I really wish I could've met this man. He wrote so many of my favorite filmscores.

ShreadTheWeapon, I knew him. He was my scuba diving partner on Catalina Island back in the 1960s. Fine gentleman.

Goldsmith gave The Sand Pebbles a beautiful, brilliant, wonderful score, just what the doctor ordered. His music really elevated the picture to much greater heights than it might otherwise have attained, and gave it just the deep, emotional impact that it needed.

"The Sand Pebbles" is blessed with a superb, emotive Goldsmith score. It's one of my favourites.

Having always admired this man's gift, his music would enhance great movies like ' The Sand Pebbles ', which I went to see as a boy. In the years since, I notice that if you like the music in a film - 9 times out of 10, it's this guys!! Prolific and always delivering his best!!

A great movie made all the better with Jerry Goldsmith’s score. It literally shaped my life and has remained a constant memory. There is no movie that I am more fond of.

I used to snag the TV guide out of the mailbox and scan the WTBS movies for the next month. You can bet I was "sick" when the Sand Pebbles was going to show.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s in my dad's movie theatre. He got all the promo soundtracks and started giving them to me when I was just 4 years old. Goldsmith, Williams, Shire and others were my staple listening even in elementary school. I was probably just six years old when PAPPILON came out, but sat in the theatre many times just listening to Goldsmith's beautiful score.

Goldsmith un auténtico genio de las más diversas bandas sonoras de la historia del cine.

Many years ago, he and I were frequent scuba diving partners off Catalina Island, southern California. I had no idea who he was. Very few people were diving, and we went with whom we could.

Maurice Jarre ended up doing Grand Prix. It's a heroic score, but it would've been interesting to hear the intimate complexities Goldsmith would've brought to it.

Absolutely adore this theme by Goldsmith
@pp3122 жыл бұрын
I actually prefer the "Chinese" theme, which is used in the alternate Overture. Tadlow Music did some Sand Pebbles music on an album mostly featuring The Blue Max and used the Chlnese theme in their Overture.

Yes Elwy Yost but it was on TV Ontario not CBC. Saturday Night at the Movies was a classic show hosted by Mr Yost for years, with interviews like this

Jerry Goldsmith said The Sand Pebbles got 12 Oscar nominations. It only got 8, but he is right that it won none.

Because Robert Wise was honoured with the Irving G Thalberg Award in the same year, and the Academy had already given him the Oscar the year before for The Sound of Music.
