I find it interesting when you say "before this was invented". I've grown up using a computer and it just, working but not all that long ago, it would seem, things were very different. Usually when things are 'invented' I tend to automatically think back to, let's say when the lightbulb was invented.. but I need to come back to reality and realise these protocols were made not all that long ago! I guess things really are changing at a rapid pace. Anyway... there is an insight into my mind. Thanks for the great video again Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy, Hope everything is smooth Have one question: Why would we want to configure a default domain name and make pcs part of it, as you did on 20:21 min? Why are dots included on the domain names? Thanks
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 3 жыл бұрын
DNS uses a hierarchical system, so the domain name is combined with the host name to get the 'FQDN' (Fully Qualified Domain Name) of the device, for example R1.jeremysitlab.com. There could be tons of routers named 'R1' in the world, but only one R1. The dots are there for the same reason they are in a webpage, again it's for hierarchical organization.

@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 3 жыл бұрын
@@ivagar1982 In that case 'uk' is a top-level domain, 'co' is a second-level domain, 'example' is a third-level domain, and finally 'pc1' is the host name. All of those together, pc1.example.co.uk, make the FQDN of the host.

The ip dns server command is not working for me in packet tracer. Is this normal?

There are a lot of commands not supported in packet tracer, that might be one of them.

You didn't talk about the root server, TLD Server, authoritative name server, are they not needed for the CCNA? 🤔

Are you asking to buy Jeremy's lab files? If so: They're free. Are you asking to buy equipment for a CCNA laboratory? Is so: It's pricey.

The ExSim question is a little vague, HostA CAN establish a TCP connection to the DNS Server if the message is greater than 512 bytes. So how can I decide that it's NOT one of the best answer. The CCNA exam started to get scary if the questions will be vague/unclear like this.
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab 3 жыл бұрын
It is a bit vague for sure. But for a regular DNS lookup (what's the IP address of this website?) you can bet that it'll be using UDP, not TCP. Most questions on the CCNA won't be vague like this, don't worry.
