Personally, I've figured out that just having so much stuff keeps me from being inspired and productive. For anyone new to crafting and journal making, try to keep from buying and collecting every little thing you might see others using or things advertised. You'll probably be much more creative having fewer things to contemplate.

I am sometimes amazed at the pretty craft rooms I see. I am sometimes jealous. Then again, my 40 year old bookcase holds paper covered shoeboxes just fine. More money for dies and stamps!

I take as many embellishments as possible out of the packages and put them into bags. I have clear plastic shoeboxes for each colour, so my purple box has all my purple buttons, flowers, ribbon, glitter, sequins etc. I work by colour so that makes it easy to see what I have, instead of a place for buttons and a different place for flowers.

Great video Jess! I had a binder started, long before I even found you! Lol, I would love to escape to my parent’s lake house for a getaway, to make cards with my sister and Mom…. No Wi-Fi, spotty cell service etc….. bringing the binder of ideas, with our supplies and our cooler of food was a wonderful retreat and mental health escape!

I’m with you on most of this. I think some people are more focused on the look of their space than the actual crafting (which is OK for them, just not my thing!) I print out sketches because I’m usually on my iPad watching videos when I craft and don’t want to keep stopping to check measurements. I keep extra die cuts, ephemera, and extra sentiments etc in a binder in pocket pages I had left when I quit doing Project Life. I don’t over-organize them because the serendipity can be helpful. I love a “really good box” so I try to reuse those as dividers instead of buying plastic ones. Still on the fence about the Stack n Sort type trays - that kind of thing is helpful for puzzle sorting too!

great idea for puzzle sorting! Thank you for the idea! I have stack and sort trays but I have found that I sometimes just put extra random stuff in them and then have to clean them out eventually. On the other hand, by putting random stuff in them, I get back to crafting instead of stopping and putting them away. So, that's good.

I’m huge on reduce/re-use/recycle/re-purpose! I get vaccine trays from my work…they stack perfectly, they are clear, they are plastic and can be wiped off, they are super sturdy and they hold a lot! I can store anything in them and they stack perfectly in the 12 by 12 drawers of my shelving. The best thing is….they are free! Ty for all the great tips here! The only comment I have on storage sleeves is that I don’t like using ziplock bags because I don’t like having to open and close them….the storage sleeves just have a nice flap that protects the item but is easier for me to get to. Just a thought. New subbie here ❤️🦋💜

Plastic take out lids (McD’s breakfast) nest together, they’re lightweight, and clear. I put ephemera leftovers in these and stack them. Different color/style in each one. It’s easy to see what’s there to use on other projects.

I can so relate to being able to stock a store with my craft supplies! A couple of things I have tried to increase my crafty time and not get overwhelmed by choices. In addition to my tools, I have an area for my go to products: White and black cardstock - uncut Two sentiment sets My most used shape punches or dies (for me: A2 layering dies, 2 1/4" & 2 1/2" circle punches, banner end punch) A box with 1/4 sheets of assorted coloured cardstock (great for cardfronts or to use for diecutting) A sandwich sized bag with precut shapes in white, and pre-stamped sentiments Black ink (versa fine clair nocturne) Then I can select a printed paper and embellishment pack, a coordinating ink and cardstock, and I'm usually ready to go. Or I can grab a stamp set and a few coordinating ink colours.

These are wonderful ideas Jess, and some I actually use myself! I have all my sketches in a binder, I do repurpose packaging when I can, and you actually gave be a better idea for storing my stamps. I tend to open them by the sticky seam and that makes things a little difficult when trying to put away, and the sticky seam wears out. I will try your method of cutting the tops off. I do have some crafty organizers, like for my paper and stamps, but I also use zip lock bags for things too. Great video, I love the idea of cost effective organization.

Very helpful ideas, Jess! Thank you for sharing. I used to laugh at my grandmother who saved decorative boxes and other sturdy recycled containers to store her ongoing sewing, embroidery and knitting projects. Thankfully, I did learn that my grandmother was actually right! Who needs fancy and expensive containers, when recycling and/or repurposing an item will meet our crafting needs. Like you, I also use plastic zip lock bags for many things. However, for the small items such as sequins, or other types of "bling", I prefer to store them in either small circular screw top containers or small rectangular snap close containers. The containers are then all stored inside an easily accessible clear box. For me, the small plastic bags are too slippery and not as easily accessible. LOVE your idea of binders to store templates, instructions, class project notes, etc... Last time I re-organized my craft studio, I created several binders to hold all the printed materials. Somehow, I ran off the rails and started throwing project sheets into a file cabinet - UGH!!! Time to get back on track and do another total re-organization of my space. Thank you again for sharing your organization tips - - LOTS of GREAT information and ideas!!! :-)

