Nick is holding onto the three game skid for dear life. The narrative that purdy is unable to win without Deebo or Trent is just nonsense. There was a bad weather game, a concussion game, and terrible defensive play from the niners defense throughout the entire three game losing streak. Purdy had his struggles during the stretch but there was much more to it.

@rhmayer1 9 ай бұрын
@@learn905 Yes. They lost the Browns game (the 1st loss of the 3) by 2 points. The kicker missed TWO FG's. So no question Brock didn't lose that one at all. Brock played well in all 3 games except throwing INT's right after very hard sacks that, after the Vikings game (2nd game of the 3 losses, lost by 5 points with Brock continuing to move the ball decently despite the 2 INT's) turned out after the game to be a concussion. The protocol prevented Brock from having a full week of practice going into the Bengals game. The 3rd loss, against the Bengals, again saw Brock's performance take a dip after a hard sack that I think was another mini-concussion, and he then threw a couple INT's. But again afterwards he was moving the ball OK, still playing decently. That was a 14 point loss, but Brock closed the gap a few times. It was a 14 point gap for less than 8 minutes of the whole game. Btw, the Vikings game saw Kurt Cousins' career best performance I believe (best I've ever seen) and the Bengals game was at Joe Burrow's peak performance of this season - between his injuries. The 3 losses were more due to poor 49er defensive play (poor tackling, playing too soft against receivers all game long, dumb penalties, etc.) than due to Brock's performance. Nick keeps blaming Brock for those losses. It's obvious Nick didn't watch those 3 games.

David wasn't wrong though - Lamar's 10 yard split: 1.55 Purdy's 10 yard split: 1.54 Brees' career passer rating: 98.4 Brees best year passer rating: 115.7 Purdy's career passer rating: 115.4 Purdy's passer rating this year: 119 (on pace for 5th best in history) Let's not forget this dude just turned 23 years old and has played 19 regular season games as a starter, 14 with a training camp as a starter, and was coming off a devastating injury to his throwing arm in the NFCCG that they weren't sure would be healed in time for the regular season. Not to mention the whole Trey Lance situation during camp. I mean say what you want about his weapons and all but it's not exactly a wild statement to say that he's actually going to get better at playing QB with more time and experience and less adversity. Nick talks about Brock like he's some finished product with absolutely no room for growth and that it's all downhill from here as though the hammer of reality will be coming along soon to demolish him. Still waiting for that Nick.

In 1981, Joe Montana went 13-3 and had 3 bad games. Was 1-2 to start the season. And later lost to Browns in a tight 15-12 game. He would later win the Super Bowl. It took Joe Montana 10 seasons. 10 SEASONS and 3 Super Bowl wins for Joe Cool to win his First MVP. Despite having 3 and arguably 4 seasons with MVP numbers. In 1987, Joe Montana played 13 games 10-1 record as a Starter with 31 pass tds 13 ints 1 rush td. SF went 13-2 in total (shortened season). You might say 13 games disqualified him. But John Elway won MVP playing 12 games an 8-3-1 record and 19 pass tds 12 ints and 4 rush tds. And later got the brakes beat off him from the Washington Redskins in the Super Bowl. The Dot Purdy hate has happened before. It was a mistake then and it's a mistake now.

Nick only has himself to blame for being in this position. There would be no huge attention on him & his takes on Purdy if he had just given the guy SOME flowers earlier this year. Instead, his literal quote in the off-season was "The Purdy downfall is inevitable". He's bet against him at every opportunity & the FEW times he's complimented him, he sounds like he has a gun to his head & is reading from a cue card. That's why people harp on him so much for his Purdy takes. We're just continually amazed by how stingy he is with giving Brock ANY credit.

@@phantoMpikachu But the problem is that he gives way too little credit & has consistently had a a smug negative attitude towards him. Most of what Purdy has done, Nick has reduced to “it’s all bc of the Avengers”. He’s reducing what Brock is doing. What I hate about discussions involving Montana, is that somehow, it is never brought up that in a three-year span (1985, 86, and 87) the Niners were one and done in the playoffs. In those three losses, Montana threw for a combined 52% completion with ZERO TDs and 4 INTs. That's right, for three straight playoff games, Joe went without a TD. It doesn't mean Joe wasn't great, but it means it's definitely OK if Purdy or anyone else has some down moments, because it happens to everyone.

Some combination? The WHOLE point that Nick is making is that Purdy has had CMC AND Deebo AND Kittle AND Aiyuk AND Trent Williams his entire career (except for that 3 game stretch). Guess who also looked like an MVP when he had that? Jimmy Garoppalo. How has he done WITHOUT that amazing group of players? Not very well. It's crazy watching what I guess is 49ers' fans just ignore this whole point. I mean this is why the 49ers are super bowl favorites. You guys should be happy that you have this amazing cast of players and that Purdy can play his part as a good quarterback. That doesn't mean he's the MVP. I mean if you were to have a player get injured, who would you rather it be Purdy or Trent Williams? Purdy or CMC? Given the disparity in your starters and backups at those positions it's very likely you'd rather have Purdy being the one that's hurt over Williams or CMC. That's because in the Shanahan system Williams and CMC are more irreplaceable than Purdy is. How is that the MVP?

The funny thing is Nick keeps referencing the 3 game losing streak to knock Purdy and he didn't play that badly. He threw some picks but he also played well enough for them to have a shot to win every one of those games. The kicker missed a 41 yarder that would've beat Cleveland and the defense didn't play well at all during that stretch.

Purdy threw for 365 and led the team in rushing against Cincinnati. He led a game winning drive against the Browns. He had a concussion at the end of the Minnesota game, even after completing 70% of his passes up to the concussion. Purdy was bare minimum good enough, if not more than good enough in those three games. It was the DEFENSE that lost those games. Not Brock. Nick wright fundamentally doesn't understand football if he thinks Brock Purdy is AVERAGE. Because from all we've seen, he's wayyyy better than average. Also, the 10 yard burst is a literal fact. It is a FACT that Brock's 10 yard split is just as fast as cmc and Lamar. And realistically, that's all you need as a QB. Moving within 10 yards. The people who have WATCHED THE FILM and PLAYED THE POSITION with high IQ all resoundingly agree that Brock Purdy is BARE MINIMUM a top 10 quarterback. Nick needs to stop. He's WRONG

It is a stylistic comparison not a "who is better" comparison. Purdy plays QB in a similar style to Montana. Accuracy, footwork, timing throws, cool under pressure and kind of undersized. Montana was tall enough but sometimes weighed 185 pounds. Lamar Jackson and Colin Kaepernick play a similar style (and had the same offensive coordinator) but Lamar is obviously much better.
