I personally admire Jerry even though I acknowledge he isn't everyone's cup of tea. He doesn't feel a responsibility to always be groveling in platitudes and thankfulness. He recoils at the idea he has reached his station because of luck...even though I am sure he realizes he got some breaks. He offers a product and you are either a buyer or not...if so.. great.. and if not he will happily move on down the road to the next thing. I like the fact he almost always speaks with honesty even if there is often a little contempt just under the surface. At least it's real.

I think one should intellectually recognize that luck is literally everything but also recognize that adopting that kind of personal attitude can be detrimental (at least to some people) because it justifies laziness or other forms of toxic or limiting mindsets. It’s kind of like Hitch’s quote on free will, “I believe in free will, because I have no choice.” It’s a weird paradox that many of us have just come to accept as one of the oddities/quirks of life we’ll just have to come to accept (maybe it’ll be resolved some day, who knows, if you look at the human intellectual progress over the last few thousand years it’s clear that saying things are impossible is foolish).
@tgwilber6 ай бұрын
Getting to where he's at because of luck would be like him working as a clerk in a grocery store and some talent agent offers him a show. Spending years and years refining your craft and staying focused no matter how bleak things get isn't luck, it's work.

We want to never see our kids fail, it’s ok to make mistakes and that’s how the kids learn. This awesome superstar, Jerry Seinfeld, is my all time hero. Some think his head is shaking, it's not, it's a gesture that reflects humbleness. Here's what Chatgpt say about it: The head movement you’re referring to is often called the “Indian head wobble” or “head bobble,” and it’s a non-verbal form of communication commonly found in Indian culture. This gesture involves a side-to-side tilting of the head in arcs along the coronal plane and can convey a variety of meanings, including yes, no, maybe, okay, or I understand, depending on the context1. It’s a multifaceted gesture that can also serve as an alternative to saying thank you, as a polite introduction, or to represent acknowledgement. In some cases, it can be used in an intentionally vague manner, such as a polite way of declining something without saying no directly1. The head wobble is more prevalent in South India and is a subconscious action that Indians perform naturally2. Additionally, in classical Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam, there are specific head movements called “Shiro Bheda” that convey different emotions and actions as part of the performance34. Understanding this gesture can be quite helpful in communicating effectively in India, as it’s a part of everyday interactions and social etiquette5. It’s interesting to note that many people who spend a significant amount of time in India may find themselves unconsciously adopting this gesture!

Jerry on the brackets in child raising sounds almost exactly like the educational theorist Vygotsky’s theory of “the zone of proximal development.” Keep them challenged within a range where they can’t quite do it alone but can learn to with a little guidance and coaching. Not so they’re totally frustrated and demeaned, but they feel the challenge and thus the joy of meeting it, which prepares them for the next one.
