Haitian hurt is a real thing! Haitian dad & Jamaican/American mom. From childhood I’ve ALWAYS heard I’m not Haitian, I’m the American in the family & they treated me different. When I speak it they would make fun of me etc. what really helped me overcome is meeting older Haitians in the world they say my creole is perfectly fine and encourage me to big up the culture…For year I wouldnt claim it simply because they were so mean to me but like Jessie said. Haitian is in ur blood & im actually very Haitian 😂 they’ll just never know

I Keep Forgetting by Michael McDonald was released in 1982 and Warren G released Regulate in 1994, that's only 12 years. We didn't call it Yacht Rock back then. Music from performers like Michael McDonald, Hall & Oates, Bobby Cauldwell, Simply Red, Paul Young, and more, were identified as "Blue Eyed Soul". The eighties was called the "MTV Generation" and we lived for music videos so we definitely knew what most of these guys looked like b/c most of these songs were released in that era! There was no genre called yacht rock in the eighties and I feel that name demeans and diminishes their contribution to music. It was just Pop music and we were more diverse back then with our music taste. Being a black teen in the eighties I listened to everything but nowadays most people don't and that is very sad.
@bayareacutiepie18 күн бұрын
Right! Yacht Rock is a recent renaming of the "Easy Listening"/"Pop" era of the late 70's early 80's. Hall and Oates and Kenny Loggins were my favorites.
@princess87618 күн бұрын
So true, I grew up listening to all types of music because of my mom. She was a child of the 70s & 80s. My favorite movie was Footloose 😂 and Grease! I was born in 91, btw lol
@shameitran.greenlmft22818 күн бұрын
I just read your comment after I posted mine and so glad you responded with Blue Eyed Soul as well. I grew up on this music due to my Dad and it was always referenced as Blue Eyed soul which is often different than soft rock. Not all rock ballads, considered Soft Rock, were in the soulful category as Blue Eyed Soul. To me Yacht Rock is similar to the term Twerk…..movement was happening well before some newer age term came along to coin it LATE.
