I seem to remember that this wasn’t Simoncelli’s fault, after the race Bautista said he either hit the limiter or something like missed a gear change causing him to fractionally slow and be rear ended. Still, it didn’t stop the crowd from Blaming Simoncelli.

I remember the legendary Sic in 1995, he was an 8 year old boy on the minibike track in Cattolica, near Rimini... a phenomenon!!! Never, I say never, have I seen an 8 year old child do those trettoes and ride a minibike in that way, and I have seen many little riders here in Romagna, it is full of young talents, I spoke that day with one of the track managers who told me: "A phenomenon is emerging, he is the son of Graziano Rossi, the former driver and his name is Valentino... he will certainly make a career, but look at that child there (indicating the Sic): he goes even stronger

Everyone liked to blame SIC , he had balls, that's what racing takes , if you wan't to make it totally safe then there's no point competing, after all that's why these guy's get paid vast amounts of money, a few riders wimped out in the end and stopped racing, they know who they are, make it safe and get paid less, let those with big balls show you how it's done.

IIRC we found out later that Batista's engine seized going into the corner hence the crash with Simoncelli having no where to go. It was a shame for what was going to be an amazing last lap battle. I remember lots of people shitting on Simoncelli afterwards till the facts came out.
