I grew up in southern NJ. When I was little, if you stayed out after dark, the elders would tell you to get indoors or the Jersey Devil would get you. Awhile ago, I heard that a State Trooper says he saw it.

I lived less than a half a mile from the Jersey Devil house for 12 years and heard those ungodly screams all the time. They were foxes. A fox screams to communicate with other foxes. It's called a vixen scream.

We all love to believe in town legends. I’m a lifelong Jersey resident. I love this shit. We go out to the pine barons every summer to swim. There’s a beautiful man made lake out there. The blue hole. The water it’s tropical looking.

As a Jersey kid in the early 70s we were shown a black and white movie in school. It was called Mother Leeds' 13th Child, made probably in the early 60s, and it scared the living shit out of us. I was terrified of it growing up. As an adult I got a copy of the book Weird NJ. I read the section on the Jersey Devil and about sightings in the late 80s, and how police actually shot at it in 1909. That just made it worse.

Oftentimes people say "why would they all make it up, they have nothing to gain." Well here you go. Idk why they do it but unless it's a demon trying to deceive people or something, you're dealing with people telling lies to a camera. The stranger phenomenon is that people will sit there and make up stories of shooting at monster horses and putting dirt in jars under their beds to protect themselves from bizarre creatures.

Menantico Ponds in the Pine Barrens. There was a cult that worshipped by the water. In 1970 people who went camping there heard this cult. There was sing-song chanting and pounding drums. However speculation that thèse drums were in fact oil barrels. People made claims to witnessing this cult ...by hiding and watching them. This was in 1970 . People in the Vineland high school were making claims that they witnessed a large group of people dressed in robes and wearing masks. There was talk of the "One Hundred Year Ritual " and how it took place in 1871 and that it was to take place again in 1971. In 1971 Mike Newell asked his 2 friends to tie and bound him and push him into the water.. He said he had to die violently so that he could return as a captain to rule over 40 leagues of demons. After his body submerged...his 2 friends were arrested and admitted right away to the killing. After arresting his 2 friends Charles Pangburn of the Millville police had confiscated evidence that he refused to reveal at the inquest. The ìnquest into widespread cultic activity in the area. Somewhere he had information or an idea that a large group of people had wrapped chains around Newell and dumped him overboard, ( so to speak), instead of an isolated incident involving 3 boys. He began interrogating members of a church in Vineland. In years to come my first wife (RIP). would get involved with this group and suffer ritual abuse. The situations i experienced with her were brutal. She had been abused by a bunch of sadisticc bravados. The use of human sacrifice is older than recorded history and the use of such a sacrifice for cause to gain power can be found in the Bog Burials in Northern Ireland. There is also much on the subject in the J.G. Fraziers classic The Golden Bough. The difficulty in the Michael Newell case is that his sacrifice is directly tied into Christian Satanism ( in his belief) that his self sacrifice would engender the protection/aid of Christian demons. His reference of 40 leagues is a Judeo-Christian concept to be found in Colin De Plancey + others...derived from medieval theologians where demons had hierarchies and legions or leagues.....

It's interesting that a tow truck driver, who is also a town mayor, who has probably been called to clean up fatal accidents as well as nonfatal wrecks and breakdowns, drives his truck while being interviewed not wearing a seat belt. Another politician and the "rules for thee, but not for me!" complex. As for the Jersey Devil, I find it the most unbelievable cryptid: what creature evolves to have hooves for feet, but claws on his forelimbs or arms, or for that matter wings but supposed to land with hooves? Throw in bioluminescent eyes on a creature who doesn't live in the deep sea but lives on the surface and flies. It's based on the christian fairytale of Satan clearly.

What is the name of the 13th child? Perhaps what is happening is that he is in a kind of limbo: he was ultimately possessed by Lucifer as a pre-born child. It is not unusual for shapeshifting to occur in the demonic realm so this explains the change from a normal blonde hair boy with blue eyes. Perhaps what people see is his soul - most people who die and have unresolved issues from their life remain in between heaven and hell until proper prayers are offered for the repose of their souls. If what they say is true about his family, birth, and subsequent life, then he needs deliverance and redemption; it wasn't his fault that his mom cursed his existence and cast him into the satanic realm by her anger.

Couple things people should know about Jersey. 1) we have Pork Roll, which is second only to Bacon. 2) we often use the F word as a adjective, verb, and noun. 3) and technically according to an official map from DC comics, Gotham City is in New Jersey. So Batman is a Jersey boy.
