Yes, Antonioni's "L'eclisse" is one of those arthouse classics that manage to elicit widely differing reactions from viewers - like Kubrick's "2001" and Godard's "Two or Three Things I Know About Her". You can't watch it with the expectations one might have of a conventional drama - it's more like viewing a moving painting of modern art in a museum, a kind of cinematic Rorschach test (of course Alain Delon sweetens the deal considerably). You had a very sensitive and intelligent response to it, putting into words what I had merely felt - the influence of horror. Excellent reviews of this and all the others!

The China Syndrome is one of the most suspenseful and intense movies of the 1970s. Yes, the 70s, the era of Jaws, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, Network, All the President’s Men, The Deer Hunter, Chinatown, The Godfather, and The Conversation. There are 3 movies I think are severely underrated, since they came out next to so many more popular films in the 70s. The China Syndrome, The Parallax View, and Midnight Express. Classics.

"Romey," you're really speaking my language this time around. I refer specifically to Countdown and China Syndrome. I recalled enjoying Countdown, not great, but I found it to be a reasonably entertaining snapshot of the Cold War tension we were feeling about the Space Race at that time. As for China Syndrome -- so right about Lemmon, he walked away with that movie. "There was a vibration!" So good at pretty much anything, from The Apartment (I rate that even higher than Some Like It Hot) to Glengarry Glen Ross. I also enjoy checking the owls and I'm impressed by the big guy standing beside your right elbow. Always a pleasure, looking forward, and owl be seeing you.

Ms Weiselberry, this evening I viewed the Season 2 Episode 15 of the Invaders TV Show. I was astonished by the writers inserting the apparent death of Vincent in a fistfight with the Aliens: Vincent fell in high voltage electricity. Even more intriguing to me was how Karen Black’s fictional poet father bartered Vincent’s life for his captured and held Alien leader. And then, for the first time I learn the Aliens possess a machine capable of infusing some measure of amperage current into Vincent’s momentarily deceased body and actually restores Vincent’s vital life force! An unprecedented happening up to this episode!

Regarding the movie *COUNTDOWN:* During the 1960s, there were proposals to use modified Gemini spacecraft as lunar landers. Both to land Americans on the Moon before 1970, and do so before the Soviets did.

The China Syndrome got a boost from the Three Mile Island nuclear plant accident that happened only twelve days after the movie was released.

Yes The China Syndrome WAS Jack Lemmon's movie, he had earned a academy nomination for best actor nomination going up against Peter Sellers in Being There, Roy Scheider (Jaws) for All That Jazz (now there's an interesting movie I recommend), Dustin Hoffman, Kramer vs Kramer (in which he won), and Al Pacino in And Justice For All. I will be watching an oldie with Lemmon and Jason Robards in The War Between Men And Women 1972 with Barbara Harris after I finish the first season of Westworld from HBO based on the movie on DVD from the library. The show is fair with a little Blade Runner and The Truman Show meaning in it. The mystery an conspiracy of the theme park is the best storyline. I still reccomend it. As always good video and I hope to see some horror movies on your next list, it is the season.

Of course with Jason Robards. Raise The Titanic was released at the same time as The Final Countdown in 1980. I remember one critic say both movies were for at best for navy recruitment. Sadly the critic didn't like either movies.

Absolutely no question The China Syndrome rests almost entirely on Lemmon with decent support from Fonda and a rather nice spot from Wilford Brimley (as usual). Douglas is neither here nor there. An absolute must watch for Lemmon.

Oh and Blood on the Moon is a fairly decent western with perhaps a rep slightly in excess of what it deserves. There's actually quite a bit of talent deployed on this film and I found it slightly disappointing.

Of these, I've seen only 'The China Syndrome', which was a decent film with a good perf by Lemon, Now 'Cry Terror; definitely has potential for me and I'll keep my eye out for it, it seems to be right up my alley, and I always dig Steiger (wow, really giving away my age with the use of 'dig') Nice set of reviews, but did I miss Part 1? I'll have to check.

