Korach was a Levite of distinction and a leader of his tribe. Under the guise of championing social justice, he led a rebellion against Moses and Aaron...but his real mutiny was no less than a total denial of the Creator. Korach and his followers were ‘swallowed up by the earth.’ End of story? There is quite literally, so much more here than meets the eye…a world of holiness that was concealed from Korach’s myopic, ego-driven, delusional vision. It’s takes true humility to be able to see something that is truly holy…even if it is right in front of us.
The portion of Korach (Numbers 16 : 1 - 18 : 32) is read on Shabbat: Tammuz 2, 5781/June 12, 2021
