Dear Chris. I purchased a couple of Amazing Spider-Man's in the 260s just earlier, ones with the 'Black Suit' of the Symbiote on the cover. The excitement over Venom is getting so strong now, that the era of the black suit any issues I feel is probably a thing which will be coming up soon enough. To me black suit covers for Spidey are probably good investments.

These are the books that everyone is already actively buying. The real blue chips are on no ones radar like Malibu sun 13, Action Comics 252 and other lower pop books . The majority on the list are low risk spec books that are more than likely at their 10 year peak other than the ninja turtles which is a great pickup. Remember a High pop makes a Fast drop.
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
I like the 252 pick, as DC hasn't had as much "spec hype" and that book is still holding throughout the covid era. I will have to overall disagree with the larger argument you're putting forth though. First, these books aren't on this list due to "spec," but rather precedent on holding value. Ironically, your Malibu Sun example is a book that - like many books over the last year or so - is down up to 40% depending on the grade brecause of the current market. Instead of trying to pick about the books on the list, a LARGE majority of the market was at a 10 year peak, topped off during COVID, and now correcting. But even in the correction, major keys - and keys on this list - still set new floors. Every book on this list can definitely be impacted with higher risk in the future if there ends up being movie or live action spec hype around them, but putting that aside, they are all valued due to the intrinsic properties and don't need "movie spec" to move them forward in the future.

I agree! The main reason I put it on this list is because the majority of collectors still refuse to look at it this way because of it's age. But as you stated, people don't realize that it is approaching 40 years old. It's held its ground and we need to give it the credit it deserves.

Spawn 1 is nowhere near a blue chip key simply because of value. Spawn one is like a grocery store stock like Albertson's. It's only worth about 50.00 a share, but it grows a couple of dollars every year, but still isn't very valuable and has been around for ever. Is Spawn 1 a good book to own despite the millions of copies printed? Yes. But with a 9.8 grade FMV anywhere around $300 to $400, and an average raw price of about $25, there is absolutely no way I or anyone else can put it on a "blue chip" key list.

It's a book that can definitely fall into the category, but I wouldn't call it a blue chip (yet) for two reasons: 1) The value just isn't there. Right now, FMV for a 9.8 is roughly $500. 2) Too volatile. The term blue chip means low risk, high gain, and 361 has been pretty high risk the last couple of years. A 9.8 FMV shot up from about $400 to $1000 just because of the movie. Now that the movie came and went, it's back down to $500. A book that loses 50% of its value practically overnight is in no way a blue chip key.

Uncanny X-Men should not be very expensive. There's 3,500 graded CGC 9.8, and 5,400 graded CGC 9.6. I just don't see the demand from comic collectors and investors to warrant paying more than $250 for high graded copies.
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
You bring up valid points of arguments in terms of what a ceiling can be for this book, but I'm going to challenge you. First, the book is already at a FMV average for high grade raw over $300, and 9.8 graded copies are average a FMV of $700. That's in the current downturn of a market. There is no indicator that says the demand of this book will be overshadowed by some accessive supply. UF4 has about 4k 9.8s and that book is still selling for over $1500 in a 9.8. So, right now, supply and demand IS indeed warranting much more than your number. I also want to ask, how did you come to the random number of $250? There is no algorithm, nor calculator that can throw a dollar amount on market value based on supply and demand. Lastly, you need to remember that supply isn't what simply exist, but rather supply is what exists on the MARKET at any given time. Out of those 3500 graded 9.8s, maybe 3,000 of them are being held by their owners. If only 500 are on the market, and 600 people want one, the price will continue to climb.
@jedimasterham2 Жыл бұрын
@@JernosComicsPopCulture It has to do with sold comparable key comics of the copper era, and specifically first of a series for a popular character. I get it if newsstands are selling for $750+ (due to scarcity), but the price of available direct edition copies should be significantly lower due to the oversupply. I think the unusually high prices sold are often due to hype, rather than due to any investment analysis. Behavioral economics probably explains this better.
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
@@jedimasterham2 Where I might agree with you is that I do believe a lot of comic prices are set by "hype," or reactionary behavior that doesn't drive an organic "market value." But even with that said, I still challenge your argument, simply because (1) how are you quantifying scarcity vs. oversupply? And (2), there aren't many comparable keys in the copper era to gauge correlations. Venom, Cable, Deadpool, are three of the most similar Marvel characters from that era, and two of those three sell for higher than 266. If you're comparing almost any other character from that era, it isn't a fair comparison (at least for Marvel characters).
@jedimasterham2 Жыл бұрын
@@JernosComicsPopCulture I can understand the popularity of Deadpool and Venom affecting sales prices, especially due to both characters receiving multiple movies. To clarify my position, I think Uncanny X-Men 266 is highly overvalued due solely to the quantity of direct edition, high graded copies, and is a poor investment (the exception being newsstand and SS). I think we will likely see a massive drop in value, possibly around 50-75% over a short period of time, especially if a movie is announced. If a movie is announced, it's likely the market will likely be oversupplied with product, which will cause a massive reduction in value for high grade copies. Personally, I think there's more investment value in rarer copies of popular key comics, like Canadian or UK prices variants, just due to scarcity and the principle of exclusivity.

Probably so, if you look at the price of golden age, at the time silver was worth next to nothing, then it exploded up to golden age prices, then bronze age did the same decade later, so I'd say copper keys will be next.

Agreed.

Price guide numbers and evaluations don't seem to be very accurate. If you go on eBay, what these books actually bring is different.
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
Different markets often bring different values. Going solely with eBay sold is negligent because the market price people are willing to pay on eBay is different than what they are willing to pay at an lcs, or a con, Or on Whatnot, etc. Always use more than one source. I don't trust GoCollect, and I also don't trust auction house sales. Covrprice has the most comprehensive fmv's, because they are real sales, pulled from eBay, mycomicshop, auctions and more.

Nah, nah. Ya gotta pick another #1. You can’t call a blue chip key, a blue chip of the future. It’s already one. lol ASM 300 is very close to being considered blue chip, so I still agree with that book on the list.
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
lol agreed. TMNT made the list simply because of its age, and people not giving it the blue chip label simply because of that.

Thong wearing Gambit will never be a blue chip book plus everyone know that's his second appearance. You must own 20 copies of that book cause your the only person I see claiming that's a first appearance haha

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I own ZERO copies of that book, but nice try. Hope your troll attempt has validated your existence.

Coincidentally acquired 9.8s of Ultimate Fallout 4 and Amazing Spider-Man 252 this year. Before I saw this video. Just felt like natural buys, like culturally, they're something special for a lot of people in my generation. Cool to see how much they're valued from your vid! :D

Do you actually believe those are blue chip?
@JernosComicsPopCulture2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it if I didn't believe it.

Great vid. I think a future Blue chip has to be Something is Killing the Children #1. The first real test for this book will be if the Netflix show is bad but it doesn’t affect the value of the book or the series in general.
