I’ve been critical of Duvall but I’ve always known what he meant to Jerry and respected that. Crazy to know he’s been singing laynes parts this long.. Layne probably even heard him sing Alice In Chains stuff before, I know he went to see Jerry at least once, one of his last “public” appearances. Jerry asked him to come up on stage but he declined.. must have respected Duvall.

It sounds like them but then it doesn’t. It doesn’t sound bad, but Down In A Hole means a lot to me. More than I can express with words. It means every feeling you got when you heard it the first time and heard Layne’s raspy voice as his heart was breaking through the track and realizing it. That can never be replicated. R.I.P. Layne Staley.

Kudos to you Jerry. There isn't anything harder in music then to sing or even listen to your close friends music not long from their passing. Peace to the fallen & Power to the people.

PintOfSam Media POSM PGC almost all of AiC's songs were written by Jerry so... its really his songs not Layne.
@PianoGirl766 жыл бұрын
@@rumblefish9 Actually Layne wrote almost 50% of the songs. They all made those songs unique by adding their different talents. It was a group effort.
@Nevernothing81844 жыл бұрын
@@rumblefish9 actually no layne wrote quite a few songs perhaps you should look it up. Jerry might of did the instrumentals but the lyrics were all layne on alot of songs.

I seen AIC a couple moths ago and can say Duvall has grown a lot with his vocals since this performance. I was impressed and anyone who knows me and how I feel about AIC and just music in general can tell you it takes a lot to impress me musically, especially when it has to do with a band/music I cherish and hold close to my heart. I think every AIC fans wishes Layne was here on stage with the guys and there will never be replacing him and his talents...ever... period! But I have to say I am so thankful we still get to go see a iconic band live still that has been a huge part of our lives and many memories through the years.

I ain't no rook, they've been my fav band since I was a kid and still are but this video man gave a new prospective. Laynes voice was so gritty and so awesome but it had alot to do with the dope I feel. No not feel i know and now I understand why I appreciate will as the guy now bc it's like layne laid down the path but that path was so heavy it led him to his demise, and William's cleaner tone it's like a reminder. Like remember how awesome he was well that can only last so long and so I'm here to continue this story and finish this story and il be around to see it through.

Duvall is a nice guy and very talented but I agree that he's not a good match for AIC. They needed somebody with a grittier voice. Duvall's voice is too "clean"
@MrTechselect6 жыл бұрын
brando92711 Jerry didn't get Duvall there because he sounds like Layne or because they needed the certain voice style. He's there because he's a better songwriter and Phantom Limb is proof of that. Jerry didn't get Duvall to be another Layne, he's from a songwriting, vocal and guitar-playing perspective another Jerry. They switch between playing lead and rhythm and honestly he adds more depth to the overall sound. Layne's dead. Duvall has been friends and touring with Jerry since 2001. Longer than even Layne did. People need to move on.

You never had a chance, I had the same wish the last time he performed july 3rd 1996 3 hours from where I live and I was 7 at the time, however they still are my favorite ever. And I've seen them live 4 times since 2010 cant wait for number 5 cuz Duvall may not be layne but just see it for yourself its aic.
@MLCrow6 жыл бұрын
MrTechselect DuVall a better songwriter than Layne? What do you mean? ..then you wrote also...DuVall is from a "songwriting" perspective another Jerry? C'mon please, dude, be real. Honestly DuVall didn't contribute much from that point of view. Jerry remains BY FAR the driving AIC force...basically AIC is Jerry's band now (even more). In my opinion DuVall is a very good vocalist, a non problematic person, very professional...but he is not charismatic and his stage presence is nothing special (imo)...anyway... I still like AIC ofc.

when another person harmonizes with Jerry and it sounds like AIC is when you realize that Jerry was the Core abd brain of the band and that he has all the right to continue it... layne is resting in peace, the rest have to keep on living

technically he was AiC since Jerry wrote majority of the lyrics and all the music.

the band wrote the music together... I don't see one guy doing it all.. sorry bro. if that were possible I believe they would of skipped AIC and started with the solo project and not have to deal with a vocalist that couldn't perform at the end of his career. I love jerry and layne they BOTH wrote for AIC.

@@Nevernothing8184 Yeah, you're right. Layne wrote (&/or co-wrote) alot (lyrics). Layne wrote ALONE (not considering the ones he co-wrote) the lyrics for about 40% of the songs...talking about AIC (Layne era) only ofc. If you have the original studio albums, EPs, compilation albums,... you can check it out by yourself. Some people wrongly think (without checking) it's almost all Jerry.
