Jerome, for at least a quarter of the weapons, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: BFGs, snipers, botherers, fleets, skeets, deceivers, rams, bouncy balls, rage, splitters, bumper bombs, rapid-fire, quicksand, fighter jet, tangent fire, clovers, bounce strikes, breaker madness, birds, technically jackpot and ALL UPGRADED VERSIONS OF THE WEAPONS, these weapons and many more do less damage if you use them at too close of a range, and increase their damage at a linear rate (per unit you are away from the target) until they reach their "maximum normal damage". For example, a sniper does maximum damage of 100, but if you 100, 86 rule the shot, it may do 67 damage instead, and crits are affected by damage reverse dropoffs, so if that sniper crit, it would do 134 damage instead of ignoring the damage reverse dropoff and doing 200. This is why quicksand can do 1 damage per sand bit, but at longer ranges does three, and breaker mania can do 60 damage despite a good spread because they only would do 4 damage per hit instead of 6. Multi-hit attacks are particularly screwed with the reverse damage dropoff mechanic.

The only reason jerome keeps winning is that they are higher level than most of there opponents. Which is a big advantage Edit: also the enemies are having trouble shooting at them so some are still learning and some are experts. Also other edit: the enemies keep quiting
