Not that many people know about it in the American audience. If they did, they'd play it more often and folks would know about it. This is lovely.

I listen to this version many times. It is absolutely beautiful and brilliantly shows the first nation's raw emotion and importance to the Hurons Christmas Carol. I do believe that Christ would have made himself seen as a infant, because it proves that when He died on the cross, he died for all of mankind. Thank you with gratitude for posting this bands version and for the musical talent to bring forth their spirit to such a powerful message. ⚘

I was so sad with events since the end December 2019, I stopped playing my accordian. Today I picked up my accordian for the first time and this is what I played and sang. I have words in French and in English, but I would love it if I could find all the words in the original Wendat language, the heart language of the Huron people from which this sung sprung after missionary contact . If anyone has those words and could share them on KZbin - perhaps in a format with lyrics on the screen, that would be a very very wonderful gift, not just for me but for many indigenous people who hold onto their language and still believe in the gentle teachings of of baby Jesus. Mitakuyé oyásin. Chi meegwetch I wan. We are all related. The teachings and Life example of Jesus himself were good. It is the Churches that felt short. My father espoused the view that the best Church was being with Nature itself, communing with all Sacred beings in the walk of life that crossed his path as he quietly wended his way through the forest on horseback . Thirteen years and twenty one days later, I deeply miss that man. He walked in beauty. I love this song. It resonates with beauty.

It was wonderful to sing and drum this song in all the languages tonight as part of Dec 21 2020 Solstice. The drummers were all in different places, far apart, but close in heart. We were able to see each other on the screen. Technology as a tool is useful. It is when technology becomes far more advanced than spirituality that we humans get in trouble. Love is the most powerful force in the universe. I request that anyone seeing this today who truly loves our planet to give love to our Mother Earth through prayer, song, chants, drumming, meditation - whatever feels wholesome and good. I know people are doing prayers and chants all around the world. We feel very connected to Uluru and to Volcanoe at Big Island at this time. When may people pray, meditate, do ceremony together in the spirit of 'kahea' [meaning selfless love in the Hawaiian language] something shifts. May our voices raised in praise and gratitude help with the positive earth shift at this difficult time of CoVid 19. To all of those who are alone in their homes during lock-out, know that you are not alone. Mitakuyé oyásin.

I love this performance and I love the lyrics. I love the well-known John Steckley lyrics to the song too, but it has its problems in suggesting that indigenous spirituality falls under Christianity. This new version honors indigenous ways of spiritual expression in a more equal way, while also celebrating Jesus' birth.

Jean de Beuf wrote this back in the 17th century. He was killed by the Iroquois and is one of the North American martyrs. He is a saint in the Catholic Church.

Lyrics: Jean de Brebeuf, ca. 1643 - Jesous Ahatonhia, Music based on a French Canadian melody, Une jeune pucelle. Original translation By John Steckley, New lyrics by Chris McKhool (SOCAN), Band Arr. Sultans of String, Orch. Arr. Rebecca Pellett Have courage, oh you human beings: Jesus, he has come The spirits in the sky have words to share with everyone They've come to, in exulted voice say Mary's given birth, Rejoice! Jesous ahatonhia, Jesus is born, Jesous ahatonhia Three men of great authority left for the sacred place Tiscient, the star appeared to lead them on their path with grace And stopped not far from where he lay Once found the place, said "Come this way" Jesous ahatonhia, Jesus is born, Jesous ahatonhia With sunflower oil they rubbed his scalp, anointing his head “Tis the will of the spirits that you love us” elders said “And Jesus how we wish to see, all people as one family” Jesous ahatonhia, Jesus is born, Jesous ahatonhia
