Sigh. I recently read about how West struggled with serious depression his whole life due to a horribly abusive childhood and other factors beyond his control. I have zero idea how he was able to work do hard while so depressed, I can't do it, but what a inspiration he is. Along with figure skating and ballet, I really enjoy the NBA. So many fabulous players who are so different, yet they come together and create great teams. They just do so much good. Guys like West and Magic and Bird and Barkley and Shaq and LeBron and Curry and Kobe etc... What an. Inspiration. Thanks Jerry et al.

Like Bruce Lee before him, Kobe is/will be immortalized. His legacy will last forever. His impact to the game of basketball speaks for itself but what will transcend his immense popularity as an athlete/celebrity is the wisdom and philosophies he shared with the world, particularly with the younger generation. His wisdom on basketball, approach to life, work ethic etc. is very similar to the martial arts legend who also died much too soon. Kobe's legacy will be similar. The game will inevitably evolve and the future, newer, younger generations may never truly appreciate his game but people will still be quoting and reciting Kobe's wisdom 100 years from now.

Jerry West is still a Laker in my book and it shows. What a very classy person Jerry is and I have to say thank you for bringing Shaq and Kobe to the Lakers. Thoughts and prayers for Kobe's family and the people who loved him.

Someone needs to routinely check in on Jerry West in the days, weeks and months to come. His heart is obviously shattered and, at 81 years old, it begs the question as to how much more of this he can take. He may not be able to make it through this.

Kobe's death did something to me very profound, I can't really explain it but his death kinda changed everything I knew or thought I knew about life, & the meaning of it all! R.I.P. Kobe! I'm a Knicks fan but I loved ur games in the Garden, even tho u killed us way more than not, lol, u was the G.O.A.T. wit Jordan, u did it, u proved to all of us that u was just as good as MJ!💪✌

Mj was the goat. No body touches his legacy and impact. Kobe was good but dont let his death eclipse his career.

@Real boxing Fan1 the fact that you called mj a bum disqualifies you from any discussion. Mj was a beast. Not only scoring but also defensively.

Jerry West is such a profound and intelligent man. I'm deeply touched by his sentiments on Kobe. I don't think there's anyone in the sports world that was more deeply affected by Kobe's death. So sad. So so sad.

This was *Kobe's* dad and he was *Jerry's* son. So it's hard to see a father burying his son. I could listen to *Jerry* talk for years, this is truly touching😭

Jerry is probably one of the few men in Kobe's life where Kobe broke down, landed on his knees and asked Jerry what to do and how to move forward. You can hear it in his voice, everyone knows the tough minded Kobe, but we all know Jerry has seen the broken Kobe and what is probably hurting him the most was seeing him getting better and better every second, to see that stop in an instant... It's heartbreaking.

I can’t imagine the pain Shaq feels. He has been thru every scenario one could go through with someone. Teammate, best friend, brother, enemy, rivals, opponents , competitors, family, co stars, champions,
