The time has come - This project might take awhile to finish. There is a lot of testing and design that needs to happen before we are ready - but I'm glad you've joined us for the ride. The Flo Home X5 is HERE: bit.ly/flohome... HUGE thanks to Flo for sponsoring this video and helping the welding room happen at the shop. It'll be fun to see this project materialize into much cheaper wheelchairs for people who need them.

Thanks for the video. Reminded me of when we took over a company in CT, in an old warehouse, and we had to put in a large compressor for our machines. No place to put it but inside, and we did the insulation, and dry wall, and venting to the outside of the building - and it mostly worked. You were aware of the compressor running, but it was not deafening. People could put on headsets, or ear plugs, and listen to something else (except me) while working. I know that was not the focus of your video - it just brought back memories. The fact that you are doing this kind of great work is a lot more important. You have such a good heart. I've watched many of your videos now. I hope you, your wife, and family have a great holiday season.

Just a small note about the welding room. Be careful of the light bounce off the light coloured walls and potentially causing arc eyes issues, since the light comes from the all sides. I think guys that weld inside of tanks or wagons can confirm. Perhaps if you find the guys having frequent issues, you can address it.

In Hungary I'm only eligible for a rigid frame manual wheelchair every 6 years and I either have to be in education, active employment, or raising a child to be eligible... so I've been sitting in mine for 10 (11?, was eligible for one when I was in Uni). I'm glad such initiatives exist to help people in a similarly bad situation. As for me, I better start taking dating seriously after 15 years, because my chances for that are better than for employment around here...

dont wanna be rude, but at least you can get "A" wheelchair for around 120-150eur without going through insurance, also in Slovakia you are eligible for a new wheelchair through insurance every 5 years, no matter the other factors you stated. Thanks Orban i guess???
@dominic.h.3363
@dominic.h.3363 Жыл бұрын
@@dubi127 I'm sure you mean indoor foldable wheelchairs, even second-hand. I run those to shit in 8 months, while the rigid frame chair I'm sitting in didn't require servicing in two years. Hungary gets these wheelchairs at MSRP, and there is simply no way that you can get an active, rigid frame, manual wheelchair for less than two thousand Euros from neither Ottobock, Meyra, Küschall, or any of the other manufacturers. They just cost this much, nobody is driving these prices up in Hungary after they've left the manufacturer. Orbán has nothing to do with this, both the time frame and conditions with which you are eligible to get a healthcare-funded wheelchair predate Orbán.

Have you considered reversing the position of the wheels of the wheelchair? The larger drive/push wheels forward and the smaller swivel wheels in the rear. That would allow for better ergonomic anatomical propulsion with less strain on the shoulder girdle. Just a thought.

Dude, I love this. Years ago I reached out to you because I built a wheelchair van myself because they had upcharges north of $30k over the base price of the vehicle. This year I purchased a new wheelchair for my son cash because the insurance would approve a new one but it was going to be 6-9 months to get it and his broke. I would love to be involved in testing and brainstorming wheelchairs for youths and you are welcome to use any of the equipment I have or stuff I have already troubleshot. We have a commercial lift in our van as well as commercial style locks that mimic what is used on a school bus. I know many parents around here that would also have great feedback. 7:06 notice that when the installer tries to fit the box he's disturbing the sealant he put around the cable, that's why you add blocking inside the wall first, so the cable is not flopping around and the sealant can do its job. And that earth cable, make a hook at the end so even if the screw comes loose the cable stays in place. We would sleeve it but you guys don't for some reason.

Oh I love this! Having 1 leg that only bends about 10 degrees means that even a "standard" wheelchair is impossible to use comfortably and if you get the leg rests that adjust, well they are just so heavy and only fit on the heavy kind of mass produced chairs. I hope I will be able to put my name down to be a test subject to buy one of your first chairs when you are ready!

A solid vent/vac ducting in there (add to the jig table as a downdraft), there will be quite a plume in a month with all the welding. Keep on keeping on!

I'm sure it's been said already but consider some thickery rubber floor matting under the compressor for additional sound insulation. If you're going to setup for air, consider rigid pipes a bit oversized, say half inch steel lines, and do your pressure regulation as close to your tool for the best airflow possible.

Amazing work! But sad it's needed... Here in Sweden, the municipality are obliged to provide you with what you need to not be limited. That can be for example a wheelchair and home adaptations like ramps and wider doors with automatic openers. An electric wheelchair will cost around $50 a year to have at your disposal, but manual ones and any service or a replacement comes at no extra costs.

One major reason that wheelchairs are so expensive is the FDA, if someone is hurt because something on it fails, you will get sued. One reason the FDA certifies medical equipment. For example, I have a continuous glucose monitor. Any changes to the *software* that goes on the phone for the monitor...it has to go through FDA certification, which can get expensive quickly. I understand the desire to build to help people, but the roadblocks in front of you are perhaps larger than you think. Best of luck on that! I, for one, think you are doing a wonderful job here.
