If CCM still had the dynamic diversity it had in the 70s and 80s I'd still be listening to it.

I would add the 90’s as well. That’s when I started getting into it and backtracked from there.

I met Darrell at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in 1978 at a tent sale across the street and chatted with him for a few minutes. He struck me as a very sincere and kind Gentleman, and I bought his album with 'That's Alright' on LP and still have it in great shape! His LP version of 'He Has Overcome' still sends chills down my spine and puts a big smile on my face, but the lyrics to 'Giver Of Life' brought me to my knees in thanksgiving and tears. Thank you Darrell, for your gift of your music.

I got saved in Simi Valley and was taken to Calvary Chapel 3 days later. I was in awe to be with all these brothers and sisters as we worshipped God. The guest speakers that night were Ernie & Debbie Retino. They shared about how they had wanted a baby for years and God granted it. They held up the baby. Does anyone remember that night?
@susiearviso30322 жыл бұрын
By the way, that baby was later involved with their parent's established >> "Psalty the singing songbook family". My kids loved it.

One of my favorites! Played this song for my 'Music Appreciation' class in high school in 1978 in Carlsbad, California. They loved it, better than the other songs presented in class that day. Also saw Gentle Faith and Darrell Mansfield live around that time at Calvary Costa Mesa.

Lead vocal and I believe he wrote this one, was Darrel Mansfield, I opened for him at Faith Chapel San Diego back in the day. We shared a meal and he was talking about being hypoglcemic. The night we played he had a guitarist with him, newely saved Jewish guy named Stash Wagoner, not sure what became of him but he had played for ALL of the big guys, he actually wrote the song "Don't Bogart That Joint, My Friend" from the movie "Easy Rider"

sounds like D.Mansfield now that you mention it .. He is young in this video for me to tell but does favor what he looked like.

Yes, this is Darrell Mansfield singing; and he also wrote the song. The day he wrote the initial draft, he brought it to me to show it. He was honestly emotional as he wrote this, and I think the message meant a great deal to him from the beginning. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met.

Remember this song so well, back in my Calvary Chapel days, we used to go to mike Macintosh’s church back then ,as well as Calvary Costa Mesa, and don absher’s church too, my dad was in the group “ Glory” John Elliott... they played all over San Diego at many Churches in the 70’s ...

I remember this beautiful and haunting song! I was 13 years old when they videotaped this in 1976, in Orange County, California (no I wasn’t there when they recorded it!) The guitar playing was amazing. Was this recorded at CC Costa Mesa’s church, or at the TBN studio (both were in Orange county)?
@davidoney884810 жыл бұрын
Wow! Was this from some sort of early televised church format? What was the program or station? I've always loved the edifying music and entertainment from that period. "Gentle Faith", especially. Great share!

This song probably went over better in intimate coffeehouse environments, compared with Darrell Mansfield's hardcore blues rock tunes from later periods of his life. It's still a very nice folk song, however.

Yes he did many albums after being in Gentle Faith, He formed the Darrell Mansfield band and did many great albums. I think I have been to about 50 Darrell Mansfield concerts, He used to play Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa every month when they had the free Saturday night concerts. Recently he does Blues music as opposed to doing Blues Rock that he used to do
