You already covered setting IP addresses on switch SVI’s when covering layer 3 switched. The concept is the same, but the switch does not route traffic. You shouldn’t set the IP as a gayeway for anything, but it can be reached as a host.

@-theflea-45613 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeremy, at 10:30 you said that the SVI should be enabled by default. Is this right for layer 2 switches? I believe that SVIs are shutdown by default on routers but this had me confused about L2 switch SVIs. Love the content so far 👍
@JeremysITLab3 жыл бұрын
Routers typically don't use SVIs! Only if you add a switchport module to it and then you use SVIs for the switchports. Normal router interfaces are already Layer 3 interfaces, there's no need to configure SVIs. On switches, the SVIs are usually enabled by default, but it depends on the model.
@-theflea-45613 жыл бұрын
@@JeremysITLab Thanks for the clarification. I have been going through the flashcards and there was a question in the Vlan cards; 'SVIs are [shutdown/no shutdown] by default'. The flashcards are a huge help in getting the information to stick.

Hi Jeremy, thanks for the great CCNA training videos and labs. I notice that in packet trace we can use command "ip name" and description is the same as "ip name-server" R1(config)#ip name ? A.B.C.D Domain server IP address X:X:X:X::X Domain server IP address (maximum of 6) R1(config)#ip name- R1(config)#ip name-server ? A.B.C.D Domain server IP address X:X:X:X::X Domain server IP address (maximum of 6) R1(config)#ip name-server Does this mean that both commands are the same? Thanks in advanced.

Hi Jeremy! Thanks a lot to share your knowledge! For curiosity, I've disabled IP DOMAIN LOOKUP and after try a ping to PC1 which was successfully done. Why is that possible?
@JeremysITLab3 жыл бұрын
I guess you did it on R1, after configuring a host entry for PC1? In that case, R1 doesn't need to use DNS to learn PC1's IP address, it has a manually configured host entry.
