MaxTheAwesome correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always thought the majority of the STALKER team had Russian origin. But I've only said Russian to make the joke funny, I certainly don't want to diminish the role Ukrainians played to make the game, after all, the studio and its founder are Ukrainian. Something to be proud of, and then there's 4A Games too. I definitely admire the Ukrainian game industry way more than the Russian.

over 1 million people own the game on steam, and it's massively popular in the east, which is filled with people that probably buy a lot of physical copies of games and don't use steam. It's not an underrated gem it's just a popular old game.

Look, it's not unpopular, plenty of PC gamers know about it and plenty of them own it too. Why would so many mods have english translations if it was unpopular in the west? I mean you can't expect a ton of people playing it every single day since it's pretty old now, but people still do to the point that steam actually displays the people playing it right now, which is 375. For a 10 year old single player game that's really good.

And most people playing this game don't own it on Steam, they either own original standalone DVDs or pirate versions of the game. It has an insanely huge community in Russia and all over Eastern Europe, with more than 100 fiction books released inspired by the game (itself inspired by the book Roadside Picnic), and still there's a ton of people playing the STALKER games (including me, occasionally). I've played this game more than Skyrim, and I played Skyrim A LOT...

I'm overweight even with my Exosuit and two goldfish in Call Of Pripyat. I have enough guns to arm everyone in the zone with at least an AKM-74/2. I carry about 3 full-length guns and a handful of pistols, lots of grenades and artifacts too, I loot every guy I kill and painstakingly walk back to camp after every reasonable firefight. Jerma's not even close to actual stalker hording yet!

what do you mean by buttugly? It looks freaking awesome. Not enough polygons and texture resolution? Well, check the release date of the game. Given THAT level of technology, being able to make a game SO realistic... Textures, grass, lightning, sky, animation, models, etc. These guys are geniuses.

it is ugly, character have low polys and most important - terrible animations. They are all like puppets. Even 2004 animators tried to do something better than this.

Polys and animations are not very good but overall it looks pretty good for 2007 semi open world game.

The animations are sometimes weird and unrealistic, but they're good enough and smooth enough to make the models feel alive, they don't look like robots, which, imo, is quite impressive for a game that old. As for the graphics, it's ugly in the sense that the world is ugly, but that's intended, it's supposed to feel post-apocalyptic. And also, welcome to a Soviet Union territory, where the architectural style is depressive and ugly af.

That bit with the electric in the tunnel was so painful, you could SEE the lightning dissapear and move up, yet he struggled to grasp the concept. Also did SoC have emisions like CoP? because i would have loved to see him try to cope with that when he struggles with anomalys.

Honestly it took me until my 3rd or 4th playthrough of the game to learn that the electric tunnel (and a lot of the game that seemed too hard to maneuver) was actually crossable. I've always just used the irradiated opening in the fence.

It was my understanding that SoC was better when you installed the Stalker Complete mod 2009 (that number is irrelevant, last update was march 2017). But many will argue that vanilla with some later patches is the true Stalker exp. Lots of fixes and mods out for these games so i'd just do some research first and then decide .
