If I recall correctly, it was Alpay Efe that said, "AI creates images. Humans create art." That pretty much sums it up for me.

I just went to a gallery opening. Alongside works, like mine, that takes months of painting to create, was a piece of AI art printed on canvas, embellished with some brush strokes and varnished... then SOLD because it can sell cheap since it took a day to make. 😭😭 it's insulting it is being shown in a high end gallery alongside traditional art.

People have no sense of right and wrong anymore. That's why the world is in chaos. Looks like its over for low to mid tier independent artists. I don't believe for a second that we can coexist next to each other. They are literally mimicking you. Its a Satanic mockery of god. They wish to destroy mankind and rebuild them in the image of A.I./Binah/Sophia/Saturn/Satan. All the same being that regulates the earth/machine world. You also know her as Hel, which is where they want to deliver our souls.

I very much appreciated this level headed and practical commentary on AI art. It was nice to hear a discussion without all the hysteria attached. Thanks.

Vacationing in Las Vegas about five years ago I stumbled into an art gallery in the Forum Shops in Caesar's Palace. The gallery was store front for one artist. With a large selection of artwork ranging from small jewelry pieces to large paintings, all made, or at least designed by the one Artist. I tried to look up the name of the artist but currently the store no longer exist at that location. Anyway, there were no original paintings gallery, but rather machine created prints. I found this to be very interesting, because they were created on canvas, and the machine was able to create heavy texture. These were not being marketed as inexpensive prints, most in the 5 to 6 digit price range. My reaction was overwhelming that a piece of art that was created by machine would carry that type of value. Being a luxury fine art dealer at that location obviously comes with a large price tag for monthly rent, but I digress. I'm not sure if this qualifies as AI generated artwork, although a machine was involved in the production process. Ultimately, it's up to the consumer if AI generated artwork has value. This is a very interesting subject, I really appreciate the time and effort put forth to produce the content on this channel.

Hullo Mike, I am still trying to understand how AI programs are being developed! I believe that so many developers are stealing from others to train the AI program and this should invalidate the programs or things made from them! I believe that you are ignoring this troubling aspect of this new option. I commend you for taking on this topic, well done.

Personally I love an actual piece of art and not one of these mass produced decor pieces I see in stores. I do get sad when I see people at just donated to thrift store and not appreciated by a family member or friend of the artist. Some of my happiest moments was when my son asked for the art my father, stepfather, and I have made to display in his home instead of just going and buying some mass produced decor.

You did a great job on this topic Mike. It's a tough one, especially with all the unknowns as to what it will be in the future. Your point about proof of work was probably one that helped me the most. So many good points in what you shared. Thank you.

For me, Art is what you have collected into yourself as a person, and then share outward. AI can sometimes make pretty pictures; someday it might even be able to draw hands. In all seriousness, though, "art" is a thing that a conscious entity creates, maybe from pleasure, maybe from pain, maybe from curiosity. I'll even say Elephants and chimpanzees can do it. But AI isn't there. Yet?

I think you did a fantastic job on this video. I think you explained it very very well. I think this fear of AI art is getting way blown out of proportion. If I was working as a graphic artist I might be a little nervous. Other than that I think it will have practically no effect on other artists as you have described so well in this video. As far as someone winning a contest for art, whoever is putting on these contests will obviously need to make some adjustments to their rules and regulations Etc. Most of the AI art I've seen looks like graphic arts, computer-generated art or fantasy style art. And as a second generation working artist that type of Art typically has an extremely low-value. And people that are looking to buy art and pay decent money for it are not looking for that in my experience. However, traditional artist could use something like this to assist them Inspire them sort of like a storyboard for a comic. When a regular person can buy a machine that can paint a painting of Yosemite in the style of Monet with real oil paint that might be a different problem. Let's check back on that in a few decades.

To be fair, my kids would probably hang an AI portrait up in their Roblox house. In fact, I may do this. In general though, I dislike how AI art tools seem to suck out the joy of creation.

I am still concerned about AI art myself since I am still considered a new and upcoming digital artist, not due to the lack of years I have been at it or learning it or producing it, but due to the fact that I haven't yet broken through to actually making it in the field as of yet so this feels likes to me that AI art will limit the opportunities for artist like me to ever make it in the field of digital art. And sometimes I feel like eventually AI will make digital artists irrelevant and obsolete since it can "learn" and produce way quicker than a human can. There is also legislation in the courts right now that is also accusing the AI art bots of stealing copyrighted works of art and including pieces of it in it's supposedly "original art" due to finding artist signatures still intact on the AI art output images that was generated. I have also seen major push back coming from really big and also established artist two of which work for Marvel Entertainment. I have already seen comments on social media platforms of people who say they are glad that AI art is here, because now they don't have to pay overpriced artists for art anymore. That to me is concerning and that to me is very telling of how disconnected people are becoming when it comes to the real value of art and I fear that AI art will cause that disconnect to grow and become larger til artwork as a whole will no longer have any value at all. I really hope I am wrong, but sometimes I feel like I don't have much of a future anymore.