I completely agree with the majority of this. ESP stamp and die organization. Great video! I have a craft room that started as a craft room, then doubled as an office for my ebay business. Changing it to part office was a little chaotic at first, but i prioritized functionality over looks, and got it to where each "station" doubled as a particular crafting area (sewing, sublimation, card making/cricut, laser engraving), but could seamlessly be used as part of my eBay office (sorting, picture taking, listing, packaging/shipping). Now as im phasing it out of ebay and more into a craft space, it has changed again. As you mentioned, its easy to start looking at pinterest boards and thinking i need every new organizational tool. One thing that has helped me is actually figuring out how much/when etc i use a new craft supply or tool before deciding on specialized storage. My laser engraver is simply on a table with a bin underneath with all supplies kinda thrown in there. Its a lot of "big" parts like huge tape roll, bottles, wood scraps, etc. I can find everything without any system. For cardmaking, which i have more supplies for, and use often, i have white drawers with each drawer for a particular category: ink pads, adhesives, specialty cardstock, a drawer for specialty cards (shaker/LED) - which i do very frequently, etc. i also made my own transfer tape dispenser by using double sided mounting tape to stick a paper cutter i already had to the desk, with a paper towel holder i had bought years ago mounted behind the desk, so the towel holder hangs over, holds the roll, and feeds through the paper cutter. . It barely takes up space the way its mounted, and saves time from having to take it out of a drawer, take the paper cutter out, hope the roll doesn't unravel, measure, etc. But thats something i use fairly often. Scraps of cardstock/vinyl/HTV are saved in clear binder inserts (with big pieces in the inserts and small pieces in a label pocket stuck to the front of the insert) sorted by color, and kept right within hand's reach. I find I ALWAYS reach for my scraps for a project before i start a new piece of material, because it's easy to find and organized. I also try to repurpose things i have around the house. A nail polish caddy now holds ink sprays. A makeup holder now holds brushes. I think craft rooms are always evolving, and remembering that its a process over time and to not stress over "making it perfect right now" is key. Thanks for the video! And to whoever read my long comment lol.

I’ve been paper crafting 25 yrs now. First 4-5 yrs I concentrated on craft supplies not organization. The past 5-10 yrs I’ve have spent more time/money on organizing items cuz I have SO much stuff!! I do repurpose items since I dislike buying plastic if possible. I buy a lot of Tim Holtz colorize dies with many pieces so they are kept on magnetic sheets in original pkg. several yrs back I bought 3 TH binders for $15 each. Thought that was too much but splurged anyway. Only TH rubber stamps are stored in those. I do like TH mini ink tins, spray tins, spritz tins. I have others I storage project pieces in so I can craft while I travel. Each person just needs to figure out what would work best for them before spending on “pretty” items. I broke down n bought 12x12 paper storage cube when 50% off. It sure makes it easier to quickly find the colors I need. I just use magazine holders from Dollar Tree to hold 8.5x11 papers. I have shelves for mixed media, Bristol, & watercolor paper pads of various sizes. I rarely use other sized papers. It seems like I need to reorganize my craft room nearly every yr as new products come on the market and I want to try them. I’ve repurposed bookcases, dvd/cd cupboards, etc for my craft room. For 2025 I’m gonna try my best not to buy anything new especially if the tariffs go into effect. I need to use what I have and I have a lot for couple years worth. Good luck all organizing as you grow.

I purchased some time ago, the photo bixes from Michael's & Hobby Lobby when they were on sale. I used the boxes for storage & drawer organizers & the tops for sorting, when I'm done the lids go back on the boxes & stack in a corner or on a shelf. I love page protectors, I have many hobbies (knitting, sewing & crocheting), I put my patterns in the protectors. I also, when watching a tutorial on KZbin, I'll write out the pattern (with my drawings (lol) & into protectors with dividers. I do use magnetic sheets for my alpha, numeric & specialty symbols because they're easier to see instead of jumbled in the bottom of the bag, should the "sticky" be gone & also because I've lost small alpha dies, so mag sheet in a ziplock is great.

