In this tutorial I’ll show you one of my favourite leftover techniques. I like to call it the Starry Night Polymer Clay Technique, as it was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night Painting. You can use it to make many different shapes and patterns depending on how you manipulate the clay. It’s fun to make and can turn your leftovers into something really beautiful.
(Please note that this technique is completely different to, and is in no way related to the Starry Night Cane that Donna Kato teaches. )

Love this technique. I fully support you vs. internet bullies. Be aware that Donna Kato calls “Starry Night” a somewhat different leftover technique in her book The Art of Polymer Clay Millifiori Techniques. Very easy to independently come up with the name from the appearance; no criticism intended; just want to make sure you know. LOVE your clear and complete tutorials.

i am with you on this one, Sarah M Bruce.......as a matter of fact i never liked any one being bullied........and i think that it was a good technique no matter what the project's name was......

This is absolutely genius! Gorgeous! I've made this using a combination of magenta, gold and purple metallic clay. It was beautiful. And I've used a combination of bright green, peacock and gold. Another beautiful one!!! Then I did it with only pearl on the wrapped in black. It has become one of my favorite looks!!! Thank you for sharing all your wonderful knowledge!!!

Right now, I am obsessing over the "starry brain" variation. I sometimes like to use a Skinner bull's eye cane instead of leftovers. By varying the thickness and color of the wrapping and the pattern of the pieces, you can create endless designs. Love this!

your starry night technique is one of my favorite things to do with leftovers! Van Gogh's Starry Night is my all time favourite painting. i love the new styles youve done here. the squiggly one reminds me of a big brain cane! im definitly going to use the cobble stone style one and the basket weave one. thanks for everything you post!

I know I’m late to the party but I just found you on YT and I absolutely love your tutorials. Very helpful and you’re ever so lovely. Quick question: you flatten your pieces once they’re done , yet your jewellery looks quite thick. Can you tell me what you do to them please? Do you add another back or slab or do you stick them onto something else?? Thank you so much

I tend to take a veneer such as this starry night sheet and will place it onto another sheet of clay as a backing before cutting out my pieces.

Oh I love this one too! What resin do you use to seal. I have not had very good results with most resins. I have been using Varathane glossy. But I love the look of the resin you used.