As a art tradional materials user. A.I. art., Much like photos. We can use it to creat compositions . I would like to think, as a artist it will completely replace me.

I think, A.I. is a critical thing in EVERY aspect; like a knife.. BUT: There was a great discussion about photography, when it came out; There were painters that killed themselves, 'cause now there was a MACHINE, that did a "better" job in picturing the world than them. I believe, we will find a way (at least in the art-world) to deal with it

In 2004, a movie starring Will Smith was released to theaters called I, Robot. I thought it was a decent movie and captured the spirit of Isaac Asminov. The AI in the movie was V.I.K.I (Viki). Viki had a female voice. She/It had control of thousands of robots. Sonny was one of the robots. Will Smith's character was speaking to Sonny when he said, "Human beings have dreams. Even dogs have dreams, but not you, you are just a machine. An imitation of life. Can a robot write a symphony? Can a robot turn a... canvas into a beautiful masterpiece? " Sonny replied, "Can you?" J.A. Jance wrote a book called Man Overboard which had an AI called Frigg as one of the characters. Frigg's creator is a psychopathic serial killer. In the end, the killer gets what's coming to him and it is implemented by the AI. There are many other stories or books that I have read that center on AI. At one time, these stories would be classified as Science Fiction. But, not anymore. The reason a program would be called an artificial intelligence, I think, would be that it has the capacity to learn. There is a blog that I follow. I don't remember the name; but, the blog writer's name is Ed. He has talked about AI art and even AI writing. He showed an example of an AI not cooperating with what he wanted it to write. It was interesting.

My biggest issue with AI is the younger generations are already suffering from lack of problem solving skills and a lack imagination. Now they are turning to ai for the initial inspiration. They hear write a report or draw a picture about a leaf and they turn to ai instead of going outside and actually experiencing all the nuisances of a real leaf.

AI art made me want to get back into traditional art, I let digital art scare me away when I was very young. I think AI art will bring back into spotlight the value of art and what it really means to be an artist, not as a threat as long as its regulated, art is already fragmented into different type of artist anyways so new types of creatives doesnt seem a bad thing historically.

The photography vs oil painting explanation doesn't really apply here as photography is a parallel process that is in no way dependent on oil painting. AI art is completely dependent and based on the work that actual human Artists have done and they are not being credited or compensated and have no option to exclude their work from being used. Could be time for Artists to form their own unions and stand up for their rights. It is a generally much undervalued practice and it's time for that to change.

The thing I've noticed about AI art is that it looks fine and cool from a distance. But when you move in to look at the detail, its total crap! With handmade art you get the layering of color and texture and fine details. There is no layering or fine detail in AI art. So AI will not be replacing physical detailed art anytime soon. At 18:36 notice how the Mike avatar has no fingers. LOLOL.

10:00 The USCO is not a judge nor lawmakers. They make suggestions. If you currently want to to that, sure. Just that you should be aware that you could find yourself in a court case that goes up to the supreme court and you would need to finance that yourself while the work you took will probably be defended by someone backed by AI corporations with an army of lawyers trying to set a precedent for them that is positive for them. The suggestions by the USCO won't help you in front of a judge since a judge is further up the totem pole and can just overrule them. The only thing above that is actual lawmakers. But I wouldn't count on that with Microsoft, Google and Adobe playing the AI game now as well. So it's your decision if you want to set the precedent. I wouldn't.

I feel like you may be giving your viewers incorrect information. I sometimes use AI as part of my process, but the finished image has many modifications. It might be some sort of digital collage, or I may have done extensive editing of the original AI image. I'm pretty sure that I can use public domain elements to make an artwork that I then hold the copyright to. So I wouldn't rush out and tell viewers that AI images don't carry copyright. I do, of course, hope I'm adding value with my modifications, but right now I'm just pointing out a potential legal issue. If a person takes an "AI image" to use for their own purposes, they'd be wise to be certain that it's the original AI image they're taking and not something edited/enhanced/refined by a person.

Great video... I agree wholeheartedly with pretty much everything you said... but most of all... I love that you, as an authority on the matter, just blatantly stated outright that AI "art" is NOT ART!! Cuz it's not!! It will never have a place along side a hand made painting by a human who spent years of dedicated effort honing the skills that went into creating it. While I do agree that people/businesses who decide to go with AI are not the type of person to truely appreciate art and the process and thus not ideal clients, BUT... it still takes away work from artists, without whom the business would simply not have access to what they need. Someone, somewhere, is and will lose money, even if it be from a difficult, low paying client... it means artists are downgraded from an essential aspect of a businesses ad campaign, to an option. Now, all of a sudden the artist who previously would have been guaranteed the commission, now has to convince the business of their worth and the value of using their work over AI... now, not only do we have to try to sell our work, we have to sell ourselves as well!