We repurposed an over the door shoe rack for tools like punches and supplies like elastic. I labeled each pocket and that has worked for me. I also need ribbon organization. I do not have hundred of rolls but wanted something that would hold at 30 rolls. We picked up a wall tool organizer from Harbor freight, on sale less than 20.00, works great. I also picked up one large and one small screw organizer for 5.00 each for beads and small embellishments. Now i can purchase, on Marketplace a 16 cube for my fabric. I finally bought some storage items after 12+ years, realizing that without better methods/organization my things were hard to find and became a total disaster when I pulled things out to use them. What works for me: Small white plastic baskets from Meijer (for diecuts, cards in process, tools I use daily like glue and scissors); clear fridge bins (for stamp sets, blending brushes/tools, other crafts); small plastic binders from Temu with pockets of 3 different sizes. I use one for sentiments, one for nested dies, one for sets...sturdy and cheap. Embellishments are still a bit of a struggle. I used baggies for years but just had TOO MANY! (My stencils are still in one.) I accomplish so much more and make much less a mess when things have a place. I always wanted to spend my limited money on products for creating - but the small investment in thoughtful organizational tools has been worth it.

Thank you for this video! Several years ago I bought a case of teaching tree rectangular storage containers from Dollar Tree which are lidded 11x8 x2”. They are stackable and perfect for storing cube and mini ink pads, blending brushes, craft tools, stamping blocks or project boxes. I also get a couple papercraft subscription boxes which I also reuse to organize, and use to package gift card sets I’ve made. Because I tend to buy stamps and die sets (also coordinating stencils) I find storing them in plastic storage pouches hold the sets together- I found 9.5x6.75” ones that are inexpensive and fit in bins. I too use zipper bags for my little embellishments like sequins, and store letter size cardstock in sheet protector pockets along with the larger scraps. I keep the packaging labels tucked in so I can remember the brand if I need to reorder. 2 gallon zipper bags are also handy for storing 12x12 paper packs and their scraps. And I do have a binder of your paper busting templates!

I keep all my clear stamp sets and dies in the original packaging - super easy and saves LOTS of money. I put the dies behind the stamps (I usually have to cut the package for the die down just a sliver so it will fit in) and I use a magenetic backing to hold the tiny dies so they don’t get lost when pulling them out - and I can see what’s there. If, like she says, the package starts to tear, I just reinforce with some wide, clear mailing tape - easy peasy! I find I do a lot of what she does - we seem to think very much alike!

Glass yogurt jars are amazing. The yogurt will change your life; the containers are great for keeping die cuts as you're creating. You can also use vitamin and pill jars for longer storage ideas. Tape the die cut on top of the jar and store tiny die cuts in them.

After Christmas, I will probably (sem) sort through my bookmarks etc and print out the ones I know I am interested in using. My computer is slowly getting overloaded and if I can get some things to notebooks, I will sacrifice a LOT of bookmarks. I am sure that it will make life much easier. Thank you for your ideas.

I bought metal tool boxes recently that I have all my frequently used tools and supplies. The sit on my main work desk on either side of my work space for easier access. They used to be in Rubbermaid plastic bin drawers under my desk. They were getting annoying and one broke which is why I changed it up. Because the main toolbox is big enough I have my printer on top (it used to be downstairs).

I find that coil binding paper templates and instructions into a booklet takes less space than a binder with sleeves and does a good job of keeping them in useable condition.

I thought putting my dies on magnetic sheets in pockets in notebooks would of been the best for me.. yeah, but boy are they HEAVY. THOUGHT I could put on my shelf units. Too much material. My sewing room has gone into a craft room. 😮 my stamps have in shoebox plastic style, and cut cardboard for dividers labeled. But I have far tooooo much. Thought I needed everything when starting out. My cricut I have out in my kitchen on the other table out there. New year, have to Organize!!! Organize. Merry Christmas to you and your family and to all on your channel. Good luck to all getting situated. Lol

I have all my dies stuck on magnetic sheets openly displayed in my craft room (on the sides of the book case, desk and door). I can see them all and I love this arrangement. I think they look pretty and I use dies virtually every time I craft.

I agree about the binder. My new goal is to keep a binder of templates as you have shown, but I also want to keep one for ideas I specifically want to do in the near future but I might not be ready to work on yet.

Hello, I do love my zip lock bags as well. They come in very handy. The pockets you use for your 8.8 by 11 paper would come in handy for me. The plastic tares too easily. Take care.

