When I decided to do the lab once again and this time from scratch, I've got completely stuck with multilayer switch as Packettracer kept reporting that DSW is powered down and wouldn't give access to CLI. I did a google search and discovered that actually you have to manually drag and drop icon of a power supply over icon of actual switch device with your computer mouse. Twice. Well. That was a creative way for Cisco to show who the real boss is here. :) Since I cannot imagine a live human being configuring a device which is switched off (no lights, no sound, no fans, all dark and cold), but I was glad they didn't ask me to bolt the rack to the floor dragging 4 blots and 4 washers with my mouse before giving access to CLI. ;) Great series Jeremy!

whats the power supply dude..? i mean is it a battery or something else..?
@dmitrikazantsev36926 ай бұрын
@@saitejaprathipati3988 Cisco Packettracer in its desire to be as realistic is possible considers simulated equipment to be turned off and doesn't allow any CLI with it until you ~"physically" install~ power supply units. To do this you need to drag and drop two icons of power supply module using your computer mouse in your simulation, which I see as a joke.

Just one little question to clarify: If layer 2 Switches are not aware of IP, how can they load-balance etherchannels based on IP?

It depends on the switch model some older ones might not be able to. But most switches these days have both Layer 2 and Layer 3 functionality.
@AndriyKerez4 жыл бұрын
@@JeremysITLab I was wondering about the same... What would happen, if ASW1 or ASW2 is not a multilayer switch , and the load-balancing was set to src-dst-ip?
@warcryplayer57514 жыл бұрын
I think, it is because they're not using a routing protocol or static configured route, they're using an algorith to forward traffic in this case they load-balance and that algorithm use the hash which is found in the last bits of the source and destinantion ip addresses and they perform a xor operation on those last bits. (I think that the algoritm is not important for the exam)...The fact that layer 2 switches are not able to route packets doesn't mean that they are not aware of IP addresses. They keep using IPs addresses for administrative reasons (like in Telnet or SSH) or maybe they use IP addresses to perform a local algoritm, just like in this case...As far as i could see packet routing and load-balance are two different processes.

Thank you for this lab. Regarding the link between DSW1 and DWS2, which we want to configure as a layer-3 EtherChannel link: In Packet Tracer, if I enter the `no switchport` command in the port-channel interface configuration mode (but NOT in the interface configuration mode for the underlying physical interfaces) and do all other configurations as in the video, then the pings from the PCs to SRV1 still succeed. Will this also be the case on actual Cisco devices, or is this a Packet Tracer thing? Note: The output of `show running-config` differs with the two approaches. Applying `no shutdown` to the port-channel interface only, we get (for DSW1) ``` interface Port-channel 2 no switchport ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.252 ! interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1 channel-group 2 mode on ``` Applying `no shutdown` to the physical interfaces only, we get ``` interface Port-channel 2 no switchport ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.252 ! interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1 no switchport no ip address channel-group 2 mode on duplex auto speed auto ```

Hi Jeremy, Please my question based on the Layer 2 EhterChannel question on Boson. The question No.1 of Task1 and question No1. of Task 2 could you please explain to me how it just 2 etherchannel we can configure on the whole topology. I thought it is on any device where there are more than 1 port connection. According to your video we configure it on both Access and Distr. Layer switch
@JeremysITLab4 жыл бұрын
There are 2 connections between each switch, so we can configure 2 ports in each EtherChannel!

aonther question regarding etherchannel load-balance mode, do they need to match on pairing connected switch, such as src-mac to src-mac or they each can have seperate load balance mode?
@cristianfeliz82842 жыл бұрын
I don't understand what is the dynamic thing when you use LACP or PAgP because if a I create in on site of the switches the port channel I thought that automatically the other neighbor switch connected with the same interface that has a port-channel in the configure switch also going to generate automatically this Ethernetchannel in this neighbor switches.

Hi Jeremy, Thank you for the video. I have two questions though: 1. Can I change the protocol, for example form PAgP to LACP, after the port channel has already been created and configured with a specific protocol? 2. If yes, then what are the CLI commands required to do so? Thanks for your help
@JeremysITLab4 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried it, but I think you will have to delete the current port-channel and then remake it. For example: SW1(config-if-range)# no channel-group 1 mode desirable ( *removes the interfaces from the PAgP port-channel* ) SW1(config-if-range)# no interface port-channel 1 ( *deletes the port-channel interface* ) SW1(config-if-range)# channel-group 1 mode active ( *configures the interfaces in a new LACP port-channel* )
@abdelrahmanelsherbiny88334 жыл бұрын
@@JeremysITLab I tried that before but wasn't able to delete the channel. Probably because I didn't use the (no interface port-channel 1) command. I think it should work now. Thanks for the help Jeremy, you're the man.

Does configuring different load balance mode on a single link is allowed? for example, one end is configured with src-mac and another end is configured with src-dst-ip.

Yeah that's allowed

One question; I understand that all configuration done on the Port-Channel interface will be applied to all member interfaces, correct? The only thing you should configure beforehand is if the interface should be layer 2 or 3, but for example tagging vlans, changing native vlan, etc can be done only on the PO interface? I only ask because we didn’t change any config except for make the ports trunk in L2.

@JeremysITLab4 жыл бұрын
The default gateway should be the SVI on the layer 3 switch.

I noticed that as soon as the load balance method was changed to src-dst-ip I was not able to ping anymore from PC1 to the server. Put it back to src-mac and it worked again. I suspect that is just another packet tracer limitation.

How was your pace with these lessons guys? One a day, multiple a day, space out throughout the week while using flashcards?
@scientiest123 ай бұрын
One lesson each day with detailed notes from the lecture of everything new to me, review flashcards after the lecture, then do the lab. Try to do these 3 at minimum each day. If you have time remaining, you may watch another lecture as well

i try to do 1 lecture video, 1 lab, that day's flashcard and previous days flashcards a day, but I must admit, it is getting harder. like this topic i couldn't do in a day
@scientiest122 ай бұрын
@@dhanajon5528 after reaching certain days, you have to stop revising the entire deck each day. Just try to do your daily deck each day, and review 1-2 previous decks of important topics every alternate day, that way its easier to stay on top of it.

Wait, don't vlans operate on level 2? Why are IPs assigned directly to the vlans on DSWs rather than to their interfaces? Also ASWs are Layer 2 switches. How do they load balance based on IP? I'm somewhat confused.

Merry Christmas! Boson is having a sale until the end of this month for 25% off, you can use the code MERRY20 to get the discount. Both of those ExSim are for AWS, you should get ExSim for CCNA, here's my link: jeremysitlab.com/boson-exsim

Jeremy, why do we needed to enable switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q on Layer3 switches, when enabling trunking on them but not on Layer2 switches on the other side ? Is there a difference ? I did the lab by myself but I had only one mistake and it was that encapsulation on L3 Switches...Cheers
@JeremysITLab3 жыл бұрын
Some switch models only support 802.1q encapsulation, so you don't need to specify it. On switches that support both 802.1q and ISL, you need to specify which to use.

As always, this was real helpful, clear, and easy to follow. Thank you! Q. If I am setting up an office remotely, can I pre-configure the switches, then once they are set-up, have someone plug in the connectors? If so, is there any reason to not do it this way? (Day 23 Lab)

Not sure if this is a thing with Packet Tracer, but when I set up the trunk I just entered the command while configuring the interface range g0/1 - 2. It still configured PO1 as a trunk. In a real world scenario would it be different? Thank you for your videos! They've been great.
