It's sad that both Jerry and Joel are no longer with us.

Jerry Goldsmith. The best ever. No one comes close to his genius. A creative force that left a huge gaping hole in the film industry.

agreed. I mean next to Gene the creator Jerry the composer is one of the all time greats that made trek music great and worth listening to.

Only Williams comes close, and even then, Goldsmith gets the nod because of his experimentation with synthesizer and percussion to create bizarre sounds.

Voyager theme makes me cry every time I hear it. When the ship goes through the asteroid belt and there’s chimes. He was the best. I know he did a lot more and I’m getting into it. Great composer. Up there with Horner and Williams.

@kthx1138 : Only *Herrmann* comes close. Williams wasn't even close to the *scorer* that Jerry is -- and that was what separated him from his "peers" (to the extent that he had any). Unlike Williams, Jerry treated movies as the synergetic, organic whole that they are, developing his whole score from a single thematic nucleus (as opposed to taking some patchwork quilt-like approach). In short: Jerry was the best musical storyteller we've ever known and could take us on a musical journey like no one else.

He was such a great composer. I only wish he won more Oscars for his work. Planet Of The Apes, Sand Pebbles, Alien, Star Trek The Motion Picture, and Basic Instinct were some of his greatest work in composing music for movies.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture has been the most amazing, intense movie music I've ever heard in my life. Nothing else can compare! It really conveys an otherworldly, utterly alien and mysterious setting in every way. With Star Trek First Contact as a close second, very intense and ballsy-sounding.

If there's one man who defines Star Trek it is Jerry Goldsmith he wrote every single song that is the theme to every single Star Trek series from first to last. As we celebrate 50 years of Star Trek we say thank you to Jerry Goldsmith who wrote these wonderful songs that tell the story of Star Trek.
@Blueduck7057 жыл бұрын
Well, he didn't write the them for the first series. That was Alexander Courage. Are there songs in Star Trek? I can't think of any.
@FLAME45646 жыл бұрын
Lets not forget James Horner aswell who did most of TWOK themes.
@jslasher14 жыл бұрын
@@Blueduck705 There are NO 'songs' in any of the "Star Trek" episodes. People are latching on to the iTunes platform which incorrectly refers to anything that is music, wether instrumental or not, as a 'song'.

Damn this video hit right in the feels. And I hate using that phrase. What an Era we had as kids growing up in the 80s and 90s with so much Star Trek greatness and with behind the scene geniuses we probably take for granted any other time, like Jerry, who are just as critical and I dare say the better half of the total package that we know as "Star Trek" on TV and film.

I knew who John Williams was, because of Star Wars. How could a fairly serious Trekkie not really know who Jerry Goldsmith is/was. I do now. Thanks for posting this great tribute. It was moving.

1982 was the year I warmed up to Jerry Goldsmith, when he created two spellbinding scores, Poltergeist and First Blood. Then of course I went back and discovered his whole catalog, including Star Trek-The Motion Picture. The power pouring through the mind-meld of his full composition is staggering!

His embodiment of work represents a multitude of facettes of what is behind his genius. The only sad part is that he never cared for his health much. I'm looking forward to seeing you, Jerry, when I have to leave this world being with my father in heaven.

I know this is an old video. But there’s something not genuine about how Rick Berman describes the music, simply because he fired Ron Jones for EXACTLY the same reasons. According to interviews from both, they got along for the most part, but Jones’s scores were too noticeable and melodic. He’s b.s.-ing the audience in this video.