@@Weiselberry Now, I don't comment 100% of the time (maybe 90%) but i DID see Pt 1 though it was late at night and went to bed right after. As usual you inspired me to keep my eyes peeled for a good few of the films you reviewed, notably 'Invisible Man' ,'The Host', and 'Richard Jewell' (isn't Eastwood remarkably consistent in his ability to keep giving us quality films?). 'Enemy of the People' I saw by chance while flipping through the channels and it took me a few seconds to realize that was McQueen behind all that hair. I agree with your assessment, the film was ok, a bit draggy at times, but McQueen's perf was on target in a role outside his usual milieu. And btw, your hair looks great!

In your video describing L'eclisse(?) at the 6:12 mark you show a wide exterior shot that shows a rounded tower in the skyline that looks like the same one in The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price. Were those movies shot in the same city?

The Last Man on Earth was filmed in Rome, so it could very well be the same.

I guess I should have Googled it before asking you. I searched on water tower images in Rome and up came II Fungo, the mushroom, completed in the 1940s. It seems to me though that The Last Man on Earth was made to look like it was in an American city. Ive seen five out of nine ( does a little imaginary Walter Huston gold prospector jig :) I'm excited!, if I'm lucky it's around about three from your list that I would've seen lol. Invisible Stripes, The China Syndrome, Blood on the Moon, Countdown and Le' Eclisse are the films I've seen and liked them all, at first I didn't know what to make of Le 'Eclisse, it is very gloomy and dour in terms of how it looks at a relationship but I found that it's stayed with me, I'll think about its strange quiet imagery especially if I find myself walking in an area with nobody about it'll randomly pop into my head, during this pandemic at times too, perhaps the unhappiness and disconnection the film conveys through Vttoria is a reminder to not let oneself surrender to those feelings, that's me being optimistic, it's probably about how love is a lie and when you reach for companionship you'll find yourself alone looking confused staring up an empty Italian street lol. Initially I found William Holden in Invisible Stripes to be very distracting to watch, Holden did look so different, the William Holden that appeared in Sabrina with Bogart and the Holden who appeared in Invisible Stripes with Bogart looked like two very different actors, I couldn't believe it and thought I misread the titles, i could imagine Holden greeting Bogart during Sabrina table-read with " It's great to work with you again Bogey and Bogart replying with " I remember the Germans wore Grey and Ilsa wore blue, but kid, I don't remember working with you lol. I really want to see Cry Terror! and Night Flight, I've recently rewatched On The Waterfront so another Rod Steiger film sounds about perfect and I really enjoy films about roguish pilots and perilous flights along with remote landing spots like Only Angels Have Wings, Ceiling Zero and Air Mail, I'm even a fan of Spielberg's Always so hopefully I will get to see Night Flight sometime soon. I've gone on again. You're an outstanding reviewer and your film choices are always so great, so enjoyable. Wishing you continued good health during these times, and Joey the adorable Otter lol. ~ Thank you Ms Weiselberry ~

I occasionally talk about musicals. I saw that movie on tv a long time ago with my mom. I don't remember it much, but I know it was generally panned by the critics (though my mom liked it). I'm partial to the original 1937 non-musical version with Ronald Colman, myself. :)

`Jerome` In my opinion (such as it is!) You just haven't experienced all Spectrum of films until you undergo at least one of the "Carry On" series. This is a Genre of film from all your reviews that I surmise you have probably not even heard of. My guess is you would not `get` any of them- but I do think you should be aware of their existence! A series that matched the number of `Bond` films-and some in UK out grossed said `Bonds` Anyway- Hope you might come to blows with one of them one day!

It's best to approach the movie with an open mind. The audio quality is poor and it's in sore need of a restoration. I agree it's hard to get used to Scott at first, but having gone through the movie again scene by scene, I've come to appreciate it. It has some fine moments.
