I've never seen the film or heard Ewan McGregor, so I can't possibly say that he did a poor job. I'm not thrilled with what I've heard from him in the previews for the film. What I am saying is that, for me, Jerry Orbach is the greatest Lumiere I could imagine. I'm not going to get into a word war with you. You and I obviously have different tastes. People aren't going to agree on everything all the time. Let's just leave it at that. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone.

God, I miss him. Such style and class. Whip smart, too. He spoke fluent Spanish, was a brilliant pool shark, and wrote dozens of poems. I just finished reading the book his late wife wrote about him called, "Remember that I Love You " , if you haven't read it, I really recommend it!

2:10 I love the way his face lights up in the finale as the music swells and cheers start pouring and he is suddenly really caught up in the moment of such a great performance. I don’t know him from anything other than this movie but this feels like a man who truly thrives on a stage during a huge showstopping number like this. Seeing the pure thrill and joy on his face during the last lines and during his bow makes me always feel good and come back to this video

Although as much as I thought Ewan McGregor was a good Lumiere I would always love Jerry as Lumiere he's just Lumiere to me. He made the original Lumiere sound French when he's not foreign, Ewan on the other hand is from Scotland and his Lumiere sounded Spanish lol. but he has said he's never seen the original Beauty of the Beast before taking on the role so maybe he didn't know Lumiere was suppose to be French idk because he has done a French accent before

Jerry hadn’t joined L&O yet, when he did I thought ‘Why is he doing this?’ But that was what he wanted to do, and he’d done a lot of TV before that. Remember when he was a defense attorney on L&O? I loved the Broadway play that opened 2 years later. But Jerry’s voice will always be Lumiere for me. Nobody can top him in any role.

I worked at my local movie theater when the recent Beauty and the Beast remake came out. And as soon as this number came on, part of me was hearing Jerry/ Lenny instead of Ewan

I know, I kept thinking the exact same thing, but I gave the remake song a chance. I still wasn't disappointed, but I made sure my mom know that Ewan MacGregor was not Jerry Orbach. She said to me "Well, no one is ever going to be him, but please keep an open mind."
