This showed up on my home page years ago. I listened a few times and loved it, but I never was able to find it again. I know very little about music and less about string performances, but after typing in random combinations of quartets and octets and composers, I finally found it again. The conviction and emotion of the performers has never left me, and I could not rest until I rediscovered this masterpiece. This is such an incredible group of musicians and their sound is healing.

A bravura performance, with depth of thought and feeling. The composition is dramatic and witty. Shostakovich's range is stunning; he never fails to astonish. He quotes the Elgar concerto elegantly in the first movement; it is a fine appreciation.

Many of Dsch's works, including this one, have such abrupt changes of mood, tempi, etc., that one wonders what was going on in his mind.

Прекрасное исполнение! Особенно 2-я часть. Предельно экспрессивно, с максимальной отдачей.

Great performance of a great quartet. Shame that the peripetetic cameraman got bored in the second movement and startred wandering around.
