In Panama there is a hospital where they said they accept someone’s VA for a 100% disabled person. I would think someone in Lake Chapala would have info on this. Any ideas?? I beleive for a Veteran with a 100% disability it should be accepted and covered anywhere in the world. Thanks.

If you're talking to somebody outside the United States let's say your medical provider they're gonna tell you that you cannot use Medicare or Medicaid advantage in Mexico. Everybody who has Medicare and Medicaid advantage and live in Mexico as a address in the United States so this way they think you're living in the United States and not in Mexico. Unfortunately they make you lie about your address but that's the game we have to play all of us that live down here.
@craiggallup5706
@craiggallup5706 Жыл бұрын
@@JerryBrownTravels Yes, you need to lie. But suppose you have a big emergency in Mexico and the insurance company pays a massive claim based on their assumption that you're a US resident when you're not. Is that not insurance fraud? It's one thing to lie to US banks so they give you service. It's another thing to lie to a company that may end up paying you big money that would not have done if you had been truthful. Get the difference? People have different comfort levels on these kinds of things but everyone trying it should be aware what they're doing with open eyes.

It is true. If your insurance company under Medicare Advantage part C finds out you are living full time in Mexico and not just visiting, they will probably cancel your policy. That "emergency rule" is assuming you are outside the US visiting Mexico when you had your emergency. Medicare Advantage usually follows the same rules as Medicare.
@geezerpleasers_OG

One of the biggest benefits of having Medicare in the US is the way they control the outrageous costs which providers tried to charge. It's always instructive to read the statements and see the amounts that the providers charge, and the amounts that Medicare approves. For example, I recently had LASIK surgery. The surgeon charged about $3,200, which Medicare approved. However, the Surgical Center charged about $24,000. For doing almost nothing other than putting in some eye drops, and doing a very amateurish job of doing the anesthetic. Medicare approved $3,000. I can't imaging how an uninsured person could have managed to cover that $24,000 bill, unless they were wealthy. Mexico doesn't seem to have the same ultra predatory medical billing practices.

I do greatly appreciate your honesty and I think this works for most people. I retire in June and will simply go with part B. I am not planning on returning to the US to live. Medicare Advantage plans in the USA go State by State, so the plans usually don't pay for out of state work unless perhaps it is emergency care. If you change states, you have to change your plan. If you live in Mexico, you need to return to the USA for benefits to the state where your network is located. Most work would be in the State where your plan is located!!! It seems like it would be wise to allow services to be done in Mexico where the costs would be less for the patient and for the provider - I'm not aware of any allowances unless perhaps they'd pay for emergency care. My advantage plan has very small copays. I had an operation and paid a small copay - only small copays of $20 per appointment with specialists per appointment. There was a copay for the emergency room - my wife says it was less than $100, but I don't remember - my card said $120, but it was more like $80. Most medical professionals prefer regular Medicare direct (not Advantage Plans); however, with that you need a "gap" coverage, since they don't pay 100% - this gives you coverage anywhere and everywhere in the USA. Often, as you age, you may not be able to get private coverage after a certain age in Mexico - one would need to return to the state of coverage for annual physicals, etc., and for any treatments. I am satisfied so far, but hope to learn more.

To make Medicare Advantage work as an expat you need both your social security (if you have a claim going) and your Medicare to have the same US address. That's because it's based on US zipcode. Each US zipcode will have it's own Advantage options. Only some of them will be optimal for what Jerry is talking about. If you are a full time expat and doing this and you tell your Advantage insurance company that you're actually an expat (rather than a tourist) they won't enroll you or they will cancel you once they know. So people be clear this is not full Advantage! This is only international travel insurance for emergencies only. Otherwise worthless outside the U.S. What if the company finds out later that you're really an expat after they've paid a big claim? I don't know. Is that insurance fraud? I don't know. Will they demand their money back? I don't know. Anyway if you do this you can use the full Advantage benefits if you travel back to your stated zip code area. The info in this video was very incomplete. Really, this is best for tourists and snow bird types. You can try it as a full time expat but you have to be clear the insurance companies don't really intend to serve you.

@craiggallup5706
@craiggallup5706 Жыл бұрын
@JerryBrownTravels You do not need a US address to enroll in regular Medicare Parts A and B. Of course you can't use it abroad. You do need a US address to enroll in Medicare Advantage Your address whether US or not must be the same for Social Security and Medicare. If Social Security has you on a US address they will not send out the proof-of life letters that are required if they have you with a foreign address. When you enroll in Advantage using a US address you are claiming to be a US resident not an American living abroad. That's the terms of the deal. If you give them a US address and are actually living abroad YOU ARE LYING. If people are comfortable with that so be it just be aware what's going on.

Garbage collection is included in your property taxes. In Guadalajara we had garbage collection multiple times a week. Garbage cans are not used though, you just put garbage bags out front. In cities houses often have an elevated metal cage at the sidewalk to place garbage in so animals don’t get into it before collection. Garbage collectors ring a bell as they come down the street so it’s often practical to just bring out the garbage directly to the truck. In smaller communities it is not uncommon for everyone to pile up garbage in a central collection location. This may be on the edge of town, but I have also seen piles right in a cute town plaza (including in Ajijic). This does get collected promptly, but still shocking to American senses. In rural areas I have encountered stinky informal/illegal dumps on the side of dirt roads. Conversely, affluent areas in cities are often cleaner and nicer than the US with an inconspicuous army of street sweepers keeping everything spotless.

Hi Jerry! Suostei Lori, I hope you have healed up well and are back to dancing! Talk to an Insurance consultant beforehand and not a broker. Medicare Advantage plans are provided by private companies, they are not part of Medicare they are just approved by Medicare. The private companies/brokers push Medicare Advantage because they get a kickback. They purposely make their coverage confusing. Just do your homework and look into the disadvantages of signing up with a private company before purchasing a Medicare Advantage plan. BTW-Just a heads up. The government is looking into not allowing these private companies to use the term "Medicare" in their name because they are just approved and not affiliated with Medicare. That should tell you something. Bueno suerte!

I'm so happy that Lori is back when I edit the videos and I see your smiling face I get so happy. Sounds like you get happy also. Thanks for your comments.

Jerry you may not be aware of it, but when you tell people that, in order to get coverage, what they should do is, if they reside in Mexico, to just tell the hospital/doctors that they reside in the US, you are aiding and abetting people to commit healthcare fraud. A felony and three possible counts of indictment--- insurance fraud, contractual violation, and making false statements. That is for the person who would do this, if they get found out. And of course for you here, the author of the video, aiding and abetting ... this is not a loophole that you have uncovered, this is an illegal way to get coverage. When you do videos like this you may want to get them cleared by a lawyer. If i was you I would take down this video asap and edit out the part about lying in order to get coverage.

I wish you would speak up or at least let me read your lips. I have hearing loss and it is not worth the work I have to do to hear what you are saying. Sometimes you get closer to the microphone, but most of your videos I have seen are just to much work. I think I unsubscribed for this reason, but this video caught my interest. Your presentations are interesting. But if I can't hear them.....

Medicare advantage is more or less a scam . Google “ Medicare advantage scams” and you will understand Most providers are under investigation. Why? It all looks great on paper until you need authorization for s procedure. Then the wait for approval starts and can last many months Don’t take it from me. Google it
