In this tutorial I'll show you how to use wax on polymer clay. It's perfect for buffing polymer clay to a high shine. Keep in mind that the waxes in this tutorial are the ones I use. If you use different wax finishes please let me know in the comments.

Hi Samantha..thank you so much for this very informative & helpful video. I use UV resin on my clay, or gloss varnish, but I am very impressed by this wax video. I do have a dremel, so will definitely give it a go!..your work is stunning, I love that bangle!..xx

Hi Samantha, thanks so much for another tutorial. I have really learnt a lot from watching your videos 🙂. Please do you have any ideas for something on a smaller scale as the larger, ‘chunky’ pieces don’t suit me 🙄. Perhaps no more than 1” high that I could wear as a choker? I would be really grateful, thanks ⭐️

I prefer the Renaissance finish, however, I have wondered if it is suitable for pieces that I have used gold leaf, etc? Or do I have to use resins to protect and seal the leaf? Thank you, I so appreciate you sharing your talent with us.
@JessamaTutorials

It depends on the leaf. Most metal leaf will be fine when you seal them with wax, but some will rust if you don't use resin. If the metal leaf has copper in it, then you need to use resin to seal.

This would be great for those who have an allergy to resin. Do you have a preference between the wax and resin?
@JessamaTutorials

I like both of them. Wax is great if you want a shine on a texture or want to elevate a buffed finish on a piece. Resin give a perfect glass like dome on pieces. Each finish has it's own uses.

Jessema, what material should the buffing wheel be made from? Thank you so much for all of the wonderful videos you post. I look forward to each one!

I find that cotton or felt works the best. I sell a buffing wheel here that works really well. www.etsy.com/au/listing/633937925/rotary-tool-buffing-wheel?ga_search_query=buffing&ref=shop_items_search_1&frs=1&crt=1

Thanks for sharing your talent. Why do I have issues with UV resin being sticky?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 3 жыл бұрын
How long do you put it under the UV light? I keep it there for around 15 minutes. Also sometimes giving the resin a little stir helps.

@@JessamaTutorials oh wow! I probably keep it under about 5 minutes or so. Ok, I’ll try stirring it and keeping it under for 15 minutes. Thanks! Fingers crossed that this works for me 😊

Very nice shine there. How long does it really last though under normal wear? What if it gets wet or dirty and needs to be cleaned? Would another buffing with wax be needed? - Heidi

It lasts quite a while once the wax has hardened. If finger prints appear a gentle rub on a piece of cloth with get rid of them.

What speed should I use for buffing with dremel?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 4 жыл бұрын
I use the number 4 speed setting on my dremel 3000. And speed should do. The key is to not press on the piece. The heat from the buffing wheel can burn the clay if you press it to the clay. Rather let it glide over the piece.

I'm a furniture restorer and I always leave wax for 15 minutes before buffing, especially first coat.
