Hitting the 6 on the right side, imparts a bit of right spin onto it, and throws the one ball to the left. That's how i have always understood throw shots, and it has worked for me.

The main effect on the 1-ball here is primarily due to the friction-induced throw from the collision dynamics, not the transferred spin. Whether you hit the 6 full-on, or cut from the left or from the right - aiming to hit it towards the end rail - you can achieve the same effect on the 1-ball. This is because the impact and resulting friction at the point of contact are what primarily influence the throw. The transferred spin on the 6-ball, whether left or right, has a negligible effect in this scenario since the fundamental mechanics are driven by how the balls collide and not by the spin.
