The greatest receiver of all time talks about catching the football in his fingers.
Science shows that Jerry Rice catches the football with his fingers.

No doubt! Met him at an Airport in 2012. He stopped and took pictures with my entire Army Reserve unit. He even took out some Super Bowl rings and let some of us wear them in pics!! I was the first one to get his picture and didn't want to hold him up. Then everyone in my unit knew he was Jerry Rice 😂. They stopped him but he didn't mind at all.

Jerry Rice is hands down ,the greatest wide receiver I've ever seen. He was a great route runner;he had phenomenal hands...he rarely dropped a pass that hit him in his hands...and he was a great blocker and teammate. Very humble for a super star.

I remember reading an article about special forces training instructors (who were WW2 combat veterans). The trainee had expected the instructors to have really nasty voices. But instead, they were calm, spoke softly but clearly, and were always teaching. Just non-stop teaching, with patience and good humor. Hollywood just makes us believe that "bad-asses" have to talk a certain way, screaming, ranting. That's just useless posturing by guys trying to aspire to leadership but are merely covering up their inadequacies. A true "bad-ass" doesn't have to posture. He simply *is*. The sharpest knives are the quietest.

It didn't hurt that for 20 years he did "The Hill" and would work until sundown almost every practice to get everything in his routes picture perfect. I do agree with you that Carter had better hands, but it's not by much. They both made some great catches and were prototypical possession receivers.
@tiatrips

To validate your point, when the 49ers played the Broncos in the Super Bowl, rice caught a touchdown where he bounced off of Bronco safety Steve Atwater to get into the end zone. I bring this up as validation because the 49ers knew that the Broncos were not a tackling secondary; they were more concerned with hitting. Rice caught the pass, absorbed and bounced off Atwater's hit, and just about walked into the end zone with Atwater on the ground looking around for him.

Catching bricks made your hands strong, Jerry. That's why you can catch the ball with your fingers, without letting it bounce off your palms. You're sort of right, but you discount the strength you built up catching bricks, even though catching a football is different technique.

Rice was definitely the best and Moss is number 2 for sure, i cant say Moss was better than Rice but it would have been interesting to see what Moss could have done if he was catching passes from two of the greatest qbs of all time in montana and young, and you see what Moss did when he finally played with a hall of fame qb.

True, CJ is better than JR. But i believe that when CJ's career is over, JR will still stand as the best WR ever to play the game. Jerry was productive almost his entire career (20 yrs!!) and he played most of it in a league that wasn't quarterback-driven, unlike today. Meaning, CJ, like many other great WRs today, has had the advantage of playing in an era with, not only extremely talented QBs, but a league that favors the passing game as well. Let's see if CJ will ever have 22,895 rec yards.
