On the solar efficiency, keep in mind that those acrylic sheets will weather, and that they don't let heat dissipate. Solar panels work best when cold, so you might want to look into a water cooling loop (that can be done with a little 10-watt pump and a bucket, realistically) or something similar

Also acrylic readily absorbs moisture and changes size a surprising amount. And, Zach appears to think all clear plastics are identical. I've never heard of anyone making bulletproof glass out of acrylic. That's polycarbonate, a completely different material. Acrylic will shatter like glass. Poly gums up. Both scratch easily. This seems like not a very wise or well-researched choice. I don't think it does any of the things it's wanted to do, and meanwhile comes with a lot of drawbacks.

It's worth noting that those panels are going to *B A K E* under those plexi panes which will drastically reduce their efficiency and simultaneously raise the temperature of the space below. You may want to consider forcing some air under them to keep the temperature within the realm of reason. It's also worth considering having some sort of constant load on the system because having silicon panels in the sun getting real hot and delivering no power is no good for the life of the panels themselves. For me, I made a powered bird bath pulling 3 amps from 10AM to 8PM and a ventilation fan that runs when the panels are active for a system half the size that powers my shed.

Don't bother man, he's made a toxic pressure cooker if his wiring ever has any hot issues (all of his raceway is PVC gutter), the acrylic is going to weaken in the sun over time and also reduce efficiency, I've seen a few gaps in the paint of the metal so far that are gonna rust out, and people have mentioned all of this. the electrical system he's decided on here wouldn't pass safety checks for an enclosed space (which this is) and his wife is in a wheelchair and won't be able to get out quickly if anything happens.

Those bifacial panels aren't going to be able to take advantage of the reflection the need for the underside to be effective. 2. Those Amazon strut trollies can not carry 2000 lbs safely a reliably. Brand name versions from reputable strut companies like BLine, Powerstrut, Unistrut, etc only have trollies maxing out at 600 lbs. If I'm wrong, I would love to get a link because I have a project at work that I need support 1600 for a short period of time. 3. Those solar modules are going to cook themselves under that acrylic.

There's no reason for the solar panels to be bifacial as the inside of the bunker is not reflecting any light(unless you want to see if there's light outside), that will decrease efficiency compared to a normal solar panel. There's also another factor that will impact efficiency of the solar panel and it's HEAT. Those panels will get hot behind that acrylic sheets, they need airflow to cool down, it's important, they will also heat the inside of the bunker. Idea: you could run water lines underneath and get solar heated water at the same time you cool them down. Great build anyways, it's a good solid mechanism and I like the idea of the acrylic for safety.

If you split the sliding bit in half(Left and right), you could put standing panels that rotate on each side to face the sun. Could even do 4 panels(Two on lifts that slide them higher so they don't block the other two as the sun moves). Then it would slide apart, like parting the red sea, to give access to the elevator. Removes the need to the Acrylic(Which lowers efficiency, and helps them overheat), and you can put them on a solid metal base cover that can be sealed against the weather. Gives you the best of all worlds, and removes the pitfalls.

Even glass takes quite a bit from solar panels max out, so if you actually wanna use bunker 24/7 i recommend revisiting solar panels protection. Outside that, temps also matter, however i dont see it being an issue here - grass doesnt heat up as much as asphalt does + air from the inside the bunker should be able to cool it quite a bit. Only thing, yes, acrylic again, panel itself(top part) being covered with smth on top, might create sort of greenhouse effect. You might want to put some silicone between the bracket that holds the acrylic and the solar panels to avoid water to get in between and possibly generating moss or something that could render the effectiveness of the solar panels or what you guys think?

I would like to see some kind of combination of hydraulic lifting/closing, soft close and rubber number stops to the hatches. This way it feels much more premium and maybe some weather stripping and dust ingress prevention to help keep things more comfortable and tidy.
