I'm birkenhead born and raised and this video breaks my heart. Had many a good time in a lot of these pubs. The music fits it perfectly and editing is superb. Thanks for putting this together, we've lost a lot of local history but a least we have this visual memory of what once was.

I played darts in the 50's & 60's in a lot of the Birkenhead pubs. Seeing the Livingstone closed, brings back it's opening. As a young man my local was the Bank of Ireland in Beckwith Street. It was after 'The Bank' was closed the Livingstone opened. Now that's gone. Wonderful memories, wonderful video, thank you

Great post, thanks. Sad to see so many pubs closing, but a lot of them seem to be around the docks which says a lot. G Truly gutted that Redcaps has closed, had a great session in there a few years back on a lads day out.

When I still lived in Liverpool in the 80s/90s I used to regularly go over the water for pub crawls and a fair few used to involve the Mersey Arms (4:25) that I recall was a good stop for being one of the few places that served the extra strong Wobbly Bob cask ale, and had a couple of bandits that had been in there since the 70s and so cost next to nothing to play. So sad to see it derelict.

The Observatory has been closed and re-opened several times in the last 5 years. The last time was in 2009 but sadly it remained open for only a few short months before closing again. The Westbourne has now been converted into flats. Meanwhile another famous Birkenhead hostelry "The Dock" on Park Street has been closed for around 12 months and unfortunately caught fire and was severely damaged just after Christmas.
Remember them very well and glad that the crown in Conway Street is fighting back .Great pub and great people that are running it

Wellington in Liscard reopened many years ago and is a thriving pub. Have enjoyed a good meal there recently. I write in 2017, nearly ten years after this video was made. An updated version would be great. Moby Dick in West Kirby gone. The Ship in Wallasey gone etc.

Spent my 16th birthday in the Copperfield bouncing around to happy hour by the house Martin's (86)drank in a few of the alehouses.i moved to Holland in 86 never to return apart from on short visits,it's a shame that In the last 35 years britain is the only European country to decline more and more. Whatever happened, from bouncing around fields full of drugs and love,to a fucking madhouse full of proper whoppers. 🏴☠️

I for one support the no smoking policy in British pubs, but I'm also definitely saddened by pubs closing in the numbers they are. The thing is, have anything other than 'run down' pubs been closed? Is it purely the price differential between pubs and supermarkets that is causing people to make choices were they drink? PS - There shouldn't be an apostrophe in 'orders'. Perhaps I'll make a video campaiging about apostropheitis.

Hello,I would say that a lot of people who drink alcohol also smoke too.People who smoke are now put off going to a pub so this is affecting trade.Smokers are now being criminalised and this is encouraged by goverment policy. They think they know what is best for us under their nanny state. Its all to do with saving money in future national health treatment as well.I am by the way a non smoker.

I think it is part of losing the whole working class communities that were in Birkenhead before the loss of jobs and industry in the area.
