C'mon ya'll. Jermaine Dupri is very influential, past and present, with Hip Hop and R&B! He was a big part of that culture that shaped our music into a great artform which keeps it relevant today. Trying to debate JD’s influence to a group of individuals like OutKast and the Dungeon Family is thinking waay inside the box. JD can say he’s more influential due to his multi talented success as a dancer, songwriter, rapper, producer, record executive, label owner, and a host of other achievements like reality shows, artist development, multi platinum hits with his labelmates and other established music legends. There's more to influence than just longevity and being a regional Hip Hop King.

No one takes away from what you did with Kriss Kross, Brat, Xscape, etc...the question is what have you done in the last 6-8 years to even compare to that? Eventually you have to stop living in the past as it pertains to this music. We got all THAT great music from the 90's and early 2000's...what have you been able to stand on this decade? influential in·flu·en·tial adjective The definition of influential is someone or something that has an impact on or shapes how people act or how things occur. First, I wanted to put the definition in here because it seems some of yall don't understand what the word means by these comments. Second, he said "he was MORE influential on Atlanta RAP than Outkast". So why are people mentioning him working with Mariah, Jagged Edge, Anthony Hamilton, Xscape, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Keith Washington, Mahalia Jackson and everyone out of Rap. And people remember JD is a producer, when he's working with these artists he's doing his job as a producer not necessary influencing them. So when it comes to RAP, JD has had Kriss Kross, Bow Wow, Da Brat and Bone Crusher... I can't say JD was influential on Atlanta RAP that much at all, because even when he came out with Kriss Kross it seemed he did everything to distance himself from the south. If you go look at KK videos they dressed like NY/East Coast, the same with Xscape. JD was all about trying to be Puff and JayZ at that time, if anything he was a follower. It's 100 degrees down here, born and raised Southerns(not talking bout implants) don't wear Timbs and big ass coats, again go check out how it seems they repped more northern style than south. I would have to go listen and see if KK lyrics even hinted any taste of the South. So how can you influence Atlanta RAP, when it seems you didn't embrace the South until the crunk movement and that's when he signed Bone Crusher to attempt to ride that wave. Now, lets talk about Kast who was sho nuff ATL/GA/South from day one. They came out with the flip flops and socks, always repping ATL gear (Braves, Hawks, Falcons).... People, Hell even Southerns wasn't even saying "Dirty South" until Dungeon Family. I have seen/hear many interviews of Southern Artists, not just Atlanta, and when they get asked that same question; who did you come up on, who inspired you, who's your favorite? 9 out 10, Outkast is always one of the answers. I have yet to hear an Atlanta rapper mention JD. And Plus, JD will never be MORE influential than Outkast especially Andre 3000 because of one moment. When Outkast stood on that stage in 95, and 3000 said "The South Got Something To Say", basically standing up for the SOUTH not just ATL.... From Killer Mike to Pastor Troy, they all said that's the moment Atlanta took off. JD was like I'll dress my artist like NY/east coast to get along, let me try to sound like yall. Outkast/Dungeon Family was like naw, we got our own sound, flavor and style. May the best man win..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHvYZWN5Zdt4ack

What Jermaine neglects to recall is that the music he first had success with was not reppin' ATL. Sylk x Leather & Javier repped the city somewhat, but Kris Kross & Da Brat were modeled after Naughty By Nature & Snoop. They blew up and were not "Atliens". It wasnt until Outkast exploded that "Atlanta rap" got it's real respect.

JD had the magic to work with anyone. As far as the influence, he worked with a lot of artist and they rocked out of Atlanta. That's really not influence, more like if you want a hit then come to Atlanta. Outkast/Organized Noize developed the Atlanta sound. They made you want to come to Atlanta and learn about it. Bankhead, West End Mall, JJ Rib Shack Peachtree. You heard that stuff and you was like I want to go. That and the sound went together. To me that's influence.

I never understood why JD gets so much disrespect , icon and legend , he is the king of Atlanta

I think people are forgetting how BIG tlc was. I used to own record stores.. that tlc fan mail had one of the biggest opening weeks.. EVERYBODY bought that cd.. they were just as big as outkast at the time. Their peak rivals outkasts peak.. so if you take that into account and you add up everything else Jd did, I don't see how this is a debate.

Great Interview's like this show how mentally slow people are.... This man came BEFORE Outkast. Outkast was trying to sign to his label NOT the other way around. He NEVER said Kriss Kross was better than Outkast & all I see is stupid/moronic/dumb ass comments disrespecting him. Parents/Teacher's used to say people hear what they want to hear & in this case reading some of the comments idiots read the video title & instantly made judgement's with out listening. It's no wonder why so many of us are struggling in today's society!!!

JD has a valid point and gave empirical evidence to back it up. A lot of you are just in your feelings because you're letting your fandom cloud logic. Majority of you are frauds anyway because y'all weren't showing Outkast the appropriate amount of love they deserved when they were in their prime. I remember being in Atlanta and hearing many people from the city claim they were wack and were weirdos. You waited until they split and nostalgia to kick in to finally give them their props.

If u a real Atlanta person just agree to disagree they both was influential on the culture and helped shaped as well as set the city da brat is 1 hell of a rapper , jagged edge had some amazing skills no matter how how hard they or none influential they are or seems to be. They are great all the while. ATLANTA IS GREAT FOR MUSIC THE SOUTH STILL GOT SOMETHING TO SAY.

Just because you signed a whole bunch of short term artists, doesn't mean their music influenced the Rap Game as whole. OutKast has influenced top tier artists, like Lil Wayne, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, etc, not to mention other genres & artists on a global scale. JD just needs to be humble and let that go.

JD is great, but he and others are confusing being prolific with being the best. It’s like a person saying they are better at scoring because they have scored 20,000 points (basketball talk obviously) by average 21 points a game, when another player only has 17,500 career points and averaged 29.5 points and game retired early.
