Jerry West is a personification of the old-school coach/father figure types we used to hear about. They would discipline you, be hard on you, guide, educate, but deep down love their players like a father. The term "guru" comes from that - guru doesn't mean expert; it means the one who enlightens.

@@platano3000x he's not talking about just pure playing impact, he is saying that all around jerry west is the greatest laker because he had a huge impact in so many of the championships the lakers won over the years. He was the coach / general manager for the team during the kareem / magic era. Then when they retired he was talented enough to keep the team relevant during the 90s so that he could convince shaq to sign there and make a draft night trade for kobe bryant and create the next laker's dynasty. Only reason he doesn't have even more rings as an execute for the lakers is because he left as he felt his job wasn't challenging enough, so he went to memphis to try and build a playoff team from nothing.
