastes, there is Glenlivet SEs, Glenddich 15y, and Old Pulteney 12y.

The Glendronach 15 and Ardbeg Uigeadail are my thing, they're exceptional. The Arran Sherry cask is also amazing and a bit like Glendronach 15. I haven't tried the others, will give some a try.

The Scotch Whisky I always recommend is CAOL ILA. Every one is exceptional but the 18 year old is just that little bit special.

@@EscobarStyle from Spot whiskey there are only 4 I know of. Yellow Spot, Blue Spot, Red Spot and Green Spot. They are all excellent, but definitely Greenspot is my favorite. It is affordable, easily accessible and those green apple notes are unsurpassed. It is smooth and so rich in flavor. You will absolutely love it. Some of the best from Ireland.

you need to try Bushmills Black Bush blended whiskey and Bushmills 16 & 21 year old single malts.

Really enjoyed the video, for those who also want something similar to Macallan but slightly more affordable (because not all of us can pay that price all the time) Suntory makes a bottle of Toki it’s similar enough in taste but about half the price in most places. It’s good, but if you have the money go for the Macallan

Toki is a nice drop but folks should know is a blend. A good blend though!

I bought Deveron 12 yo today and tasted it. I think it should be one in the "arsenal". It is a really clean whisky. Kinda light. To me it tasted like a light version of Macallan 12yo. Some might disagree. But at the price its really worth the money. Perfect whisky for the warmer months of the year I think. Usually when it gets colder and darker I tend to drink Islay malts that tastes more of alcohol than this one. This one is a perfect gift to someone that is stuck in the "terrible" swamp of blended whisky were most tastes like melted plastic toys in alcohol (Yes Famous Grouse, I'm looking at you and your friends). Even though it doesn't, to me, tastes like a lot of alcohol and its taste isn't as full as most whiskys its almost a "must have" in the collection to offer someone that "hates" whisky to maybe spark some interest. This is really an interesting whisky. After a couple of sips.... you really start to suck out all of the aftertaste. Kinda like if you just had your last toffee and want more candy. Most whiskies are powerful in their taste but this one is interestingly subtle

Im not a bourbon expert by any means, but some I always keep stocked are WT 101, 1792 small batch, Makers Mark, Larceny and Four Roses small Batch. For Russels, I keep the 10 year. I own lots of others but I usually replace these as they are used up. Thank for the great video. One question, where/how would someone sell some rarer or harder to find bottles of bourbon? I have some I am interested in selling.

I do not have as much drinking Scotch, but really enjoyed Laphroaig 10. As far as the list of ones that I am familiar with, I agree on the Bourbons, Rye and Redbreast. The biggest surprise out there is how easily accessible Pikesville is. Great Rye, esp if you do not like the minty flavors of the high ryes.

I heard a grand on whiskey in a month and laughed. My wife isn’t too happy. But that’s because each trip to the store usually costs almost a grand. 240+ bottles on the shelf is hard to hide. Its so darn addicting That said I 100% agree with this list. The JD SiB Barrel Proof is one of my staples to this day. I always keep a stockpile of it. I dont keep woodford double oaked anymore, but it was one of the ones that started me off. Russels single barrel is also incredible for the price and availability!

If I had a recipe for whiskey, it wouldn't be so specific, it would be just whatever grains you can find locally in the park, mixed with some distilled water and yeast, and let sit in Aerobic conditions, until it's nice and fermented and bubbly.... and then you distill that, ( 180° farenheit) and take the resulting liquid and age it in Walnut barrels.... boom, whiskey

As far as staple Islays go, Talisker Storm is a must. I've heard it could be better than their 10 year, but can't confirm. Can confirm that it is a great introduction to peaty whiskey without being immediately blown out by it.

I was watching Kurt over on SLB Drinks and his special occasion only, slow sipping whiskey he owns is the Redbreast 27 Yr. Old. And he said that ANY Redbreast pours at any price point is a must have. The 27 Yr Old is going from $500 to $700 depending on availability and where you find it, so I was not surprised at all that you grabbed a bottle when you went to the Europe offerings. Liked and subbed.