I reorg when the mess is messing with my creativity. I’m a chaotic prolific artist. There is a certain level of chaos that is too much. My craft room is also my work office so I have to keep it somewhat presentable. While most of my coworkers understand it’s also an art studio I do need to minimize distractions for them.

I have a ton of different size, shape and colour beads I sorted into old pill bottles (actually mostly just tube shaped bottles). The problem with that is then I'll often have too many for one size bottle or only 3 which i then need to put in a whole bottle. Also, round storage containers waste space. I'm planning on transferring them all to ziplock bags.

I fell into the repackaging trap, and now have to store all my packaging supplies. I need to have a clear out but still have the guilt about spending hard earned money and just throwing things out. I craft for charity and donate 95% of what I make so can’t justify binning things when they could make money for a charity. I whole heartedly buy into what you’ve said! Wish I’d had the sense to do this originally. I am intrigued to see your craft room, I store my stamps in bins but want them out of the way and you mentioned drawers. Would love to see that . I have ikea drawers I need to organise then I can get stuff off the floor

Bass pro occasionally has their branded tackle boxes on sale for about $5, so via my husband, I have a little collection of them. I keep all my mini inks in them. Great for embellishments too.

I actually made an idea book, copying Kristina Werner - I cut letter size copy paper in half long ways and punched 3 holes in the long edge and use ring binders to hold the book together. I also cut pattern paper that I laminated for the covers and hang the whole thing on a command hook right by my desk. I sketch the front of the card I am considering making and put any other ideas I have about color, embellishment, construction, etc., on the page AND I reference the content creator, the date of the video, and the name of the video. I keep a playlist on my iPad I call Cards to CASE, and save those videos there, too, and then if I forget or am confused or want to be re-inspired, I can actually find that video again! Once my book gets too thick I clean out the pages I made or am not going to make and cut and punch more copy paper. It’s cheap, easy and so useful to me! I also move the video out of the playlist once I make the card it inspired so that stays manageable, too. I generally save the videos I have made from to a completed playlist I store by year, and it’s interesting to see how my taste changes, how the trends change, etc., when I look back. This was helpful, TFS.

I’m with you on lots of things but not the stamp packaging. The bags that come with stamp sets are far too flimsy, they split open even if you don’t use the sticky flap. Also I like to add in the matching dies; some don’t have enough room. I buy cheap bags that are nice and thick. And if you don’t have a way to close the bag you can lose small dies or stamps if they lose their stick. I buy 9x12 3 mil zip bags for cardstock. I just cut off the zipper.

This comment made me think of something….are you saying to scrape it over the stencil to make a design of the stencil? That’s cool! But I was thinking…if you did the same but instead of using card stock, do it on a silicone mat….then you get the shapes after they dry….like making your own embellishments! 😃👍🏻❤

I use six 11x14 picture frames behind my room door to hold all my blending brushes. Lou Collins did a video. I have decorative wall nail polish holder that hold all my inks, sprays and glitter stuff. I have also used kitchen cabinets to make a 8x10x8 wall unit for storage with a 4x6 foot craft table as part of the wall unit. Inside my cabinets I have clear fridge/freezer tray storage to hold my stamps and dies. I have all my tools and papers in Michaels 13x13 3 drawer units that sit on my craft table within arms length for filming. I use nuts and bolts carpenter boxes for bibs and bobs and 4x6 picture holders for ephemera. All behind cupboard doors or in drawers under the craft table. I have a rolling spice rack that holds my sewing machine and everything I use for my current project in 4x6 picture holders and one scrap basket. Nothing ever sits on my craft table except my glass matt, everything has a place and a place for everything. I work from home in the same room that I craft/sew/quilt and clients who come in my space and never feel smothered by chaos. Many have commented how inviting my space is for the 8x10 room that it is. I waited 34 years for a room of my own, so I have made the most of the space..

I fell into the mistake of buying too much stuff. In case it's helpful, if I was starting again I'd avoid buying supplies that are too specific to only one thing (eg stamps/stickers/papers/sentiments that are only for a young girl's birthday). I'd buy small packs of mixed items I can use in different ways

@ Hi, that is great advice. I think my crafting will be mostly for myself and what I would like to try make. That makes things easy haha no birthdays, babies, weddings or anniversary sentiments needed haha I really want to try journals and all the bits and bobs that can go in, or with that process. I wouldn’t ever be confident enough to give someone something like a homemade card etc. I also have a tendency to want everything at once and I’m gonna take my time with that and mostly recycle as much as I can x Let the hoarding begin 🤣 Merry Christmas x
