Linda Gail said that Jerry hated this song but he sure did a great job with it. No matter what he sings it's always wonderful. There's no one like Jerry Lee. Too bad he was targeted by the media for such a long time. Too much unprofessional journalism in this world. Thank God we still can hear his music. R.I.P. Jerry Lee.

Wow.... LInda Gail is absolutely drop dead gorgeous in this performance! What a fox she was in '69! Her skin on her face looks perfect. (Heavy breathing...) Elsewhere, Jerry Lee really turns in a top of line vocal on this. He wrings every last note of feeling that he get out of the lyric. In my book, they didn't come any better than this for country duets.

haven't had the pleasure of meeting the killer himself but met Linda Gail lewis on a number of occasions. firstly she is as amazing as her big brother on the piano and also what a fantastic lady . no airs and graces about this woman always happy to say hello and sign autographs and get her picture taken with the public an extremely pleasant lady :-)

This is clearly one of the best bluegrass duets of all time. Lovely. Check out the studio version too. Jerry Lee does Bill Monroe style Tenor on the chorus and Linda Gail and Jerry Lee do lovely lead vocals on each one of the verses. Penny Jay, bluegrass musician (Jimmy Martin band) wrote this. Surprisingly it was never recorded by Bill Monroe or even Jimmy Martin - but this version makes up for it. Jerry Lee, Bill and Jimmy are 3 of my very favourites.

Not taking anything away from this, but Jim Reeves and Deborah Allen did a damn good version of it in 1979. Their voices were electronically combined, as Jim's had too have been done prior to 1964 (his year of death) and Deborah Allen was just a kid.

Given JL's track record with family members, the title of this song is probably why he sung it so convincingly when singing with his sister! Great singer though, and his sister is pretty and good. His cousin, the disgraced evangelist Jerry Swaggert is a great singer too- must be in the genes.

He died in 1973 (aged 19!). As for recordings, I've yet to hear them, but he did perform at the Live at The International 1970 shows. So there's recordings "in the vaults". Incidentally I requested this song in 1987, and Jerry responded by saying "Don't Let Me Cross Over was a hillbilly piece of crap!" (according to Linda Gail, Jerry hates this song).
