What is your problem when shirring?

@@JessDangDIY the linen doesn’t bunch up/shirr - it just stays flat or only shirrs very little. Is this because the tension is too high? I tried to google tips on shirring linen but no luck :( thanks for replying ❤️

@@stupidgeek123 You have to put the tension setting on your sewing machine to maximum (mine reaches from 0-9, I usually use 7 or 8 for shirring). Also put the stitch length on maximum. Dont stretch the fabric while sewing, just keep it somewhat flat.

Sorry to hear that. But if the sleeve didn't stay up, I think the length of the elastic you used is quite longer. You can cut it shorter. If the sleeve is too baggy, you can make the width of the rectangle that made the sleeve shorter.

@@JessDangDIY thanks for the tips. I think the issue is also attaching the sleeve just as the arm pit. I have narrow shoulders so I am going to try making straps and attaching the sleeve to those as well as your suggestions. Just need to find the motivation to unpick it all lol.

I used a normal elastic thread. But I think it's quite a thin one. And it works for any sewing machines.

No, it can apply for all sizes as it's just the connected part between the sleeve and the main bodice of the dress. The more you make at the part, the closer the sleeve will be to your body

Ah, you can tight the shirring (back and front) together to finish it. Doing backward stitch won't help much and sometimes it breaks the elastic thread.
