IDK how you’d do it but you should break down direct vs newsies. The bar code sells for ungodly amounts as compared to direct, even for books that were printed more for sale at newsstands (pre 1986).

I’m a lucky guy. I have six out of 10 that I purchased as a kid. However, I missed out on the first printing of TMNT #1. I have the second printing. I could’ve purchased the first printing maybe a few months later but in 1980 something it would’ve cost me $200 which to my young self might as well been a million bucks. For years afterwards in my LCS they had it on the wall for $200. When I finally started earning my own money I hoped the price would come down but it never did. I’d never have guessed that $200 was a bargain.

If you're going to invest in 1980s books then you're better off picking up the Canadian price variant copies of the same books. They are scarcer than the direct versions and even the newsstand versions that appeared in the usa. Getting high grade copies is practically impossible with many issues.

Yes the variants are good. But this is books more general masses as opposed to more obscure or scarce

the 2 most influential were Dark Knight Returns and TMNT for sure....Dark Knight and Crisis on Infinite Earth reinvented the entire DC line, modernizing it and drawing in a new audience who has shunned it due to weak story lines (old saying DC=Dumb Comics)...TMNT gave rise to lots of new talents and directions, which climaxed around 1989 w/ X rated/ultra violent series like Grips, etc, which marked the end of its run. late 80's to early 90's belonged to Marvel once more w/ their revamping of characters like Hulk, Spiderman, Wolverine/Xmen...Sadly, the Comic Book universe turned into pure greed/silliness, leaving many core fans disillusioned and (broke from buying so many titles each month after month just to keep up). Marvel went bankrupt, DC went nowhere, and many independents never got back into the groove after Valiant/Image imploded....

Now when your talking about high grade comics sold. So means slab. Those are rare Ie high price. Now if u get a low grade that u thought was high. And re submit 2 another grader. Does that increase the value. If the comic is graded higher. Or they missed something? I got a whole lot of ? And not enough money 2 roll the dice. But. Am willing 2 participate.
